Re:It has a lot of issues that could be improved
Well, I owned a Kindle 2 - 6" screen. It's just that dark grey text an light-medium grey background that drives me nuts. I wish the "paper" on e-ink was white. At least newspaper have black text. (They darkened the text here a bit imo, but otherwise a good photo showing difference between white and grey):

Re:The case of Gears of War
I bought it when it was just released and I can confirm what he said, it was released a long time after the XBox version, it had many problems which were fixed by a patch.
It was a nightmare to register onto LIVE to play on the multiplayer (at this time LIVE for PC was very buggy)
Someone blogged his issues
After the patch, everything was ok, but it felt like Epic did not really test the game before to release it. They (CliffyB) as well made comments about how the PC market was plagued by pirates and was quite patronizing to the PC gamers. It did not help that soon after messing up this PC release he claimed that Epic will never do another GoW port because of piracy, ... etc instead of realizing that GoW1 PC did not sell because he waited almost a year before to port it. -
Re:Had to read the whole damn thing!
Wat. Stop making baseless conjecture and passing it off as fact, your post is in no way correct.
Get your head out of the sand please. He is probably correct. The most paranoid conspiracy theorist is the government.

Re:Nobody should care about landfillable media
For all intensive purposes, "whom" is no longer a word. That begs the question, "who cares?"
"For all intensive purposes" - Seriously? What exactly is an "intensive purpose" anyway?
While you're looking up "intents and purposes" so as not to look like a moron, you might want to check out the definition of "begs the question" because you fucked that up, too.
Your sig is just one big boat of fail.

Re:hmmmmm Vista... powershell ... winfs..... etc
PC gaming is becoming ever more marginal, and DX10 isn't worth the pain. The bleeding-edge gamers are split on the issue... they like the pretty DX10 effects, but they're also the power users that the increased media limitations of Vista affect the most. The people who run Windows Media Center and couldn't record NBC programs. The people who have troubles getting BluRay video to work on their expensive monitors (and probably never will without resorting to piracy). Vista has done so many things wrong that it's only saving grace might be DX10 like you say, and even that is alienating the very people who are most likely to use it.

Re:Support
Good Point about the onsite service, but according to this link, their phone support blows compared to Apple's: http://www.breakitdownblog.com/ibm-lenovo-thinkpad-support-is-unbelievably-bad/

been there, done that, the answer is NOT YET
I decided to test SSD drives on couple of laptop users some months ago.
Today we have none of them left, all went bad in a matter of weeks.
Tried SanDisk 5000 series, both 2.5" and 1,5". No luck.
1,8 died completely, 2.5 just got more and more bad blocks.
Will try with Mitron 7000 as well, when the damn thing ships.
But whatever they say, my suggestion is to keep out of this SSD business until there is more reliable NV memory than flash...
p.s. Writing is sloooowwww, I have commented it earlier here -
Super Automatics are Nice
Good timing, I just posted a review to the Super Automatic we ended up getting here:
http://www.breakitdownblog.com/2007/05/16/jura-cap resso-impressa-s9-avantgarde-review/
The bean question is a good one. With our old drip maker I couldn't tell a difference at all, with the super-auto I can tell a *huge* difference between a "smooth/fresh" bean and a "bitter/old" bean. Starbucks beans taste like crap in the super... they are *very* bitter. I also try and get a mild to light roast to preserve the caffeine in the bean which is something not a lot of people realize (darker == more roast == less caffeine) -
Given their products, is anyone surprised? Is anyone surprised that THIS is his management style, and the end result is Vista? I have to say that as soon as I used Vista and saw what 5 years of work had wrought, I freaking called it. You don't need a degree in Asshole to know that type of management style will realized a product as mis-guided, discontiguous, disorganized and buggy as Vista.
I've had an opportunity to work for people like this before, and the resulting project was identical to how Vista turned out. Made no sense, every week "Priority #1 was something different, and not determined by any intelligent estimation, but instead by how pissed off the manager was and how much screaming he did. So whatever he screamed about on Friday's meeting was Priority #1 for the next week... until the next Friday when he didn't care about that issue anymore and it was something else.
Personality types like this are the most poisonous in any kind of relationship (work, personal, etc.) and never bears any sort of recognizable fruit.
Actually I don't even think I need to type the last sentence... the result speaks for itself doesn't it?- http://www.macobserver.com/stockwatch/2007/04/30.

Good
I'm glad to see this happen, for too long children have been able to do "stuff" and see "things". With rulings like this and future parents suing for what their children eat, to who they talk to, to what they do when they ditch school even, I am really looking forward to a school system that is instead run by fear and looks a lot like a penitentury or a nursing home.
As long as kids are held back from experiencing anything, then I feel safe. And as long as I feel safe, that's all that matters... or I'll sue you.
