Re:The return the Confederacy?
This isn't accurate. While you see the nutjobs growing more vehement in some areas of the country, places like Texas are actually moving more to the left due to large influx of immigrants. There are stories now that point to the shifting demographics as an indicator that Texas will be a battleground state in 8-10 years, and will (barring other voting pattern changes) shift further left after that. Non-hispanic whites are already a minority in the state, and this will only continue to change, and Hispanics vote for liberal candidates by a large majority.

Excatly! Agree 100%
Although I have met more male psychologiest then females though. Child care is a good one. Do you think a 24 year old dude would get the creepy face if he applied for work at a childrens daycare? Im willing to bet he would unless it was to be a grounds kepper or something. To take it to the extreme, there was a guy that sued hooters for not hiring him as a waiter based on his sex. Here. http://www.caller.com/news/2009/jan/13/local-man-sues-hooters-claims-gender-bias-seeks/ From the article: "Just as Southwest Airlines attempted nearly three decades ago with stewardesses, the waiter's position addressed herein is being limited to females by an employer..." the suit states If this happened to a women at any type of business there would be hell to pay for the company. Just sayin.

Something is wrong here
Less than 150 incompetent drivers died when a tire blew out and Firestone [the tires not the stores] became history. But everything is OK in the name of the "War on Terror". Front page paper today had a article the fire and ambulance people are being trained to "sniff out suspected terrorist and activities" -- http://www.caller.com/ Sad.....very sad.....but at my age I probably will not see The Big End(R) after 2016. [eat, drink, and be merry....for tomorrow you will die in a dungeon somewhere]

Re:NASA Has been in trouble for a whileOnce you strip the need to carry cargo, the shuttle suddenly shrinks. This actually makes too much sense, I wish it could be so. The fact is the shuttle was, is and unfortunately probably will continue to be a cash cow that is more politics than a workable solution. We do have heavy lift capability with rockets, though I think we can do better. The ISS still needs to be completed, and probably expanded for the addition of short term experiments. A new "shuttle" that has a primary function of transporting live people, docking with the ISS and being re-usable would be ideal. Because of the smaller agenda you could add many more safety featurs, including the beloved glider separation ( http://www.design-career.com/interior_design/deck
_ design/deck_design_msg15946/deck_design_msg15946.s html , here , here , ). I live in Houston, and the second shuttle disaster of my lifetime is even harder to take than the first. Especially when you are smart enough to know that it is entirely possible to avoid the accidents of the past. -
Re:airlines do it too.
Another article about the incident where it mentions that the passenger paid cash.

Re:He's not charged with obscene publication!
Because that's exactly what police departments everywhere are prone to believing, that they as professionals know who the law-abiders are and who the criminals are -- and that to arrest an 'obvious' wrong-doer like this kid, they shouldn't have to wait for a technicality such as him actually committing an arrestable offense.
You are correct in your assertion that the police want us to believe that they are infallible when it comes to identifying "criminals", but many of us know that some of the biggest criminals are wearing blue themselves. To tell you the truth, if I was innocent I would prefer a bogus arrest to the alternative any day...

Re:You are allowed...
Bush = BAD
O.K., go ahead and defend the idiot son of one of the worst presidents we have ever had. He has been one of the worst governors we have ever had (and Texas has had a lot of BAD Governors). Also, as Governor of Texas he has authorized arresting protestors. Slashdot says it is FOR free speech so I don't see where the problem is.
You just call it "Slashthink" because you cannot conceive that different people have different viewpoints than the narrow one you agree with. If you want a website that will agree with your "viewpoint" Slashdot is not it. Try this one --> Koalition for Konservative Kaucasians (a sanitized website whose intended audience is closet neo-Nazi's, not the overt kind).

[OT] Here are numbers for you. Here's a link to info about why the pro-capital-punishment governor of Illinois issued a moratorium on the death penalty in his state. Numbers? 12 people freed from death row in Illinois, more than have been executed, in the past two years.
Here's another couple of numbers for you: 12% of Americans are black, but 40% of death row inmates are black. Or how about these numbers: a black defendant is twice as likely to be executed (100 since 1973) if his victim is white than if is victim is black (49 since 1973). And a white defendant who kills a white person is 48 times more likely to be executed for killing a white person (242 since 1973) than for killing a black person (5 since 1973). Numbers are from the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
And here's a list of some wrongful executions that have taken place in the US in the 20th century. Admittedly, only one of the victims on the list was executed since 1973, when the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty should be reinstated.
There are numbers for you. Will they make any difference? I doubt it... no matter how many numbers people like you see, you want to see more. You'll go on blithely accusing anti-capital punishment types of not providing enough numbers, or the right numbers, or whatever. I look forward to your reply.

" Anyways, I'm sure that eventually you'll just have a DataJack in your head (just like in ShadowRun!) where you'll just plug in a cable and you're all set. "
Sounds like fun to me!

Whatever happened to McDonalds' robots?McDonalds announced it was going with kitchen robots in 1998 , and took a $125 million charge against earnings to finance it. But other than the original press release and some 1998 commentary, that whole project seems to have disappeared. Anyone know what happened?
The current leader in restaurant automation is probably Yo! Sushi in the UK, which has sushi-making robots and autonomous robot vehicles in the restaurants.
