Re:Oh well...
What a strange world you live in, where the games industry agreed with Jack Thompson. As I recall the main reaction was to spoof him in a number of games and increase the violence levels with ever more realistic graphics.
Yeah that never happened of course, but maybe you spend part of your time in an alternate reality. The only reason he stopped being an issue, was because he was tromped all over by the media. And was eventually disbarred by lying before the courts.
As for Sarkeesian, did you know she isn't actually against violence in games?
You mean besides her pushing of this stuff? Having a bit of a problem telling the difference between her and Thompson yet? Or would you prefer the part where she's pushing ideologies to ban video games? Just like Thompson did. And at least Thompson had the testicular fortitude to defend his viewpoints against multiple people. Something she never does, and when questioned on it starts whining that it's misogyny.
FYI: Those video games had been in development for years before she started this stuff.
Game developers pushed back against anti-feminists because the recognised Tropes vs. Women for what it is - a series of well made arguments and suggestions for changes that are often easy to make and invariably improve games.
No, they didn't. In fact most developers didn't want anything to do with her. EA even went as far as to state that she had nothing to do with the development of their game(s). But those series are full of so many factual errors you could write an essay on that alone. Never mind that their sources are so poor, or don't exist at all -- or present a complete opposite of the viewpoint she's pushing. But keep in mind that she was also right there, whining at the UN and complaining that "harassment is people demanding proof" and the internet should be censored to protect her.

Re:Wow, and just think...
You should ask the Obama administration. Just a reminder that the IRS targeted "tea party groups." Multiple people within the IRS resigned, there are multiple cases before the courts. The inspector general stated that the IRS was indeed targeting those right-wing groups and protecting democrat groups. Oh, and the IRS and Obama administration are still stonewalling on the reasoning or even documents as to why they were targeting those groups.
Yes, the IRS targeted Tea Party groups - for more scrutiny in approving their tax-exempt status (as groups "operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare" - does that sound like the Tea Party?). But no group was denied tax exempt status, much less suffer any other serious harm.

Re:Continuing vulnerability of the Microsoft windo
As the Bangladeshi hack revealed, SWIFT isn't vulnerable. What was hacked was the underlying Windows interface that allowed remote transactions and disabling of the Oracle database confirmation messages. The hack consisted of altering two bytes in a running Windows process.
That's a question of semantics, my friend. If an application runs on Windows and the underlying Windows is indeed vulnerable, then the application on top is vulnerable too. Maybe something really important like large money transfers shouldn't be running on Windows, but I can't say I'm surprised. I've got an IT support job that occasionally requires me to get with customer IT departments and a significant amount of our customers are still Windows only shops and they honestly don't know how to work with anything else.
-
Continuing vulnerability of the Microsoft windows
"The messaging network in a Nov. 2 letter seen by Reuters warned banks of the escalating threat to their systems, according to the SWIFT letter. The attacks and new hacking tactics underscore the continuing vulnerability of the SWIFT messaging network"
As the Bangladeshi hack revealed, SWIFT isn't vulnerable. What was hacked was the underlying Windows interface that allowed remote transactions and disabling of the Oracle database confirmation messages. The hack consisted of altering two bytes in a running Windows process. -
Vulnerabilities in bank's connection to the SWIFT
"some bank officials had knowingly created vulnerabilities in the bank's connection to the SWIFT system, used for global transactions."
I thought the vulnerabilities were introduced by emailing them malware that reprogrammed their Windows desktops to perform unauthrorzed transactions and prevented the Oracle database from printing out an acknowlegment of the transactions. The hack consisted of altering two bytes in a running Windows process. -
Re:Twitter, aka @Jack, doesn't care about hate spe
problems generated by a very small subset
Ahaha if only that were true! Racism would be as small of a problem as colorblind people believe it is. Klansmen, neo-nazis, and racist old men from the South are actually the smallest part of the problem, the jutting tip of the iceberg. They're easy to defeat because they acknowledge what they're doing and can be easily marginalized. The majority of white people (in the US) are in fact responsible for the majority of racism through unconscious efforts such as the colorblindness you're advocating, and because they don't even know they're doing it and will invariably deny their involvement when confronted with the damage they've been doing, it's an incredibly hard problem to solve.
you can and will create white on black racism with that. If you continually make someone the bad guy without any reasonable provocation you'll just wind up with a self-fulfilling prophecy.
And here we are having a discussion on race centered around the protection of white feelings. A discussion where you categorically absolve virtually all white people of any responsibility by simply not recognizing the reality of their unconscious racism. This is colorblindness in full force, a safe space for white people who want to avoid confronting race issues, composed of an impenetrable turtle-shell of denial with egalitarian posters on the inside for reassurance. It's not "actively racist" and blinds adherents to the very "passive" racism it perpetuates, which is good enough to keep it going forever I guess?
What's worse is when you think that racism perpetrated by the very few justifies racism as a whole. An attitude that is in and of itself racist.
No, I'm saying that it's not racist to point out that in the US, most white people have a racism problem because they in fact do. Just as surely as white South Africans during apartheid did, except that present-day Americans' problem is subtle and mostly unconscious.
Recognition of this fact is colorblindness kryptonite, and most of Manveer's posts which have been called racist are only identified as such for highlighting this fact in some way or mocking its denial (such as making fun of the idea that anti-white racism is just as common and damaging as any other form of racism in the US). He's not helping by being dismissive and mocking instead of trying to have a meaningful and informative debate, but to call it racism only serves to deny the reality of the problem and perpetuate it.

Re:No Evidence?
Another good rebuttal to the NYT article: http://archive.is/X6KxW

Re:The Streisand Effect has been triggered
For the first point, I haven't claimed anyone was a pedophile, just that there was some weird and suspicious stuff going on that people were going to spend a long time looking into. For the second, yes, I do think it's pretty weird when a child protection charity uses a pedo symbol in their logo. It's not just the pizza places, there are like 4 separate places on the same block, which is why it came to attention.
You... seem to be assuming that everyone thinks there's clear proof of pedos here. This is not the case.
Also, that NYT article was quite bad. More details can be found here: http://archive.is/X6KxW

Re:And on that subject
TFA goes into some detail about how it was discovered that every claim made was false.
Which article? Provide a link, please, because the article for this story doesn't talk about Pizzagate.
I want to see the article that shows every claim made was false. Though I'm sure the mainstream would never spin a story, ignore facts, or otherwise, right? It's only those fake news sites like Breitbart that we have to worry about, right?
A little something for you to ponder while you're digging up that article.

Re:Michael Flynn Jr believes it
Literally none of the story is true.
So you bought that fake news narrative without checking?
Not only did the whole thing start as an online hoax by pranksters
How do you know that? Some things are pranks, some things are conspiracy theories (that may even have some truth behind them).
but the images in the supposed Instagram are from people who "liked" the pizza restaurant's page
Here's where you are dead wrong. Some of the images are from associations, but some very creepy ones involving children were found directly on the owner's Instagram account, "jimmycomet", including the young girl taped to the ping pong table with a male standing suggestively behind her. Ha ha, very funny?
None of the "FBI charts of code words" are from the FBI.
But the symbols are.
None of the information that the #pizzagate morons point to is true. It is 100% false.
Maybe if you weren't reading "fake news" and did some checking, you wouldn't be saying this. I haven't even gotten into the kind of art that Tony Podesta (John Podesta's brother) had at his home, which is documented by mainstream sources.
Here is a comprehensive, detailed rundown with citations on the history of this hoax and whether a single fact or assertion about pizzagate has been proven true or is possible to be proven true:
http://www.snopes.com/pizzagat...
And here's an archive version of the summary Snopes is "debunking". It also has citations, with archives of pages that have since been made private, deleted, or changed.

Re:But bringing an assault rifle???
Good, point, but unfortunately, you're Mashiki. So, based on previous actions the link is:
This coming from the person who can't click on a link. Refuses evidence when presented. Doesn't believe when a person actually posts something that contradicts the narrative, and believes that actual quotes are fake. I'll bet you still believe that Anita Sarkeesian was threatened by Gamergate too. FYI, this was the threat. The only thing missing is 300 confirmed kills and a navy seal.
You keep enjoying that echo chamber.

Re:Moral Lecturing by Hipster Douchebags
First, there are only two genders. Male. Female. Sorry, but it's true. No amount of Tumblr post-modernist claptrap will ever change that.
Second, yes, SRS is blatantly a downvote / harassment group. Even the CEO admits this. You can try and crybully all you want, but you just flat out stated it: SRS is a place people can attract attention to posts they disagree with so people can (wink wink) be mad and (nudge nudge) nothing else. So it's obviously just a cooooincidence when SRS or one of it's sub-groups links to a post and suddenly the thread is filled with shitheels from SRS harassing people and downvoting things into oblivion.
But it's OK, because they had the wrong opinions, and after all, SRS and the Regressive Left trolls that inhabit it have truly golden morality that we all must accept as perfect truth. Or else.
And that's not getting into some of the other shitty things SRS has done - the doxing, the taking over of other subs just to destroy them (like the attempted coup of meirl a few months back, heck I just checked and one of them has over 60 subs under his control, and another has several hundred), the use of bots to auto-downvote and harass people...
Lets be frank. If The_Donald did half of what SRS does every single day they would be shut down and absolutely no one would be able to defend them. But Regressive Leftist subs like SRS, Drama, etc get a pass because they share some of the same politics as the admins. It's an open joke that a group of no life losers can hang out in IRC and brigade on reddit all day and never, EVER face consequences.

Re:The censorship treadmill is moving
Fair enough, but there appear to be blatantly fabricated "evidence" from the pizzagaters (photos taken from random websites, etc. [snopes.com]).
Look how they try to muddy the waters. Here's an archive version of the summary Snopes is "debunking". It has links to other archives, including one of a photo with a very young girl with her arms taped to a table, taken from "jimmycomet"'s instagram, a.k.a. James Alefantis, owner of Comet Ping Pong.
Just a harmless joke? Maybe, in isolation, but there's lots of creepy shit surrounding this to make you think otherwise.
The real stuff can be found in archive.is. One thing learned in GamerGate early on was to archive everything before stuff got deleted or set to private, and the denial and smog machine got cranked up.

Re:The Streisand Effect has been triggered
Well, I still haven't seen any smoking guns just yet
Really???
So if CowboyNeil came out and admitted to editing your posts because he disagrees with your politics, would you have a problem with that?
This isn't speculation, Spez admitted to depriving Reddit of its default protections under 47 U.S.C. 230. Spez didn't just commit a minor faux pas, he opened Reddit-the-company to serious legal liability as a result of his thin skin.
He then got caught in a leaked chat transcript conspiring with a handful of top default mods to find a way to ban T_D (y'know, the only sub openly supporting the goddamned president-elect of the United States of Fucking America without pissing off the userbase too much.
And you want a smoking gun? Hey, does this video footage of the gun firing repeatedly count?
/ Jesus, when will Slashdot allow HTML entities, never mind actual *gasp* Unicode! -

Re:College enrollment is artificially raised
a google search isn't really a good citation since it's unclear which link you are referencing and since the links can change over time since search results are not guaranteed to remain the same over time.
Here's a snapshot of the search results:
Was there any link in particular you were referring to or just all of them?

The pollsters did not use the same methods as before, Reuters changed polling formulas when it did give them answer they wanted http://www.breitbart.com/2016-... and just deleted polls http://archive.is/B12MC when that didn't work.
Trump used a UK internal pollster had no problem correctly predicting where to campaign http://mashable.com/2016/11/10....

Re:AT&T does what it wants
No Socialism means the people control the business, sometimes through government, sometimes through co-ops, worker owned businesses, credit unions and similar. Sometimes the government does a good job such as in Scandinavia, though too often it turns corrupt, as seen in most 3rd world authoritarian regimes, sometimes government is thrown out, such as Spain in the civil war (until the Stalinists showed up) and northern Italy. Actually currently in Spain, http://archive.is/SvI7U
Most Americans forget, or rather never knew, that the first Libertarians were Socialist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Think for yourself instead of the propaganda that has been fed to you by the main stream media, who are all owned by the likes of AT&T and your government, who is also owned by the likes of AT&T.

Re:Those links will still break
yes, even if a domain squatter gets the domain.
Additionally, their interpretation of robots.txt is questionable.
It was meant to prevent automated crawlers, not human-requested fetches, yet often the web archive will disallow me from archiving a page because of robots.txt.
This is one reason I often will archive to both http://web.archive.org AND archive.is.
Archive.is explains its robots.txt policy in its FAQ.
http://archive.is/faq#Why_does...
> Why does archive.is not obey robots.txt?
> Because it is not a free-walking crawler, it saves only one page acting as a direct agent of the human user. Such services don't obey robots.txt (e.g. Google Feedfetcher, screenshot- or pdf-making services, isup.me, )
People have asked about this on the archive.org forum but I haven't read them all to see if there are any good answers.

They didn't keep it hidden, we caught them!
You say that as if we haven't caught them doing anything!
Employees remove Trump posts as "hate speech"
The group "Assassinate Donald Trump" does not violate Facebook community standards:
This sort of thing, even as a joke, normally gets people a visit from the Secret Service...Former Facebook Workers: We Routinely Suppressed Conservative News
Banned for talking about getting censored:
So no, they weren't able to keep the conspiracy hidden. You, however, seem to have managed to be ill-informed about it.
I haven't covered everything, either.

Re: What's wrong with hate symbols?
Oh boy! Everyone's favorite anti-democratic pro-fascist poster is back! I wonder if I can now count you as my own personal stalker.
Yes, expecting that people have different opinions and *not* attacking them is fascism for you. Good to see you're still so cowardly that in that same thread you haven't responded to anything else, while still claiming "I'm attacking people" when I show you the face of the modern left engaging in witch hunts. Perhaps you'd like another? Like this person who's also on the far-left, self-identifies as a SJW and openly advocating people and fire bombing business for having a different opinion.

Re:How many of these "anti-Semites" are DNC plants
How much of that racism and anti-Semitism is actually real, and how much — "false flag" operations by DNC-operatives like these?
1) CTR explicitly instructs its workers to create and distribute racist Pepes to discredit Pepe and the so-called "alt right".
2) As anyone who spends a good amount of time on 4chan knows, literally anything at all that becomes popular will become nazi-fied at some point. It's just how the internet works, especially when you're dealing with jaded mostly-teenagers with practically total anonymity. Anything that can have swastikas spammed on it will have swastikas spammed on it, whether that 'anything' is a frog meme or a minecraft server.
3) Yes, there is racism on 4chan. Racists (and all other sorts of assholes) will always flock to bastions of anonymity and free speech - just look at any relatively-unmoderated comments section on any site on the internet. And while racism and Pepe may sometimes intersect by chance (see #2), there is no genuine correlation between the two. Much less is Pepe some revered symbol for white supremacists.
4) Also important: Much (most?) of the racism on 4chan is ironic and meant to be humorous. However since a prison shower would seem like an intolerable cesspool of political correctness compared to 4chan, this subtlety is completely lost on virtually everyone else in the world, and those who try to understand often just come to the conclusion that channers are Bad People for being amused by such things.

Re:Fucking Yanks, world police.
Syria was a civil war incited by the Arab Spring and a dictator butting heads that we were keeping our collective noses out of for a decade.
Bullshit! https://www.washingtonpost.com...
Classified U.S. diplomatic cables show that the State Department has funneled as much as $6 million to the group since 2006 to operate the satellite channel and finance other activities inside Syria.
Once the fire finally ignited you added more fuel:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06...Same sort of thing for Libya, Iraq[1] etc. The US has been helping to start fires and keep them ablaze for decades.
As for 9/11 guess who helped Osama bin Laden and gang grow in power: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/sou...
http://archive.is/1wddNOpen your eyes. These are all mainstream articles not conspiracy nut sites. You bunch are far from the good guys. Heck even the Russians have more legal justification for messing with Syria (the Syrian government asked them to help).
If you think a country having a corrupt evil government doing really bad stuff gives other countries the right to help overthrow it perhaps you should look at the USA sometime. Corrupt? Evil? Actively doing really bad stuff? All checked.
[1] Yeah Saddam was an evil dictator, guess who helped him get in power and kept supporting him? http://foreignpolicy.com/2013/...

Re:Anita Sarkeesian: Destroyer of Shareholder Valu
Somehow I don't think blocking a few rightwing nutjobs caused Twitter to lose value
So which part makes them "nut jobs" the part where they post things offensive to regressive leftists, or the parts where they post politically compromising things that hurt their feelings and they should be silenced before you have too much to think for yourself?
FYI twitter has dug this hole on it's own. The second you start censoring content because it hurts feelings or it's politically inconvenient to a group of people, that's when investors start to flee. Their links are just scratching the surface, twitter ever since they put their 1984ish sounding "Trust and Safety council" has been suppressing trending hashtags and tweets if it shows leftists or democrats in a bad light. Blocking and censoring journalists from showing up in some countries, helping EU countries suppress citizens who are critical of the influx of illegals. And of course censoring content if it's "offensive."

Re:Dead Link
Is that the place where the SJWs threw a fit over a sign that said "meritocracy"?
Yes, and where SJWs tried to force a "Code of Conduct" onto developers, and where SJWs have appeared in droves pulling stunts like trying to get contributors removed for their personal beliefs that have nothing to do with their project, and throwing victim tantrums because their pull requests weren't accepted. The site and its employees encourage this garbage.

Re:I'm fine with it..
Put away your bedtime stories. You're repeating horseshit.
A news-tier source refuting the idea that it started in the way you suggest.
Now, let's move on to the other problem. We'll assume an alternate reality where that was the case, that it started in response to that. That claim wasn't a lie. You're full of shit. Rather, it was a lie in the sense that as stated, it was wrong (which makes it a convenient meme for sure), but the substance of it was not wrong.
If you could read words, you would see that Totilo himself acknowledges that something to this effect happened. He is handwaving the allegations for two reasons: First, it wasn't a review. Second, they had a "professional" relationship at the time. 2 weeks later, it was romantic, but not before the coverage. Supposedly.
He also only specifically wrote about the Kotaku coverage, which was a single article. His investigation amounted to talking to Grayson directly and that was the end of it.
Two articles from before the Kotaku article:
https://archive.is/WtK25
https://archive.is/QwJbcAnd let's not forget that he saw fit to cover her again, this time disclosing that they had dated briefly, but somehow not mentioning the financial support.
It was not a weak angle. Tell me what the fuck you would expect of an overly corrupt media. I suppose they'll investigate themselves and find that they've done wrong? The simple, undeniable fact is that they abused their platform and that happened regardless of what you and your warm fuzzy feelings about massive herds of misogynists does for you.
I don't pretend to know what happened at 4chan, but what's incredible is that you think you know more than anybody else about it. How do you know those things?
