Re:Those that say ICANN is not corrupt...It is my logical belief (through reasoned findings) that you, along with whatever drunken beings created you, are all fucking idiots.
That's not to say that you're not probably right about ICANN being corrupt, but Christ man, you make yourself sound like you're on about the same intellectual level as our good buddy Alex Chiu.

Re:Enlightenment link is wrong
"Enlightenment is here [enlightenment.org], not here [enlightenment.com]." (links not copied. Look at the parent to understand)
No, I believe you're wrong. They were actually trying to link to Alex Chiu's site, not the Enlightenment Window Manager. They still got the wrong link, but you don't have the right one either. -
we can take these guys seriously, can't we?
Are mars society a proper respected society? no doubt they probably are, and I'm the only one who's never heard of them. right?
Actually I have come across their website before, but that was through a link from this guy's website, so you know how seriously I would take *that* ;-) -
Re:Biblical precidence
So 111/106 isn't accurate enough for you? How accurate do you want it to be?
Incidentally, the website I mentioned (ldolphin.org) never claims to be the inerrant truth of the universe. It is not pseudoscientific bilge, and if anything is proven to be wrong, it won't disprove Christianity. These are theories, by scientists. If you discredit a scientist because he is Christian, then you are the irrational one. Because they don't subscribe to the myth of evolution (a theory growing weaker and weaker by "conventional" science), doesn't make it crack-pot science on the scale of Alex Chiu.
I invite you to disprove anything on ldolphin.org. I won't be offended. It's science, the search for truth. We all want to know the truth. Because Christian scientists have a different angle on the world, doesn't make them wrong, or non-scientists.
I'm sorry you were offended by my post. -

Re:Wow - actual discussion
Hey, Slashdot had that interview with the magic magnet dude, Alex Chiu. And didn't it say in that story, "Tell us who you want an interview with"? Well I want to see a Slashdot interview with Bill Gates. Who's with me???!!?!

ho humI have one thing to say:
UN-altered REPRODUCTION and DISSEMINATION of this IMPORTANT Information is ENCOURAGED, ESPECIALLY to COMPUTER BULLETIN BOARDS.
Seriously, he's mildly amusing, but as whack jobs go, Chiu is strictly third-rate. I'm sure he wouldn't get any play if he wasn't basically offering free stuff to people who put banners on their site. Until something more interesting comes along, I'll stick with the classics, like McElwaine and Ludwig Plutonium.

Question about warranty terms
Assuming I were to live forever, why should I want to?
Every 20 years, DisneyCo lobbies the world's major powers for yet another 20-year retroactive extension on its monopolies under copyright law. Assuming you live longer than DisneyCo, you'll finally get to see copyrights expire into the public domain.
Anyway, on to my question:
Say I'm buying rings for aging patients in the hospital. Would you guarantee that they wouldn't die in the next 90 days with the rings on? Would you guarantee that you'd have enough money in the bank to cover all the refund checks?

Are You Racist?
On your site you state: "I am not a Taiwanese. I am Chinese, and I wish China will one day take Taiwan back, peacefully or by force, at any cost! A Taiwanese who does not consider himself to be Chinese does not deserve to become immortal."
Do you wish for Taiwanese citizens to be exterminated? How do you explain your views if 1) you were born in the U.S. and not China (are you not an American?), and 2) China repeatedly abuses and tortures its citizenry, including Chinese forced abortions of Tibetan women? Wouldn't Chinese deserve not to become immortal? -

in addition to his obvious ignorance I would remind slashdotters that neither Einstein, not Tesla, nor any other great minds of the past seeked glory and recognition. They did it for the sake of the people, or at least just for the heck of it (read: science) but never seeked a reward. He does.
His purposes and attitudes seem noble, at least donating money to a charity seems like a good idea. But then, again, if he does that clearly for-profit, FDA will stop that right there. In fact, he is expecting that any moment. Yes, I know, it might not be hurting anyone physically, but it is a scam anyway and that is something that the we have to deal with.
As far as his ignorance... oh, this is truly bad. Here he compares the way our body works to a transistor (resembles a recent movie, except there we were duracell batteries, right?). I do not know anything about how a body works, but it is apparent that he has no clue about how transistors work, that's for sure. He also seems to be missing the point that the energy can't be drawn (and amplified) out of the thin air. Tesla himself probably would have turned over in his grave if he heard something like that.
I would not even touch his perception of God ("God is the mathematical formula which runs our universe"). errr... hideous herecy, along with toddler level of comprehension put into scientific words!
!!!Last, but not least, every one of us has seen spammers and MLM promoters, right? Right. What do they use? Pop-ups that advertize you to buy a product - he's got it! Paid ads - he's got it! TESTIMONIALS OF SOMEBODY'S GREAT EXPERIENCE AND MIRACULOUS CURE IN CAPITAL LETTERS? - he's got that too! popups that open up when onUnload() happens? - He's got that as well. It doesn't take too much time to see that he is making money just off this website, just running it and getting money off advertizers with very nicely disguised ads (just look at the source code of his pages). And now, sice he is getting slashdotted, he is getting even more, we are helping him quite a bit.
Now, since I established that this is a rather typical scam, and this guy exhibits remarkable ignorance, and takes pride in it, makes money in the very detestable ways that slashdotters hate, and shamelessly considers and announces himself the next best thing in the Universe (or at the very least the next Einstein)... since all this is true... why in the world would Roblimo even think about interviewing the guy. Yes, it might be entertaining to see the gross stupidity and laugh at it, but did we really degrade far enough to interview a guy just to laugh at stupidity? I think this is something for those scandalous magazines that you can buy at any grocery store, not for slashdot!
Over and out. Very mad too.

Immortal Antichrist?
Alex Chiu, you're obviously very interested in religion, especially things that are written in the Bible or Torah (from your site: http://alexchiu.com/philosophy/beastsign.htm). In fact, on that page, you claim that people who do not believe in the Bible are "Antichrists".
So let me ask you this: are you comfortable selling me some of your rings and giving me, an Antichrist, immortality? How does your God feel about helping me, an Antichrist, live forever? Or will your rings not work on an Antichrist? (I didn't see that exception in your claims.) -
Questions.Well I went to order one of these things, and was met at the top with the cheerful request to agree:
Yes, I would like to try the Eternal Life Device(s). I understand that the inventor, Alex Chiu, guarantees me that if I am not satisfied with the Eternal Life Device for any reason, I am allowed to get a full refund within 90 days.[boldness added]
Now given that the only reason I can imagine for someone not being satisfied with their package of Eternal Life is if it doesn't work (ie. they still die), your guarantee beckons the questions:
- Would I be correct in assuming that you allow third-parties (spouses/families) to ask for a refund within 90 days of the deceased person's order?
- And if you do, what percent of your orders result in a refund within 90 days for the specific reason of death? (ie. not including other "not satisfied for any reason" s).
- Does this figure include refunds for causes of death unrelated to mortality?
~ -
Question.
Which immortality device (Immortality Rings or Immortality Foot Braces) has proved more effective? How do you judge their effectiveness, given that most people probably use both? How do you know that one of them doesn't in fact not contribute at all? Some statistics would be appreciated.

Website design, popups, and open ring design
I've noticed that your site seems to lack some design elements that might make it seem more attractive and less like a "scam" as many have assumed. Do you have any plans for redoing the site design?
I've also noticed that you have an amazing number of advertisments and popups, that add to the "scam" feel that hits the user as they first enter the site. Do you have any plans to change the way you do advertising on the webiste?
And lastly, I've found a page that lists how people can make their own rings. Do you think that this open way of letting people make their own rings may somehow affect your sales? -
Who's Next For Slashdot?
I would really like to see someone from Slashdot interview the founder of the eternal life device, Alex Chiu about 2001. I'm sure if Leonard F. Wheat can find all sorts of hidden metaphors in anagrams and the shape of the Discovery's engines, just imagine what Alex Chiu can find!
-
Re:Invasion of The Mind SnatchersYou think THAT'S funny, you should follow his link. He's even better at being a crackpot than Alex Chiu.
Then again, crackpottery is relative, as MOBE2001 demonstrates by calling every other spacetime physicist one.

But seriously folks ...
banner ads are easily skipable - the blinking ones are instantly ignored by my eyes, like most regular internet users. After a few months on the web, most people have come to ignore the approximately 460x60 size ads that are everywhere. However the most annoying feature of a webpage is the onclose(? I'm not a coder) tags that automatically open the SAME website in another window as soon as you close the first one. If only I were fast in my window closing abilities I wouldn't have a permanent window to Alex Chiu's eternal life device open on my desktop.

I sure hope these new phones don't interfere with my Eternal Life Ring. I think the cold-fusion battery in the phone my just emit enough bogons...

Re:Major Censorship!I believe that this French judge should be praised for promoting progress in security technology. The fact that they are asking Yahoo to do the impossible is irrelevant. When has challenging the impossible not led to progress? There was a time in history when people thought it was impossible for peanut butter and jelly to co-exist in the same jar. People once believed that man could not run faster than the speed of light, or turn doo-doo into ingots of diamond studded, gold-plated pure platinum.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of those rare individuals who challenge the impossible, we now know that we can do it. Alex Chiu knows this, and Alex Chiu is a shining example of the American capitalist motto, YOU CAN DO IT!©

I don't know what they teach you in those dens of homosexual debauchery known as British boarding schools, but here in the free world, A.K.A. US to the motherfuckin' A, they teach us three things:

- You have the right to shoot anyone who says otherwise

Re:What innovation?
That is a real concern for millions of people (sufferers and families), and virtually no "facts" are known about it. What you would call "bogus," reports that have not gone through the wonderfully-quick process that is anything WHO, are useful.
I don't believe that the WHO certifies all reports on <insert-chronic-illness-here>. Their concern is epidemic and pandemic diseases, as well as regional general health issues. However, the process of peer review is important.Too many people latch onto an idea that is the "alternative" to the mainstream, and try to justify its veracity solely on that. The doctors who rejected this or that report out of hand are "arrogant," "bureaucratic," "incompetent," or are suppressing alternative info because of a hidden agenda. In contrast, the "alternative medicine" is believed mainly because it gives erroneous hope:
"Sure, 9 out of 10 doctors say your cancer is inoperable, but the Tarot says differently. Rub this crystal on your body, meditate 3 times a day, and say the mantra: 'one-borna-everi-minoot!' That'll be $5000."
There are good doctors and bad doctors, just like there are good and bad programmers, politicians, waiters, et cetera. Bad doctors can have the same good intentions as good doctors, but are acting on erroneous assumptions, and which side of the "alternative" line they fall on is no indication of good or bad. It's entirely possible that in some cases, magnetic insoles, vegetarianism, taoist meditation, Christian prayer, or the latest pseudo-science may be a valid treatment for cancer. It's also possible that chemotherapy or radiation treatment do more harm than good.
This is why medical journals require peer review and repeatable results, and as such can be trusted not to have info that is blatantly false. Does this mean that medical study X, which hasn't been submitted for review, whose results could not be duplicated, or which flies in the face of current knowledge is not true? No, but it isn't any more true than something I made up off the top of my head to sell magnetic rings.
Because web hosting is so cheap and so indiscriminate, the potential for quackery is great. The signal of sane, scientific medical information is easily washed out by the noise of "$5 Viagra" and unproven cures. Even if there were a certifying body, a "TrustE" of the medical world allowing qualifying sites to use their logo, this could be easily spoofed by scam sites. Only a TLD allows the kind of control necessary to ensure proper review.
And does this mean you can't look OUTSIDE of the
.health domain for uncertified info? No. All it means is info under .health is accurate, in the opinion of the WHO, or whatever certifying body.Thank you.

This is good, but...We're not enough people to make a difference! Talk to your friends, get them pumped about the kind of tricks the music industry is trying to play with their wallets, do whatever it takes to get them to care, and then tell them how they can contact their representatives, too. And get them to pass it on.
And above all, SEND REAL MAIL! This point is repeated in every article about contacting our reps, but it's worth repeating again...
REAL MAIL IS THE BEST WAY TO SHOW THEM YOU CARE
If 1/10th of us write a letter, and we get our girlfriends/boyfriends to write letters, and they get one friend of theirs to write a letter, that's worth more than every one of us sending 10 emails from our various email accounts.

This is NOT a waste of timeNo, despite the billion uses for Linux, how compact and trimmed you can get it, etc etc, QNX still has a very valuable place in the computer world.
It's NOT LINUX!!
It's good to have choice. That's why we have a bazillion window managers and theming skinnable apps that give you a billion ways to dump core. >:(
But aside from the bland "choice is good" mantra, QNX has definite good qualities of its own - it's very lightweight, very fast, has a decent GUI system going for it (despite not having DND, which I deem a semi-serious flaw, but one that could be tackled), and it could teach other people a thing or two yet with the way it does stuff. And even if it doesn't even have anything to teach, it's still a potentially very useful OS to run on one's computer. Time will tell. Time and apps.
Don't dump on it (yet).

Re:what gimp really needs...is CYMK color handling. Where's 2.0 already??
Professional artists (not me, but my colleague) are going to stick to platforms that support CYMK, because that's how they ship their stuff to the service bureau. Hell, we don't even need it in GIMP if adobe would port photoshop to the linus. (and why port or switch to linus at all if win2k works just fine for it? because win2k still isn't stable like the linus.)

Re: aargghhh - communism in theory...this is my new pet peeve...
the problem with saying "in theory, communism works" is that you're resting your theory on false/unproven assumptions - that the greedy, power-hungry parts of human nature can be redirected into the positive, communal, selfless acts required by communism. for life. and for the life of your children.
if you actually factor people into communism, it doesn't work even in theory. it's almost like saying, "star trek warp drive works
... in theory" - sure, if you just listen to the foofy explanations on the tv show, it makes sense. but when you factor real life back into the equation.... -
it seems to me...that nanotech by default would be open-source.. since you can always examine the little guys running around doing their jobs. sort of like building electronic circuitry, or an automobile, it's hard to avoid the real-world openness of what you're constructing.
how would you construct a closed-source nanotech device? could you do so by making it self-destruct upon contact with the atmosphere (not very useful)? but wouldn't any copy-protection built into your nanotech devices suffer from the problem of being able to be disassembled by other nanotech devices, or by the same machinery that built them?
... -
Who needs cloningBut why would you need clones, when you can live forever!!!??? This guy has it all figured out. And while you're there, you can find out how the whole universe works too (Hint: it's all megs).

Tag Team with Alex Chiu?
This guy should team up with my favorite scientist, Alex Chiu. Not only has Alex invented cheap, simple immortality with his Eternal Life Device, but he is also doing important work with Teleportation and Space Travel. With the added power of Hydrinos(tm), just imagine the possibilities.
With Mills and Chiu working together, maybe humanity could finally solve the awesome mysteries of Nature's Harmonic Simultaneous 4-Day Time Cube .
