  1. I wonder if a ceramic based enclosure might be better, it would be more eco/cheap

  2. I like that idea, except here in TX the rains only come around fall and spring and some years it can be hit and miss. I wonder if the epoxy will cause gaps to occur over time like who pool tiles start blistering off after a while....sorry I wasn't trying to be shoot down your idea, im sure mine is shit, at least yours was economically more plausible, lol.

  3. I just thought about double sealing it in a small container. The first layer filled with a compressed gas and the second filled with oil. Then have radiator tubes going through it and around, put a tiny 5 inch fan on the bottom so the breeze from the cars helps spin the fan, possible mount a heat sink on top...

I'm just imagining this thing built like a car radiator or computer heatsink, with the breeze off the road that should keep the fan going even with no electric, the pressurized gas + oil double seal should keep the components safe from the elements, fumes, bugs and debris and be a good indicator if the housing has been compromised (maybe have a pressure sensor inside to monitor that too).

  7. You are correct for the most part, however there is a downside to "At Will" in that they have to pay for your UE benefits for the next 6 months. So there is a financial loss associated with just firing an individual. There are limitations though, anything deemed illegal or discriminatory by a court (sexual harassment stuff, race and disabled discrimination, etc..).

I would imagine in this type of case there would be no problem winning a case like this, because I would imagine mandatory body mutilation to be a slam dunk argument for just about any court of law.

  8. He's not just a blowhard, he's an idiot. on Bill Nye: We Are Not Going To Live on Mars, Let Alone Turn It Into Earth (usatoday.com) · · Score: 4, Interesting

Antarctica is a pretty poor comparison as to why people don't settle there and make a living (there are these things called treaties, and they are worded in such as way to keep it as pristine as possible, limited personal and camp sizes, no mining, etc...).

He's also wrong about how much frozen water is available because truth be told no one knows for a matter of fact yet (but some argue there is actually a great deal locked away below ground).

There is nothing technically preventing people from living in a self sustained manner (from a constant resupply standpoint) so long as they are able to use the natural resources available on mars and have the energy they need (even if water reclamation is a major concern, it is possible to recycle most of the water needed).

Last but not least, exploration and pushing onward to new vistas is one of our defining traits. Ergo, I argue Bill Nye is no longer human. He was abducted after his tv show in the 90's and replaced with one of the prune people of planet asshole.

  9. This has been a long time coming and its just going to get worse for them. The price gouging and service fees, paying $120 a year for a control box that costs 5 bucks in hardware, 90% of the 150+ channels get are crap and you have still pay for "premium" movie channels...why would anyone be interested in paying for cable if you have an internet connections at this point unless you had too go through them?

  10. I got a little nostalgic too seeing Alvin still in operation. When I was a kid I was fascinated with the titanic ship wreck and the technology used to investigate it (and seeing pictures of Alvin associated with it).

Just for grins I looked up the wiki...all these years I had no idea the titanium pod could separate from the rest of the submersible in an emergency....cool.
