Authors are the victims!
I don't like this idea one bit. If someone wants to copy my series of unproduced anime scripts about an orphan whose trying to prevent the armageddon, they have my blessings to do so! If congress disallows people from copying vast databases of information which people translate into online content, it'll destroy not only the dreams and ambitions of authors whose soul purpose in life is to have their stuff get read, but it'll also slow down internet surfing by making temporary caches illegal, because they're copies of vast amounts of information, some of which could be considered information from databases. It'd also make the internet archive illegal, and that would EXTREMELY tick me off, because I refer to that archive frequently for tidbits from my old sites; it's nice to know that I can go to their database for my files which have been erased by hosts with whom my accounts have expired.

The best sims be The SIMS!
Online worlds are obviously the best multipurpose computer simulations! The army monitors the activities of bad guys in Everquest, or so I've read, in order to learn more about the habits of real bad guys. A "sim mob boss" was recently interviewed on CNN, in a feature about "griefers." Everyone's using online worlds as proving grounds, too, such as what the article implies about economics. For example, online worlds gave me the imagination which fueled my unproduced television scripts!

Quake...
I need more violent video games in my life; seriously, I write shojo anime as a hobby, when a heterosexual male, in his early twenties, such as myself should instead be writing shonen! Let's blast everything until it's toasty!

It's all true, I tell ya!
I'm planning a BANANA CHAN script, for early next year, in which Banana gets a "Nigerian E-mail", believes the story, but doesn't fall victim -- instead, she ends up saving the lives of Nigerian Royalty, and she gets extremely rich from the "transfer of monies"

Free Our Egos!
As a provider of free content on the internet myself -- not usually computer programs, though -- I agree with you that programmers, and anyone who provides any free content, deserve recognition. Free materials on the internet are usually high quality. They're free because it's the author's passion to create it, be it a computer program, or a series of unproduced television scripts. Anyone who makes free content, does it out of passion. That passion makes quality products, and encouraging publicity of the author's names will encourage productivity from that author.

Re:Good idea, poor execution.
Granted their offerings are limited, but they show GOLDEN BOY which is a VERY HILARIOUS ANIME! If more people see good shows like that, they'll get addicted to anime, and life will be perfect! The BANANA CHAN site got into the action with a thingy at the top of the screen begging people to subscribe to The Anime Network.

Unofficial WEBBY nomination...
I nominate my web-site for a WEBBY, because I bet no one's ever done what I'm doing: writing an entire seventy-four episode television series, and posting the scripts to the internet, without knowing if the scripts will ever get produced or not. People have posted pilot scripts for original TV series' to the internet before, but has any ONE PERSON ever written an entire seventy-four episode TV series, and posted all the scripts to the internet without knowing if they'll ever be produced? I'm posting them on a schedule, so there's currently only thirteen episodic scripts on my site, but there will be seventy four when I've finished the project. If I don't win a webby, I should at least get mentioned in the guiness book under the category BIGGEST SHOJO GEEK.

Banana Chan is the BEST ANIME CONCEPT!
I read the words "opportunity for", and the words "self-righteous post"; thus, it's somewhat appropriate for props to be given regarding my l33t slillz in the art of teleplay writing. BANANA CHAN is a virtual television series whose scripts are posted to the internet in television season schedules. Season one is completely scripted, using software called SOPHOCLES which helps me to write proper-length scripts in television format. If you read the first season, at the web-site, you'll see that it's a really awesome sci-fi/fantasy about the effects of a single wish... Be careful what you wish for, especially when your wish is "I wish there were no more poor people." Anyway, read the series, and you'll know what I mean about how cool it is. And when you're done, tell me what skillz I got for monster.ca to list, eh?

Darn it!
Darn it! They shouldn't create that flicker, because what if some of the more sensitive of us DO notice it while watching movies in the theatre? What if we don't notice it, but it gives us an unexplainable headache which renders movie theatres unbearable, thus useless to a small percentage of people who previously enjoyed films? If they ever make a movie of the first five of my BANANA CHAN tv scripts, I don't want that flicker, because it'd render the movie unwatchable to a large extent of people who can only afford to watch bootlegged movies! -- that's not a point made in good morals, I know, but the Dreamcast version of SHENMUE 2 wouldn't have been able to be played by me, due to my financial situation, if it weren't for pirates whom I'm sometimes acquainted with; therefore, piracy is the poor world's primary source of cool literature, such as movies and video games, err...again, not a point made in good morals...or is it? I guess my main point, which isn't in
god morals is: I've never pirated a movie before, and it'd be a shame to have the opportunity taken away before I get a video camera...maybe I should just shut up, eh? It's my birthday, so don't arrest me for my counter-culture opinions :) -
...err...comics are good!
I run a comic called Banana Chan. It's not nerdy...yet...but I had to mention it.

Re:AC flames kill movie projects!
Is a goatse redirect when someone posts a link to their site which they think is on topic, but someone else doesn't think it's on topic? I think my site fits into this topic because the first five scripts on my site can combine to form an entire movie script. And those Elite hollywood message boards should take notice of my site because the scripts are ABOVE AVERAGE QUALITY!

Another Online Epic...
Oh, and they still don't post articles about the teleplay project at www.bananachan.com -- that online epic deserves recognition too (it's a much better story than broken saints. Yeah, Broken Saints is pretty, but c'mon)
:)
I guess if I were to post an article about Banana Chan, I'd say that their next major epic begins on May 3rd. -
Purpose of Spam
The purpose of spam has always been to annoy people so much that they'll go to your web-site, or buy your product. It's cheap advertising, and effective if done correctly; however, it's intrusive, and often pornographic, and therefore legal limits should be forced upon spammers. Me telling people about my anime web-site in virtually every post I make to Slashdot, I guess, falls into the category of spam; however, at least I'm not a) advertising porno. b) e-mailing you. c) e-mailing you badly composed haikus about porno! Some of the spam I get is just plain weird; it's like "let's play a fun game/at my pornographic site/so come in it's fun!" Seriously, I get stuff like that in my inbox. Kids have e-mail accounts, and they shouldn't be bombarded with that stuff, but they are. I remember when it used to be that when you turn eighteen, you start getting that kind of spam in your Hotmail (proof that Bill Gates sells e-mail addresses to spammers); however, it's not
like that anymore. My seven year old brother Sam started a YAHOO! Mail account so that he could talk with his older brother, but now he's seen things on the net which -- well, to put it lightly, he's probably more aware of ...err...human nature... than I was at that age, all because of the evils of spammers. They should go to hell...the porno ones should go to hell, I mean. My anime site is rated PG. -

Hmm...Fiction influencing reality...
I am your Captain, and I am giving you a direct order: get influenced by my fiction. Well, I'm not a Captain, so you don't have to follow the order; however, I read Orson Scott Card's how-to book about writing sci-fi before I wrote my fiction; therefore, there's gotta be at least one or two cool ideas in it which can influence someone cool to do something cool, eh?

That's Nothing...
That's nothing. I've delayed posting my BANANA CHAN anime scripts to the internet since 1995; that's when I started planning the first storyline for my site, so Peter Jackson can kiss my boot

Anime Party My House!
Wow! I'll finally be able to see it in theatres just DAYS before its release to video (April 15th, I think, is its video release date.) When spirited away was first being made, I read a lot of things about Mayazaki on the internet, and those things inspired me to write my own anime-based fiction. It's the most popular movie EVER in Japan, so it's a good bet that SPIRITED AWAY will be in North American theaters for a VERY LONG TIME, and hopefully it spawns anime to be on prime-time TV. If NBC, CBS, UPN and FOX, would each have one anime program in their weekly prime-time line-ups, the world would be a much better place. Knowing FOX, they'd be the ones to show RANMA1/2 which is quite possibly the best anime ever made for TV...heh heh.

Yes.
I design www.bananachan.com The site hosts a sci-fi anime story which I wrote, and I like to imagine the interface as LCARS-esque. Actually, I like to imagine the entire internet as LCARS-esque. I can't be the only nerd who's familiar with the term LCARS, can I?

Best Picture...About a Banana.
If the first five episodes of BANANA CHAN were made into a movie, it'd be the first-ever Best Picture nomination for an anime [knock-off]...in my opinion.
