    It's periodically sending your GPS location to the government who's building a huge database of people's movements, to correlate against all sorts of crimes ranging from terrorist attacks and murders to petty theft and jaywalking.

    You may think you're joking, but that's no joke. I read yesterday about the Homeland Security having developped a GPS plugin for NASA's WorldWind http://alteviltech.com/blog/2006/03/31/department- of-homeland-security-can-track-you-by-youre-phone/

    The article discusses NASA WorldWind but several interesting links are missing. Amongst them: Punt, a WW fork. Heck, you can also see Microsoft Virtual Earth data in NASA WorldWind itself. Even Mars 3D in WW. (I stop here, if this interests you, read slashgeo.org ;-))

    I don't know if Stellarium counts as "software for space exploration", but it's worthed. Celestia too.

    Mars will be included with the World Wind 1.3.4 release (Beta version should be out in a few weeks).

    But here is a post about the imagery that is currently "ready" there will also be a full color imagery dataset by release time.

    There is also an add-on to view Venus imagery in World Wind. Though that is not yet with a 3D texture yet.

    Don't get me wrong.. GE is a nice image viewer, but you can't really expand it's boundries that far.

    I was able to snag it before the /. hit. (I hope it's all there, I can't play it right now because it want's a codec the firewall won't let me download) I would prefer more mirrors instead of all getting it from there :}
