Oh well
I suppose he'll just have to go back to dreaming about sports cars. I have to pity anyone whose artistic achievement can be summed up by an ad executive as: "Jaguar today exudes a real sense of passion and excitement and Sting captures this very well in his music." That, and not being allowed to say anything in the commercial for fear of sounding stupid.

Wasabi?
I'm not big on BSD (yet), but hearing about Wasabi reminded me of this.

Re:Realserver or player?Agreed.. how will using RealServer make it possible for me to view this stuff? Especially with that nice little pop-up window telling me I can't view it?
It's the codec, silly.. not the transport.
.. and how is fate destined I would post a story about said site above (which of course was rejected because I suq) but another Apple/QuickTime story still makes me able to prove my point? More karma involved than simply /.'s... :)(and an OBSlashRant: why the fsck does ExTrans display eat me as <b>eat me</b>? Is ExTrans fscked?)

I Am Canadian
Reading through the comments I am finding ignorance.
Canada has over 30 Million people now, not 25 million. Believe it or not, but Canada is extremely progressive and ahead in the telecommunications game. And how much money was IcraveTV making before?? Anything it makes under the new pay-schedule is a bonus!
Canadians do NOT eat blubber... and the beaver is a proud and noble animal. =)
If you haven't seen the cool Molson Canadian ad on TV (no idea where it is broadcast to).. you can view it online here :
http://www.adcritic.com/c ontent/molson-canadian-i-am.html
It attempts to dissuade a lot of the myths that Americans have about Canadians... in a very tongue-in-cheek manner.
I hope you get it. [smirk]

Location Checking...
It could be as simple as using credit card info. Presumably, the 9 bucks (that's 6 bucks US, BTW) would be payed by Credit Card. When credit card orders go through, I know that some customer info is listed. I know that name is one of them, but I'm not sure about adress. I'm sure that if they use a Canadian bank for the credit card stuff they can check if the parent account for the card is of local origin (I mean, if I go out of country, the machines know to convert the money, right?). So that's how it could be done.
On another note, to those who seem to be quoting that excellent "I Am Rant" beer commercial, if you haven't seen it yet, go visit: http://www.adcritic.com/cont ent/edge-102-i-am-not.html (this is at least as funny!). Sorry to people who can't play QuickTime. =( -
Stradling the border
Quick question for all you legal eagle types out there - how does the DCMA apply to CANADA? I thought my country was sort of out of the jurisdiction of any US institutions. I AM Canadian, after all, so can a US court has a say in what I do up here?
Last time I looked, the DCMA was a US law, not an International law. Fuck 'em.
(BTW, the link needs QuickTime. Sorry) -
the Orkin commercial.
Here's another place, probably faster, where you can find the, err... "roach clip".

Re:What advertisers don't get
I don't think that behavior model is entirely true - many people do watch TV ads, or perhaps are not watching closey but are at least influenced by them... In fact TV ads are one of the more interesting parts of TV to me (now that I've discontinued cable and can only see TV infrequently at someone else's house). Luckly there is AdCritic to provide me with enough on-demand advertising that I need not have any reason for resuming my cable subscription.
On the other side, I think tracking clickthroughs alone is a little misleading in its own way. There are times when I see an interesting banner ad and visit the site later, but not trough the banner. Then there are sites that I like a lot, and to help support those sites I'll open up the banner ad in a seperate window just to help the site out - I shut down the page without really looking at it.

AdCritic.com?
Did y'all know that you can download, review, and rate these commercials at http://www.adcritic.com? They've got the major commercials from the Super Bowl available in QuickTime format.

Re:where?!?!?!
adcritic.com Yes, it uses Quicktime, so you'll have to use Windows. But from the signature list at the Quicktime for Linux petition site, it might be coming out for Linux pretty soon hopefully : )
Oh, and for the email address it's going to ask you, use fake@emailaddress.com -

relive the magic
I dont know which was my favorite, but did anyone else notice how many lame
.com commercials there were? Personally I'm getting sick of the corporate internet. However, if you want to relive all the great commercials, check out www.adcritic.com, where you can view commercials in Quicktime and rate them. Not just for the superbowl but always. -
Re:Commercials
Here it is; the page also contains links to two other ads in the same campaign.
