Re:6 cameras! That's awesome news!
If they can waste that much space in the phone that must mean that they have solved the problem of putting a replaceable battery in
You're solving two different problems. The problem isn't space.
put the charging port in a hard-to-destroy place
The charging port is exactly where it needs to be given the accessories we have for them.
and use enough solder to keep it in place
It's a charging port, not a lasso to swing your phone around wildly. Seriously you broke the charging point on your phone? I thought you people were a myth. May I recommend something more rugged
along with adding a few more plugs for SD-Cards and USB devices to attach
You seem to have a very particular set of problems.

Not the only one...
You have a very high bar for "interesting" or you just don't know...

Re:Still more ideas/features they could add
They could add infrared cameras, laser distance sensors, air quality sensors, and maybe a better way to adapt accessories to the phone such as a low powered connected hardware keyboard designed and produced by the manufacture.
The Caterpillar S61 phone does a number of those - FLIR camera, air particulate sensor, and a measuring app which does way more than just give you distance. It also has incredible battery life (mine has been sitting for over a week and still has over 50% battery), and is ruggedized to MILSPEC for being dropped (5' to concrete) and being underwater (10 feet for over an hour). In fact, you can even go into "underwater mode" which deactivates the touchscreen, and modifies the camera for underwater use.
Disclaimer: I love that fricking phone!

Re:We've reached peak Bells & Whistles
Personally I'd like a laser distance meter and a thermal camera, but I guess I could just buy a CAT S61.

iPhone too Delicate for Combat
The iPhone is made out of crystal and glass. It has a reputation for breaking after being dropped a few feet onto concrete. It's neither water nor dust resistant. There are many android phones out there and not all of them are bad. It seems to me that the Army would be much better off with something like the Caterpillar S40 rather than a glass bauble like the iPhone. The iPhone is a great consumer device, but it's completely unsuitable for combat operations in the field.

Only Apple can't make sapphire work.
Everybody who gets an iPhone immediately puts it into a rugged, generally rubberized, case.
That's pathetic. All that effort to make a super-thin device, and you have to put it another case to protect it. Nokia would laugh.
Get a non-toy phone.
It's amusing that Apple can't get sapphire-coated glass to work. Sapphire glass for checkout scanners is a standard product. Every Home Depot checkout scanner has sapphire-coated glass. People slide metal tools across those for years without damage.

Re:How about
I call nonsense on you. Perfect example: Waterproofing. It would be trivial to make a waterproof (or at least water resistant) phone. Yet there are none. In fact, just having your phone in a overly humid environment will likely ruin it. This is clearly by design.
There are plenty. Casio has a complete line of phones under the Gzone line (Warning- possibly the worst website I have ever seen). Catarpillar makes (or at least specs out and has someone make) one or two also.
The magic google words are "810g phone" (referring to the mil-spec) or "IP67 phone"
