Re:On a similar vein
Use tab sidebar.
http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/T abSidebar
Yes, isn't officially on addons.mozilla.org, but this addon has been out there for a while.
You can always inspect the code if you want. -
Re:No, it's not "losing its way"
You can just you this extension: http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/
n ightly Or even do this: http://lifedev.net/2006/10/firefox20-extension-upd ate/ Then you can keep all your old-forgotten-etc extensions. -
Re:The 9 Reasons
They have lots of backward compatability, they just want the extension authors to check that nothing has changed for them. Most of my "broken" extensions work if I change the version number with nightly tester tools.
-
Re:Firefox 1.x Extensions
Yes, if the respective authors of the extensions update them for 2.0.
If not, you can try out the Nightly Tester Tools extension.
You can either force Firefox 2 to check for extension updates via the Extension dialog, or let it do it automatically on application startup. -
Hmm... [Re:I'll upgrade if]
Firefox 1.0 - 1.5.0.* ALL
He's going to need the Nightly Tester Tools, too, in that case... -
Re:What about extensions?
You can use the Nightly Tester Tools extension to make all of your extensions compatible with Firefox 2. It works on all of the extensions I use here and it was very easy to use. Just push the "Make All Compatible" button on the bottom of the add-ons window and restart Firefox.
-
Nightly Tester Tools
If you're too lazy to bump the maxversion of your favorite extensions, you can use the Nightly Tester Tools to fore the app into thinking an extension is compatible.

Re:Users beware
Hence the nightly tester tools extension that lets you get past the version # game with extensions and themes.

Re:Getting FF Extensions To Work
Or use the Nightly Tester Tools to force them to install anyway, which involves a whole lot less fiddling about
:) -
Re:Tabbed Browsing in the Side Bar, Please!
Good news, that is already done! It's called Tab Sidebar.
-
Re:Strict version compatibility
You probably want the Nightly Tester Tools extension. Does the work for you!
:) -
Re:"Quick Tab"
The moz page was as interesting as vegemite, to me. I found the:
http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/T abSidebar/index.html
to be more apparent to my eyes.
But, in either case, I hope they make it to Konqueror, Gnome, and the other browsers in *nux land...
I wonder if Kasbar will be adapted to show these thumbnails like they already show the desktop. I like seeing my Lotus SmartSuite appear in a Kasbar thumbnail, especialy a giant/huge thumbnail. Kasbar is nice for showing off. -
Re:IE7 is a dupe!
Not exactly, the copy of the omniweb feature would be Tab Sidebar (which is the exact duplicate of the Omniweb implementation)
-
Re:"Quick Tab"
Or the Tab Sidebar one which has more or less the same goal, but loads the thumbnails in the sidebar instead of creating a new tab with the thumbnails (it's basically a tab bar with thumbnails)

Re:Fix just came out.
Particularly since Firefox actually had RC's. You'd think they could be updated in that time. Until then, I use this extension to force compatibility. 95% of my extensions aren't actually incompatible with the new versions.
-
Re:8 out of 10 not compatible here
This is living pretty dangerously, but if you use the nightly tester tools plugin you can use it to make extensions compatible. Of course, that doesn't actually solve any compatibility problems, it just makes it install and run. However, out of something like seven noncompatible plugins I had installed when I installed 1.5RC, all of them worked just fine after the upgrade. YMMV.

Re:Adblock Extension
Of course, the best place for support is not here... but most extensions describe for which versions they work, and usually this excludes the beta and the release candidates. And most extension developers have already changed their interest.
One thing you can do is get the Nightly Tester Tools, http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/b uildid/nightly.html, set it so it makes all extension versions working. Of course this is cheating so some extensions might not work.
An other usual problem with extensions is they have no proper ID. For this, check the extension homepage or the Firefox support fora. -

NoScript is definitely one of the most useful extensions ever! Have a site that somehow gets pop-ups past you? Well, they work via javascript, so fuck 'em! Re:General comments...
Someone on here suggested the Nightly Tester Tools Extension to force old extensions to work. I found it to be a lifesaver and works with just about every extension I've tried.
-
Re:Extensions Again
Or use this extension to allow the installation of 'incompatible' extensions.
-
Re:1.5 Beta 2?
If you can't find a newer version of the extension use this extension to enable it.

Re:Nice.
sometimes if you install an extension that isnt made for this version you cant even use the browser anymore. (you have to manually remove the files)
i dont think that you want to to this.
Restoring the extensions (at your own risk) is very simple with this extension: http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/b uildid/nightly.html
but it cant be done automatically! -
Re:Nice.
It is called Nightly Tester Tools and it is available at http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/

That should do it. -
Re:Shame it doesn't work with 1.5..
Install the Nightly Tester Tools extension and it will work just fine.

Re:Woohoo!
I've been using the nightly branch builds for some time now, and no... I've seen no apparent fix for the memory leak. I mean, maybe a few holes have been plugged... but it still takes more memory than one would expect. On the other hand, I don't remember them claiming it fixed.
The best feature for me is the new automatic nightly version system using Firefox's update system. No more manually downloading, unraring, and changing folder names... just a few clicks and I'm done. A very big plus, for nightly users.
And since 1.5a may break a whole lot of extensions, I recommend Nightly Tester Tools, which can force an extention to work. You may also try going into about:config (type that in the URL bar) and manually making the entery:
app.extensions.version
Then setting this to a value of 1.0+. Can cause other problems though, so I'd go with Nightly Tester Tools first. Lastly, you could simply open the extension with an unzip util and modify the install.rdf, perhaps the most time consuming but failsafe method.
