At this point, I don't think this story will create any useful publicity. Apart from the fact that most people, by now, are either going to see it anyways, turned off by episodes 1 & 2, or just don't care about the series, there's enough stories about people living outside a theater to remind everyone that it's coming.
Consistent pasting? I'd like to get any pasting, but every time I want to use my computer for 5 minutes linux insists on doing a full filesystem check on my 120GB hard drive during the boot process. Maybe if we donate a few modern hard drives to kernel developers this might change?
Effective immediately, the open-source threat level is being raised to penguin-beak yellow as we receive reports that enemies of linux may be planning an attack. Be aware of anything suspicious and report it to the authorities until we determine that the threat has passed.
FUnnily enough, most slashdot comments insist that linux is just better or corporations are just evil... you can't complain when Sun tries the same thing.

No.
I'm seeing a world where people can do something cool (or anything, really) without being called evil capitalist pigs.
I'm also seeing a world where I don't read slashdot because of comments like this; it doesn't take much imagination, since I live in it.
Here's your chance to get on the slashdot frontpage! Submit something about how stores... no, the government... wait, the Illuminati, that's it, are tracking you, and using their telekinesis powers to open doors in front of you. They're only doing it in stores now, so it can be explained away with technology, but it's only a matter of time before they have total control over us.
That would be about as accurate as this story, so you should have no trouble getting it accepted.
Reading websites is also a pull method - if you have the same access patterns, RSS traffic is much more efficient. Frequent automated checks increase the load, but you don't really need those unless you're running a news ticker...
I just want to use my own computer. Making things harder for manufacturers who provide binary drivers or would provide them if they were supported better prevents this.
As someone who has written a KDE application, I don't think the existence of user interface guidelines is as important as the fact that the KDE libraries make it easiest to let them do all the boring work... incidentally causing all applications to follow the same guidelines since they aren't reimplementing the file save dialog box.
User interface guidelines are for those who reimplement the user interface in every application.
Ah yes, I remember those little plastic circles that were impossible to dig out of the caps... they would be great for reducing the number of winners, but maybe Pepsi actually doesn't want that?
Don't we all hate Microsoft because it would rather kill the competition than make good software? Why do Linux distros not need competition to keep them looking for improvements?
I've heard this a lot recently, but didn't know what all the fuss was about until I read a comparison of Athlon 64 motherboards a few days ago -- I wasn't even looking closely, but when I compared information with other sources, there were several factual mistakes in virtually every paragraph! (for example, the roundup claimed that the motherboard I now have only supports single-sided DIMMs in two of the slots, but the manual clearly states that you can use a double-sided DIMM in one of those slots at a time)

Yeah sure, may seem obvious to some but a date with no year can mean many things.
Slashdot: eliminating context since... uh... I'll get back to you on that one.

In short: Just what, exactly, is going on here?
You: ignorant, posting random theories you came up with while high on slashdot.
Them: lots of experience, actually doing this.
That's what's going on here.

What's even better is the history of the technology they use...

It's already been done, intentionally, in a light airplane. The pilot died, the plane was mostly destroyed, the office building suffered minor damage.
The average car is a bit heavier than a light airplane, but when you're flying you have to minimize the weight.

So, it's kind of like an hourly slashdotting. Speaking of which....
Or maybe they just want to talk to someone about it? There is more to communication that paranoid rants and calls to boycott RFID and Microsoft.
I just want to use my own computer. Making things harder for manufacturers who provide binary drivers or would provide them if they were supported better prevents this.
You won... $50 of free advertising for your application!
Yeah, and let's encode movies in SVG while we're at it! Down with DivX!
Yeah, everyone should know that the law and the courts decide what's right and wrong... just like in your favourite DMCA case.
or do they only want to take the project's output without contributing
Well, you're essentially begging them to do that, so don't complain.

Don't blame slashdot, the story was copied straight from the movie's website without any modifications.
Linksys routers are good solid stuff like Windows 95 is a good solid enterprise mainframe operating system, in my 2.5 years of experience.
No no no no no.

I won't believe anything I read on THG again.
