The Fallacy of Tipping
Those that tip will always be less than the freeloaders. I don't think there can ever be a business model built on a system of tipping. Look at television - PBS begs and pleads for just a tuppance, while the other channels are awash in advertising and we get free entertainment. Advertising is here to stay - why pay when your friendly neighborhood corporation will pay for you?

Who Wins? The Lawyers
Just like in the tobacco and firearms lawsuits, these cases come up looking like consumer advocacy but they're nothing more than a front for greedy lawyers who get a massive cut of the money from these settlements.

Re:Corpocracy: End to Freedom.
Incorrect. Over 50% of Americans own stock either directly or through a mutual fund/401K. So, yes, a rising stock market does benefit "all the boats" when stock ownership is so widespread.

Windows is easy
I know you guys hate to admit it, but a standard Win 95/98 setup is easy to install and operate. Its fine to stress Linux's strengths (ease of use ain't one of 'em), but don't be ridiculously biased...

Re:And this is some suprise?
Cause and effect: people don't want to waste their time with a 4k/second host when they can download 4 files from a DSL or Cable host at 20k/sec each instead.
This is my pov. I refused to share files when I was on a 56k cause it would kill everything. Now that I'm on a cable modem, I work just fine with 2-3 downloads in progress. I think there will always be freeloaders, but the problem will be much less when the bandwith comes.

Re:Is Gnutella really that hard?
Exactly. We need a GUI. Point and click - boom.

How can we keep the movement going?
Napster will probably be shut down soon, and for all of the less experienced net users out there, their pipeline to MP3s will be closed. But uneccesarily so.
The problem is that Gnutella, Freenet, etc. as powerful as they are, are NOT easy to use for the unsavvy. This is where Napster excelled. It's point and click. I would be very interested if we (the tech community) came together to modify the existing file sharing systems to make them easy to use for Joe Average.
My fear is that if it isn't done quickly, the force of Napster may be lost and the average web user will be doomed to micropayments. What do y'all think?

Sports Games Goin' Strong
I know the core geek audience dislikes 'em but the sports genre chugs along at a decent clip every year, helped by better graphics and also the great detail allowed by web updates. Viva Madden!

Re:What is the deal with Delware?
Delaware doesn't charge corporations taxes and has a lot of laws that are titled in corporation's favor in regards to litigation.

Episode I's Title Made No Sense
"The Phantom Menace" - they never explained it in the movie and seems to me to be an obscure fanboy reference. At least New Hope, Strikes Back and Jedi were easily explained...

Re:Logically sounds like a Hoax.Don't forget that there was a complete hoax name for Jedi. I can't remember what it was, but I recall that there were hats and jackets made to fool the press...
The bogus name was "Revenge of the Jedi"

Re:Whoop D Dooo
I think its a misnomer to call the original 3 "epic". The Star Wars trilogy is nothing more than a highly entertaining summer "popcorn" movie. I hate the fact that Star Wars fans want to make it out to be "deep & dark" and "epic". Just enjoy the damn movie, it ain't rocket science...

Advertising may go to "soccer" method
When ABC/ESPN started showing World Cup Soccer, they ran into the problem that soccer is continuous without timeouts and breaks like football/basketball/hockey. They found away around by rotating "banners" in the corner of the screen for a certain time period with the various advertisers. I can see this happening with all programming when its time shifted. They'll probably end up adding audio and animation to them as well too.

Good AMERICAN Animation
It's fashionable to beat up on Disney, and while their stories sometimes make concessions to their core audience (little kids) some of the best animation is coming out of the house that Walt built. Especially Tarzan, The Lion King, and Dinosaur. Next summer's Atlantis looks even more promising.
Also from Disney/Pixar is the excellent Toy Story series, combining quality animation with a fantastic story.
