How'd Mozilla get involved here?
A new office under Milestone 15?? I'm baffled!

I won't support them
Why should i beta test for them (and support them) when they can't support me and my linux computer? Those of you who fold into this are suckers to the system.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) -GAIM: MicroBerto -
There will come a time..I feel that human intelligence is going to get to a point where, if we want to become anymore intelligent and learn faster, we will need a better language. Something that linguists agree is fast, easy, and not redundant (this a huge problem for most languages, especially English). It also must be able to typed very well, of course.
Of course it's not going to happen, languages don't just come up out of nowhere and stick. But it will get to the point where English is just too damn slow.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) -GAIM: MicroBerto -
pathetic oppression.Japan is pathetic. I'd like to face the judge that made this decision in the ring.
They also have bigger fish to fry than this.
Ooh, maybe now they'll do something about all the spam that comes from there! How many emails do i see that come from
.ad.jp and never stop until procmail gets involved?

frustrationI motion for a permanent, global slashdot ban on articles regarding this. Enough was enough 2 articles ago...
slashdot is beginning to sound like a 5 year old on a long car trip: "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"...

Re:The two-second turnover time.
Here's my personal problem:
If one calls and asks for Michael Roberto, I have to answer and say yes, because there's a good possibility that its Ohio State (the school I am going to this fall), or one of the other schools that I rejected. Then I *have* to hear the telemarkter, at which i take the necessary process if it's not OSU.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
Define irony...
While reading this, a telemarketer called. I told her to take me off their list.

The globe isn't the only thing MS has backwards..In other news, MS has also confessed to the MicroBerto Reporting Service that Windows NT revolves the wrong way as well.
"The operating system is known to only install properly off of CD-ROMs that rotate counter-clockwise. All other installs end up with an insecure system that crashes if turned on."
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
Further insight..As I was reading the review, I was thinking of how society has been increasing all of the bad things (stress, sickness, depression, crime), yet delaying some of the better things in life.
Trying to make adolescents abstain/wait from sex.
Eat slower and eat less
Prolong sickness/death even when 'its over'
more work = less sleep (i love sleep)
Wait longer in line
And of course, these pressures of society often cause rebellion, such as more obesity, teenage sex/pregnancy, smoking, and others. This inversion is causing more problems than began with.
My personal belief is that as more and more parents are not taking care of their child as they should be (working mothers, one-parent families, day-care, etc.), children are being weened earlier, and grow complexes and fixations.
The World War II era is the time where many women went to work, and stayed there after the war's end. They also bred many baby[-boomers]. This is now the generation that is causing such psychotic behavior, because of fixations that many did not get over. There's a huge anal-retentive generation there, and it's still being passed on down. Now everyone is going crazy...
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
The economics of it baffle me...Think about the economics of the situation.
Most of the time, countries support exports, and often like to put restrictions on imports to protect the stuff they have at home.
In this case, Japan is being rather oppressive and is restricting exports, hurting a company within their domain! There is no justification for this at an economic level. Whenever foreign money wants to buy your stuff, it's favorable to your country and corporations.
I believe you've all dissected the "weapons" BS as well. Truly pathetic from Japan on all levels. A country that actively and purposely hurts its citizens. I normally don't see that.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
oohhhhhhh
Yes, many slashdotters wonder who owns and what you can do to Xena.

Re:Taco, Don't be ChurlishValid point. The first few IPO's were very cool, but then talking about each one got stupid.
Speaking of the Devil, many tech stocks, including iSky have cancelled their IPO's because of the downswing in the market. (The link above points to the iSky article that slashdot just did today/last night. Their site is here.)
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
Re:The reason why it *IS* relevent to slashdot..Good points. However, I am certain that this downswing is bogus idiot trife because there are companies out there whoopin major ass and their stocks are still tumbling. Look at AMD. Their stock was going up as it deserved (they made more money than ANYONE expected, including themselves).. but now they're heading on down as well. You know that this company is rocking, its just the idiot control of the market. It will either recycle itself, or correct itself.
What i'm saying is that although even strong stocks are going down, they won't stay that way. I'm not scared.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
Re:Stock market news not SlashWorthy(tm)
Hold up! How to Molest Chickens for Fun IS worthy of slashdot!
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
Re:Suddenly common sense rules...As far as the stocks are concerned though, I'm not worried. Easy come, easy go for me. However, seeing that the market is now controlled by idiots, they'll see low prices and say "OOH! ME BUY ME BUY!", the market goes back up.
Prices go up, idiots get scared and sell.
Repeat cycle.
If you wanna win, you just gotta time the idiot cycle right. I messed up, but I know that its going to come back up when the idiots see the low prices and invest in everything and their mother.

Re:"Not Quake" ?
On a serious note, I don't think Johnny C. can keep away from the FPS games. He's just as addicted to them as we are! I betcha the next game will be strikingly similar to Quake, but maybe just in a totally different setting.

Re:Why Gaming is importantYour third point is what Diablo II seems to be all about. I read the review at firingsquard and although the graphics aren't going to be that much better than the older one, the game is going to sell like crazy anyway because its a GREAT game.
I personally won't buy it if there's no linux version, but it will be a great game that demonstrates that you don't need cutting-edge graphics to sell a game. It's just gotta be addictively fun and reach out to the beast inside of all of us.

"no security hole exists"
Heh, maybe "no security hole exists" in this certain case, but Frontpage is riddled with insecurity like a block of swiss cheese.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
iSky seems insecure
This is another company that was going to IPO and then decided not to because of recent market downswings. I also think that maybe they didn't IPO for some other shaky reasons in their economic strategies.

Re:Cancer vs. AIDS research
I guarantee that you DO know someone with HIV/AIDS. It's just dormant and won't show for 5 or more years. That's a huge problem with it... granted. People still going out and having sex, not knowing what they're spreading.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
Cancer vs. AIDS researchDid you know that for every dollar of govenment funding that Cancer Reasearch gets from the US Govenment, AIDS gets $20?
That's quite a disgrace, seeing that AIDS is so much more preventable.

Re:Ugh.On the contrary, I see this specific case as good news. I run the AbuseDesk of the ISP I work for, and see how weak the fight against spam is without good legislation.
Congressmen don't care about E-Mail, they don't even read theirs. Of course they won't care about spam.
However...
What is one thing that every congressman owns? Yes, a cell phone.
If the see how abusive the spamming can be, perhaps this will help them pass legislation concerning all E-mail spam, and in a SENSIBLE manner. Yes, I'm probably too optomistic, but I see it as a worthwhile shot that this can get the ball rolling faster.

How Technology Can Enslave UsI was hoping to see more notes from Steve Talbott's speech, all it says is this:
'How Technology Can Enslave Us' - Steve Talbott, NetFutures (who provided a pleasant rendition of the 'technology is almost always bad' argument, but it was a little bit over-blown, and contained little that was new)

need i continue? We win. It's already over. I'd love napster to win because its a useful tool (I don't care about man-made laws that protect those who can't get with the times), but all in all, I don't care either way. I'm still going to be able to download whatever I want, whenever I want. I'm going to go out for my victory lap now.
Mike Roberto (roberto@soul.apk.net) - AOL IM: MicroBerto -
The grim reality of it all...
Unfortunately, with names like "Ogg Vorbis And Xiphophorus", this isn't going anywhere. Sad, isn't it? Not only that, but there's been other very valid arguments of the stronghold of mp3 as well.

Re:top 10 pickup lines on calculusgirls.com10. Hey. Can I take your derivative?
Well, seeing that the derivative makes a polynomial become of less degree, this makes the girl look thinner... as in when you see her in 3-B vision (3 Beer vision)... or X beers depending on how manly you are (like me!)
9. What's your integral?
This makes the girl look bigger, sloppier (+c), and uglier... kinda like when you wake up the next morning with her and she has no make-up on and comes back from college with a freshman 15

Re:recursive slashdot effectMathematically? Yes. Realistically? No. Here's why:
Ok, 1/n people will click the link to go the other site. Assuming it's not slashdotted (this is the first problem), then 1/n people at that site will click the slashdot link, and come here! As this goes on for a while and n approaches infinite, the series of the sume from 1 to infinity of (1/n) diverges, going off to infinity. An infinite amount of hits would obviously cause some supreme slashdotting
:)However, the thing is that the other site is going to be slashdotted already, so no one can come back to slashdot, AND the people who go to that site from slashdot probably won't come back to slashdot in such a manner, seeing that they don't need to for the time being, and they won't cause the recursion. Also, the other sites do not cause such web chaos as slashdot does. And we don't have an infinite amount of n's, but we're getting there!
What do you think? And i dunno, what's worse than infinite recursion? Kernel panic?
:P

freshmeat.net has a SEARCH!
Have these people ever tried searching for things, or do they just like to have others hand it to him? Go to freshmeat.net. Right at the top is a search. There are tons of streaming mp3 tools, and servers are out there. Search accordingly, find it, use it, read about it. It's not that hard. Ask slashdot should be more complex than THAT

Why Manic-Depression is so bad....Manic-Depression is obviously a HORRIBLE illness in that such a high percentage of its patients commit suicide and succeed.
It would seem like always-depressed people would commit more suicides, but they don't because they often lack the will or power.
Manic depressants, however, have more of a reason to commit suicide:
First, they know what its like to feel REALLY good, so when they are down, it REALLY sucks.
Second off, when they're coming up or coming down, they have the energy and willpower to actually plan their suicide rather than just feel sorry for themselves.
Third, in their manic states, they might do something like blow off their entire life savings on some crazy risk! When they come back down and realize how crazy they went, they have more of a reason to end their lives.
Fourth, within due time, the gap between the depression and manic parts gets wider and wider. Think of a crazy rollercoaster going up and down. It gets BAD in this case, though.
Fifth, it is harder to treat a manic depressant because when they get better, they don't think they need the medicine, stop taking it, get worse. Repeat cycle.
Sixth, its one of those illnesses that's just tough as nails to treat.
Please add more to the list... and realize how significant of a problem this is. And someone else can take the torch besides the suicide problems, that's what I focused on. There are many bad things with family life and jobs and everything else as well. See ya

Re:This ain't no Boston Tea Party, guys
One way that I see it is that they can't win. You can't stop the free exchange of information in this day and age. It can't happen. No matter how deep you go, there is an underground channel that goes even deeper. We will get what we want. I hope it doesn't have to happen, but personally, I'm not worried either way. We're in control. We can watch their movies anywhere we want.

Re:death?Hey Sgt! I can easily see some of those huge companies making some troublemakers "disappear".
As far as porting wakeup to win32.. why? Win95/98 have Task Scheduler, just make sure that mp3's are associated to a player, set task scheduler to run an mp3 file in the morning, and it should all go. That's what i did in windows, works fine.
For those who don't know what's going on, wakeup is my easy to use mp3 alarm program so you don't have to use at or cron anymore
