Re:TLDR: MacBook getting better or not?
Honestly, if they'd just iterated the 2015 MacBook Pro, I'd have been happy. I've used the 2016 and 2017 versions at various times, and I'm not a fan.
My 2015 MBP was in the shop for a couple weeks (needed a trackpad/keyboard cable replaced, and for some reason the local Apple shop was having trouble getting it), so I had to use one of the 2016 models for that duration. After two weeks I thought the keyboard sucked just as much as I did on day one. And having to use a dongle for just about everything drove me nuts. I have to connect my laptop to displays and devices regularly - tell me, what good was it to shave a fraction of a millimeter off while simultaneously adding the requirement of carrying one or more dongles around?
Hopefully this 2015 Mac runs well for many years... but I'm not sure what I'll get when the time comes to replace it. I'm reasonably certain it won't be an Apple laptop, assuming they're anything like the current models - and if Ive, Cook, and Co. are still running things, those future laptops will probably still put style over functionality - they may very well have no ports at all!
The answer is simple: You just get one of the multiport USB-C "docks" for around $50-60, and get EVERY Port you need back with ONE cable. And they are cheap enough you can get one for your workplace, and one for home; so you aren't plugging/unplugging 3 to 5 cables twice a workday.
Here's one of SEVERAL configurations:
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter...
And then, you STILL have multiple ports left!
Think about it: a 2016/2017 15" MacBook Pro, with 4 USB-C/TB3 Ports can be "broken out" into up to FIFTY-TWO Legacy Ports SIMULTANEOUSLY(!!!!) And, unlike your 2010 MacBook Pro, you can CHANGE that Mix of Ports at ANY TIME YOUR NEEDS CHANGE!!!
Anyone who thinks that isn't a FANTASTIC leap forward, simply isn't thinking straight.

Re:TLDR: MacBook getting better or not?
Now? You can't repair *anything* on the machine. Everything is soldered. Not only that, you can't *plug* anything into the machine either unless you buy expensive dongles. So now, for example, everybody needs to maintain a stock of dongles in every meeting room because nobody makes TVs and projectors with USB-C/TB3 connectors.
Shut the FUCK up, whiner!
USB-C/TB3 is the hands-down BEST thing that EVER happened to Laptops, PERIOD!
USB-C -> USB-A $2.50 (or less!) PASSIVE Adapter. Here's a 3-pack for $5:
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter...
You don't have to carry "piles of expensive dongles". Just get this Dock (one of SEVERAL to choose from). This one sports 3 USB 3.0 Ports, Gigabit Ethernet, SD/MicroSD/TF Card Reader,4K HDMI, USB-C (for Charging only), and Audio I/O for the princely sum of $60.
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter...
And if you need VGA for some old-school Projectors/Displays, that's available, too. One less USB-A Port than above, and no Audio I/O, but at $50, it has all the rest of the goodies, and HDMI and VGA:
https://www.amazon.com/Multi-p...
And here's a REALLY nice Display Adapter, with HDMI, DVI, VGA and even DisplayPort for $36:
https://www.amazon.com/Multipo...
Or, if you don't need DisplayPort, but you'd like the flexibility of HDMI, DVI, VGA plus the added convenience of a USB 3.0 Port, then here you go for $30:
https://www.amazon.com/Type-Ad...
Or, if you only need VGA once in awhile, you can simply use this $13 USB-C/VGA adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/CableCr...
And you STILL have more Ports left on your MacBook Pro 15"!

Re:Razer keyboards are not high-end
Keyboards, like any other hobby, can get a bit extreme if you listen to all of the people that use it as a hobby.
Before dropping $100+ on a keyboard because [long spec list that really doesn't matter] I went ahead and bought a $50 keyboard on Amazon. I love it. But it's "Blue Style" not "official" blue switches. It doesn't have a detachable USB cable. I'm sure I'll be outed as a hethen by the
/r/MechanicalKeyboard group.Same with the safety razor group. A $12 handle and $0.1 blades are fine. You don't need $100 in accessories to shave.

Re:Numbers Stations
Check out Spycraft by Robert Wallace, H. Keith Melton and Henry R. Schlesinger it is well sourced and quite informative.
Long story short, yes this use of number stations has been confirmed by multiple sources, including operators and "users". It is a well known, and confirmed, fact that a Cuban spyring operating out of Florida (IIRC) was controlled by a number station.

Watch Andreas Antonopoulos
If you really want to understand this topic, start by watching Andreas Antonopoulos, a computer scientist who specializes in Data Communications and Distributed Systems. If you care to go further, he has 2 books Mastering Bitcoin (very technical), and The Internet of Money (for the layman).
I would recommend starting with Blockchain vs. Bitcoin in front of Consultants. You can watch his videos on x2 speed because he enunciates well.
Don't believe anything in the Slashdot comments. On every article about Bitcoin / Crypto, so many comments are factually inaccurate, even when they sound intelligent, plausible, and are modded +5. In the words of Andreas, "(Bitcoin) isn't what it appears to be at first glance."
Finally, Princeton has a series of free lectures here: Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies

Re:Not everyone can afford bluetooth headphones
Amazon, of course. In fact since I looked a couple of weeks ago and found the $13 pair (over the ear) I see they now have a _LOT_ of even less expensive ones. See:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=s...
Slightly more for over the ear:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=s...
Pricing seems to fluctuate as I saw some of these for $13 a couple of weeks ago.
For sleeping I got these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...
which initially I didn't like due to a charging problem but that resolved through full discharge and recharge cycles and now they're doing well for me. My bed partner snores and these help block her noise.
For while I'm working I use these as they have very good noise canceling both active and passive:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...
I work in a noisy environment (farm and on-farm butcher shop) so these help to protect my hearing while also letting me listen to podcasts and music while I work.

It will probably be more "dropping your valuable item on your front porch in view of everyone - by Amazon"
Solution: Put a lock box on your porch, bolted to the concrete.
I have had one for years. The delivery guys always use it.
It only works for the first delivery of the day, but I have never had a stolen package.
I also have a locking mailbox. The mailperson can put mail in, but I use a key to get it out.

Twitter... Meh...
Twitter was a company that was born by accident. The technology was a side project that took off on its own. The four founders were more interested in playing musical chair with the CEO spot. The revenue model came years after burning through VC funding. One founder pulled a Steve Jobs by quoting Steve Jobs, listening to the music that Steve Jobs liked, dressing up in a Steve Jobs uniform (same clothes, simple style), and staging a Steve Jobs comeback after starting another company. Mark Zuckerburg called Twitter a clown car that fell into a gold mine.

Re:It went off so flawlessly
Ed Tice exulted:
That I had to double-check that I was watching a live stream and not a CGI of what they expected to happen.
My wife and I watched the SpaceX live stream of the launch just minutes ago. The liftoff was so "nominal" - to use Launch Control's colorless term - it brought tears to my eyes.
And the simultaneous safe landing of the two external boosters (both of which have flown to space and returned previously!) made us both cry tears of joy and pride in this landmark achievment.
As a teenager, I was privileged to watch Apollo 11 lift off for our moon from the vantage of the front yard of our rental house in Satellite Beach. For me, this maiden flight of the Falcon Heavy was an event that resonated very strongly with that one: an aspirational and technological peak moment in the history of our species. The main difference here and now (aside from 48.5 years or so) is that, while the promise of Kennedy's lunar landing initiative was squandered by the petty vindictiveness of Richard Nixon's personality, the successful launch of the Falcon Heavy brings the quest that the Apollo program initiated back to life again - and puts us back, at long last, on the path toward eventual human habitation of the entire Sol system.
The true Space Age starts now

Actually, it's even better! It's "Factory Uncloked" Which means Unclocked. or Uncloaked. or it has a klingon cloaking device.
Not sure which. -
Re:That's not surprising really
Not exactly sure I'd liken this to 60% off a laptop battery. Apple is still making a ton of money off these battery replacements. It's just that the amount they were making has dropped from obscene to huge.
Laptop batteries are typically 30-50 Watt-hours. The iPhone 6 and earlier use about 1500 mAh batteries at 3.8 V, which is 5.7 Watt-hours. By comparison a Samsung Galaxy S5 battery is nearly twice the size - 2800 mAh (10.78 Wh) but costs just $9. I suppose you could say the extra $20 pays for the labor to do the battery swap, if you believe Apple Store workers make $600 an hour. -

Lost City of the Monkey God
I'm reading "Lost City of the Monkey God" by Douglas Preston right now. It's been a highly entertaining first-hand account of (what I think was) the first use of LIDAR for archaeology in the jungles of Central America, and the ground exploration that followed. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested in this story.

Re:Windows: The Gates Project
I'd watch that movie!
The best take on this I've ever read was James Hogan's The Two Faces of Tomorrow. Before giving control over everything important to an AI, humans want to make sure they can shut it down if they have to. So the put it in a space station, give it total control over everything, deliberately make it hostile to us, then send in a special forces team to shut it down.
The book has an ending I did not see coming, and would make a great movie come to think of it.

Before you call yourself a JavaScript programmer, read the first volume of "You Don't Know JS" (free ebook). Most people who use a JavaScript framework know only enough JavaScript, say, "Hello, World," to make the framework work but not enough to understand and solve problems when the framework doesn't behave.
