Armadillo Run
It's similar in game play to World of Goo, but more technical, and more varied. It's rather old, but it appears that it can still be purchased.

Re:sweet game
I'm playing the Wiiware version now. It's a lot of fun if you like puzzle games. It reminds me of Armadillo Run or The Incredible Machine (if you're old enough to remember that game). I'd prefer a mouse over the Wiimote, so I'm considering getting the PC/Mac version which allows you to download the Linux beta now.

Armadillo Run
Anyone checked to see if the XO has the horsepower for Armadillo Run? It's an additively fun game and is based on manipulating physics to accomplish goals.

Re:Lack of Interest
Yes, everything was better back in the days. That's called nostalgia.
It's not easy to find the real good indie games, especially if you don't know the scene.
Two of my favorites:
the DROD series: logic puzzles, haven't played a better puzzle game. Not even in the 80ies :-)
Armadillo Run: Physics puzzles, lots of fun.

Re:It will always be alive
If you liked that you might like Armadillo Run or Pontifex One or Two. OK they drift from 2D, but are still very fun construction type games.

Armadillo Run
Given the nature of Slashdot's readership, any roundup of the year really needs to include Armadillo Run.
If you haven't heard of it, go and check out the site and (if you have access to a Windows machine) download the demo.
Most fun I've had with a 1-player game since the original Lemmings. -
Re:If they can pull it off...
Heres a couple of games you might enjoy (Physics related stuff) that should run on any PC and do work in a window: In fact you can easily jump in and out of them whilst playing.
I only mention them as I expect its the kind of games the /. crowd may enjoy
Armadillo Run - Physics-based puzzle game. You have to build structures with the purpose of getting an armadillo to a certain point in space.
Ballance - Fight against the force of gravity! Face dizzying heights and plummeting depths. Steer a ball through a surreal cloud world full of puzzling mechanisms, over metal rails, wooden bridges and more.
Good games :D

Armadillo Run
If you haven't tried Armadillo Run, I highly recommend it. Especially if you were ever a fan of The Incredible Machine.
