You are not alone in that sentiment
Here is a 1998 essay from Greg Graffin on that very subject.
-
Dr Graffin's "Web-surdities"One of my favorite writers posted about this a few years back. After reflecting upon his thoughts, I concluded that assembling mass support for an issue depends on individuals' personal/emotional involvement. That interest and enthusiasm can be multiplied by getting people together in physical proximity, which energizes them. Having a lot of loud, energized people in the capital city is a lot more compelling to the rest of society than an "e-protest".
Here is the link to the article: http://badreligion.com/news/essays.php?id=8. He has since become a Ph.D and a biology instructor at UCLA.
To quote from the first two paragraphs:
Recently, I read an article in the paper that related the growing trend of "Digital Demonstrators" (Wall Street Journal, Dec. 3, 1998). It said that "virtual marches" could be an effective way to bring about social change. It stated that "activists can demonstrate with a mouse click...
This really pissed me off! First of all, it is a gross misrepresentation of what motivates social and political change. Ultimately, social change comes from an emotionally based behavior pattern. The reason people change in unison is because we are united by a similar emotional response. We are not moved to change the laws if we don't have an emotional experience that connects us to the political issue.

Re:Beaten?getting beaten up by two punks
Get it right we punks are all anti-creationist anti-intelligent design. See Greg Graffin's Punk Manifesto:

BTW Greg the singer of Bad Religion recently completed a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology
Mirecki was beaten up by two rednecks.

Re:This is BAD!Greg Graffin made a really good essay on the topic in 1998.

electronic protests, what a joke
I could go on about how electronic protest barely shows any interest in the topic at all, but Greg Graffin sums it up much better: http://www.badreligion.com/news/essays.php?id=8
To be fair, he's sort of a technophobe in general, but his point on this subject remains valid. -
Yup :)
Yup. Bad Religion rocks IMHO. Sucky 120 char limit though limits me giving them a tagline.

Cornell Evolution Project
Greg Gaffin of Bad Religion fame recently released his doctoral dissertation on evolution vs. creationism. It's not available online in it's entirety, but I ordered by paper copy last week.
Gaffin is an excellent writer even outside of the songs he's written for Bad Religion. If you'd like a peek check out some of the essays he's posted.

Bad Religion
Sweet! The band Bad Religion have a song called "10 in 2010"! Although I don't think this is what they were talking about.

Re:What this means is
Bad Religion Rocks.
They are angry and loud, but the are also deep and thought provoking. I have got to say they (and Nirvana) are my two favorate bands in the world.
but they Suck live: I went to one of there concerts in TO (canada). it was total bullshit. everone at the concert looked like they were between 14-17, and the Greg Graffin looked like they had gotten Real old, Like Rolling Stones old, maybe he was hungover or something, but he had no energy on stage.
anyway they are an amazing band, (on CD at least) and you should check them out.
They have several sample songs on there website for download.
These are probably the best out of the ones that are posted:
Recipe For Hate
American Jesus
but the best albums IMHO
"Gray Race" & "Stranger Than Fiction" don't have any samples, sad really
any way They are amazing and you should check them out

I love my computerBad Religion
I love my computer you make me feel alright
every waking hour and every lonely night
I love my computer for all you give to me
predictable errors and no identity
and it's never been quite so easy
I've never been quite so happy
all I need to do is click on you
and we'll be joined in the most soul-less way
and we'll never ever ruin each other's day
cuz when I'm through I just click and you just go away
I love my computer you're always in the mood
I get turned on when I turn on you
I love my computer you never ask for more
you can be a princess or you can be my whore
and it's never been quite so easy
I've never been quite so happy
the world outside is so big but it's safe in my domain
because to you I'm just a number and a clever screen name
all I need to do is click on you
and we'll be together for eternity
and no one is ever gonna take my love
from me because I've got security,
her password and a key -
Punk is
From www.badreligion.com
PUNK IS: the personal expression of uniqueness that comes from the experiences of growing up in touch with our human ability to reason and ask questions.
PUNK IS: a movement that serves to refute social attitudes that have been perpetuated through willful ignorance of human nature.
PUNK IS: a process of questioning and commitment to understanding that results in self-progress, and through repetition, flowers into social evolution.
PUNK IS: a belief that this world is what we make of it, truth comes from our understanding of the way things are, not from the blind adherence to prescriptions about the way things should be.
PUNK IS: the constant struggle against fear of social repercussions.
