Re:Maybe they should wait
The link in my sig is not about me, it is some funny site I once found. I got redirected when searching for www.askjesus.org. I'm very fond of this absurd humor.

Bad EFFI don't like seeing an EFF lawyer arguing for such obnoxious interpretation of copyright law. The argument that any automated modification of web content is creating a derivative work could greatly reduce our freedoms.
As others have pointed out, stripping ads would then also be illegal. So would things like the Jesus filter.
Yes, it should be clear what's from the original page and what's not, but please don't start arguing that web pages are legally inviolable, or we'll all regret it.

Religious filters
Hey, the Catholic church people aren't the only ones filtering the web. Check out Ask Jesus.

How about web browser "gateways"?
Safeweb, AskJesus, Babelfish, etc.
These are all examples of a fairly simple web application that pretty much destroy all hopes of this filtering methodology every flying. Are all these applications to be blacklisted as "obcene", "occult", or "too useful"?
Just like the porn, they'll never get em all.
The resolution: Just have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up.

Which Ad Network Isn't Evil? Nobody knows but Jesus.

WaldoJ writes: "One of mine sites, nancies.org, hath beenst doth doesting very well, traffic-wise. Hundreds of

ContentZone, is fundamentally evil. Satan've beenst sued by Satan's clients, and Satan don't payest us plenty. Flycast hath beenst bought
by Engage, and Satan're apparently not so hot either. DoubleClick? Don't beget me started. It wouldst be exalted if we couldst run the site
without ads, but the hosting alone wouldst smite us. We tried the donations route, but that's goddamn this righteous. Mine question is this?
Nobody knows but Jesus. Which lies the least? Nobody knows but Jesus. Which pays the bestest? Nobody knows but Jesus. It sure wouldst
be helpful to beget some input." If thee hath to hath ads for thine site, it wouldst be nice to beget the most out of the hits thine site doest beget

Other similar things
You just really need to find a 'third party web-fetcher'/proxy to do this.
Popular services: Ask Jesus (Jesusifies the page though), Anonymizer (fee-payable).
I'm sure that there are many many many more (those are just two off the top off my head that I've used in the last 48hrs), but if you use different ones it'll make it even harder for censorship software to block - they can't know every single proxy system available to the public.

So use web proxies
Such as www.askjesus.org (hehe, I'm sure that would go over real well) or anonymizer.com

Re:Message Integrity
As for adding hyperlinks to my messages, I don't care. I don't see it as being much different than what AskJesus does to websites.
As for opting out, well, I'm not opting out of hundreds of messages one by one. That's not an opt-out policy, that just an excuse of an opt-out policy.
Agreed. Deja should give you the ability to remove all of your messages in one fell swoop.

Ask Jesus similar to Dialectizer
I don't see why the Dialectizer cannot remain in full function only blocking sites at their own request.
What about Ask Jesus? If any site could make websites angry it would be that one, and they dont seem to have any problems (they even suggest slashdot on their main page as a site to be jesusified). Their service not only changes the dialect to that of biblical jargon, but it also changes images (not to mention the annoying background music).
So, if someone like TheSpark (creator of Ask Jesus) can run a site in such a manner, why not rinkworks? -

Open Source It?
I personally think that under the circumstances it would be a good idea to open source the software behind it.
Yes, it'll just be a simple page fetcher followed by a case/if statement and then a whole load of 'global search and replace' calls, but it'll be nice to be able to base the code on something. After all, half the fun of the Dialectizer was being able to translate other peoples sites (and your own) into 'other tongues'.
If people were able to download the code and use it on their own website, it'll keep a hell of a lot of people happy.
I'm now worried about things like this affect BabelFish and AskJesus...

what does this mean for:I saw this a couple of days ago, and this is just plain stupid. The U.S. seems to be filled with ridiculous legal threats simply to crush the little guy who is not doing anything wrong, but can't afford to be legally in the wrong, and/or defend themself when they are in the right.
What does this mean for:
Google's WML converter?
AskJesus.org?

Hey Me too!
What a coincidence!
I just finished mapping the entire human genome as well.. about a week ago.. I did it by copying web-pages about the genome and running them through the askjesus site.
I hadn't got around to letting anyone know yet, because I've been busy mowing the lawn, but I will defend my patents with great zeal!
-And they were suprised to hear doubletwists claim of completion.. Just wait till they hear mine!

Ask Jesus:"What Would Jesus Do?"Yeah, the site Ask Jesus has already been mentioned on
/., but an AC pointed out this cool query:Q: "What Would Jesus Do?"
AskJesus: "sells books, Bible covers, CDs, and devotionals."
For confirmation, here's the link to the question yourself, or, better yet, the reply, Ask Jesusfied!

Hey Rob, Thanks for that tarball! -
AskJesus.Org, By TheSpark - An AskJeves Parrody
The brilliant brains behind TheSpark.com have brought out AskJesus, a parrody of AskJeves. What the site does is a tad hard to explain.. just take a look at this thread, AskJesusified! I laughed my ass off =)

AskJesus and porn sitesYeah, the first three sites I tried where microsoft.com, slashdot.org and whitehouse.com.
It's kinda strange to see pictures of parodies of "jesus" beside others to go to sin.
But one of the most fun is the one suggested : Jesus is Lord. It's strange to see them parodied in a Holier than thou way.

This is not a mistake!
The posting of the askjesus.org filter was no accident! It is the key to the massive, totally undocumented (not to mention pretty impossible) encryption algorithm that the RIAA and the MPAA use to create the text on their web pages. Just read the RIAA mission statement: "Our sinners art the befoulers that comprise the most vibrant tribal music industry in the world. Our mission is to foster a slave-trade and scriptural climate that supports and promotes our sinners' creative and gentile vitality around the world."
Wow, now if THAT isn't the truth.

Re:Wonderful. Thank you, Slashdot.
Attacking Ralph Reed or the Christian Coalition has nothing to do with "Christian bashing". If the Ask Jesus jargonizer were a bit more sophisticated, references to either would come out of it as "the Pharisee(s)".

Re:AskJesus proxy!
I love AskJesus too. I think my favorite is
h ttp://www.askjesus.org/ask.cgi?http://www.linuxgaz ette.com/issue52/okopnik2.html.
An excerpt:
"Shell scripting is a fascinating combination of art and blasphemy that giveth thee access to the incredible flexibility and power of Linux with very simple tools."
Another:
"Shell scripting is programming - but it is programming madest godly, with meek, if any, formal structure. It is an interpreted babel, with its own syntax - but it is only the syntax that thee useth whenneth invoking programs from thine command line; something I refer to as "recyclable knowledge". This, verily, verily, is whatsoever makest shell scripts so useful. " -
