Re:Calling this "liquid wood"
I think we may just be talking difference in terms?
I'm not talking wood shingles. I'm talking asphalt shingles http://www.bobvila.com/HowTo_Library/Asphalt_Shingles-Asphalt_Shingles-A1464.html
Wood shingles are indeed fairly rare around here. But so are clay tiles and metal roofs.

Structured wiring and sysadmin readingThe best advice I can give is DOCUMENT DOCUMENT DOCUMENT. Document any change you make including date and time. This becomes essential for troubleshooting later on.
An excellent book is "The Practice of System and Network Administration" by Thomas A. Limoncelli, Christine Hogan. (ISBN: 0201702711) It is theory not necessarily platform specific. It is focused at unix, but can be applied in a windoze environment. I wish I had read that book years ago. It really does a good job of summarizing all the best practices. It's all the things they don't teach in school. http://www.everythingsysadmin.com/aboutbook.html There are links to reviews there. The average customer review on amazon is 4.5/5.
As far as pulling cable and doing the physical grunt work..make sure you do structured wiring otherwise you end up with a rats nest of wire. Over plan everything. Don't forget the simple stuff, have a dedicated circuit or two for the server(s) and network equipment with adequate UPS protection. Make sure the room is adequately ventialated and physically secure. Make sure you have room to grow, so when you need more equipment you have room for it or can easily make room for it.

Personal Valet Option
Here is another option for having your clothes "automatically" pressed at home: Whirlpool's Personal Valet. The Personal Valet involves hanging your clothes in the cabnet and waiting 30 minutes. It costs $1200 plus special cleaning chemicals.
It is not as cool as a robot or a wife, but it does clean, descent, and dewrinkle the clothes.

What's stopping you?
Check out Bob Vila for a little bit of insight, or even here for a little bit of information on photovoltaic shingles. You can easily patch them into your power grid via a grid interactive controller, or run them off of car batteries

much better, cheaper ways to save energyInsulated Concrete Forms provide significant (~70%) energy savings for homes in extreme climates.
Plus, they greatly reduce fire risk, termite risk, and wind damage risk.
Now, if you combine solar with ICF, you end up with a house that would require very little power from the grid.

Structured wiringIt's called structured wiring and you can find a lot of information if you Google that phrase. Here is what Bob Vila has to say on Structured Wiring. Typical structured wiring contains two runs of RG-6 and two runs of Cat 6 (or 5e). One run of Cat 6 can be used for two phone lines. The other run can be used for a home network. As for the RG-6, some cable and satellite companies require two runs of cable. Otherwise, you can use one for a home monitoring system.
You would typically run the cables in a home run, or star topology. All cables run from a central location (at a Central Wiring Panel to the intended location. But you don't need to connect each outlet.
You can also run multiple wires to a room, to account for remodeling. For example, let's say your living room has north, south, east, and west walls. Due to the furniture location, you want to connect your TV to the south wall. But you pre-wire to all the walls, just leaving them unconnected. If you decide to move the couch to the other side of the room and move the TV to the north side, you merely go to the central wiring panel, disconnect the south wall from the Cable TV and connect the north wall to the Cable TV.

Re:Keeps us from getting bored
Well, I have a tool set which includs most of the robertson's sizes shown here:
http://www.robertsonscrew.com/screws.html and
http://www.robertsonscrew.com/specialty_products.h tml
Actually speaking of Bob Vila, you fucking asshole, he has Robertson tools available on high web site.
I also fancy WIHA tools, the Kraut bastards sure know how to make some tools correctly.
I also have tools that deal with "screw on only" and security bolts, and torx as well. And hex nuts. If I dont recall you eurofucks like to put that god damn HEX bolt all over the fuckin place, which wouldnt be a problem, except your crap cars corrode them, and make the Allen keys / bits hard to get at and they strip easily.
I have also seen in several german cars allen/HEX bolts overtorqued in such a way youd have to pull half the fuckin engine apart to get a clear shot at the bolt. Now Jap cars are my favorite, but your Euro tards are stupid - you might have a better bolt, but I usre as hell can guaruntee that you will fuck it up in implementation. A side effect of leading worthless socialist laissaiz faire lives.
Anyways, Mr Roberston loveing cock licker, can you please fuck off, and die.
How does it feel to be a snarky little bastard and then have the guy who you are flaming probably know more than you do about the fucking subject? How does it feel?
Oh yeah, you think your EUROTRASH union could do better than to sell BMW M3's at outrageous prices and then have the EGNINES EXPLODE AND REFUSE TO RECALL THEM. You send us the fucking cars, overcharge, then refuse to fix them. This link has over 70 documented cases. And this is a LOW PRODUCTION CAR. Kind of in the tradition of the Exploding COMET Jet that killed so many Brits
Nice job, you cum guzzling queen. -
Good idea
You could check out the Habitat for Humanity - Infrared Insulation Test. It seems they got a special camera from the DOE. I remember a few years back my utility company had a camera that they would use to check out your house if you gave them a call. You can also get IR film for 35mm cameras, but not sure it would do a very good job.
