Re:Code Vs Emotion
Yes, I agree. A code of conduct that says you should be nice to people?! What is the world coming to? Everybody knows that the best programmers are assholes and enjoy being assholes, right? And that makes better code: when you drive out the people who can't take being insulted and belittled, only the strong survive, and are better programmers for it.
Indeed, didn't we all learn that from the BOFH? If you can't torture everyone else, why even bother?

Many good comments already. Over decades, I've had many positions IT and others. When in an IT / admin position, I've always kept the 'bofh' series in mind; helps with the constant stupid requests. http://bofh.bjash.com/ Hope this helps.

It's kinda obvious ...
... you're not in IT.
I have seriously fucked over some majorly big people in my career who came, in a subtle way, to discover a direct correlation between their computing experience and their treatment of me.
Nice people had a lot less trouble than the assholes did.
See BOFH.

Dumb idea
What's a BOFH to do? With auto correct this could cut down trouble calls a lot. It's a BOFH's highlight of the day to get those calls.

Re:Meh...
"so...you'll pay my bill if I fix it? Oh, so, then, it's NOT your computer..." Go read all of the Bastard Operator From Hell, then you'll find your capabilities as an effective sys admin increase a thousandfold. Just the excuse list is useful..."solar flares" is the best non-answer ever for all wifi/cellular issues you don't feel like actually explaining.

Unfortunately the original site of bofh.ntk.net doesn't resolve for me, but http://bofh.bjash.com/ has the original classics.
