    Fraud and abuse? Well, no Scientology discussion can be complete without a link to Bare Faced Messiah, the unauthorised biography of L. Ron Hubbard. It is very interesting stuff. The man lived recently enough that there are plenty of verifiable historical facts about him, and he was certainly an extraordinary guy.

    Any Scientologists reading this topic have no doubt already heard about Bare Faced Messiah and the lies contained within it, invented (of course) by the Church's enemies in order to discredit Hubbard and his ideas. To you I say: what if your perception of reality is wrong? What if you have been lied to, that a sort of Matrix has been built around you by your friends and colleagues at the Church? Wouldn't you at least like to see what other people's reality looks like? No need to take any pills, the truth might be a click away...

    I wouldn't hold the ability to predict conflicts between man, especially those involving land disputes, as anything great or praiseworthy. I mean, man has been fighting man since the begining of time, and the big brawls are always over territorial rights.

    Of course, then we have to look at who's doing the predicting. A meglomaniacal science fiction writer who lived on an ocean liner with his cult of followers (was convinced the US government was out to get him) trying to get in touch with the ancient alien in themselves (?, check it out, it's actually much more cooky than I can even attempt to explain).

    Here's someone who found his niche as a science fiction writer, but just wasn't content to stop there. He went for the gusto, the full-on messianic mission. The history books might remember him as a good writer, more likely he'll be infamous as the leader of a wayward cult.

    Which religions would be decimated by the discovery of Martian life, exactly? Christianity I'm generally familiar with, and I know a few things about Islam and Buddism... but I don't know of any religion-ending problems with those. Scientology might actually get a boost. :)

    Please elaborate on which beliefs of which religions are set to tumble, I'm genuinely curious.

    In the past year or so I think Scientology has been putting the screws on its celebrity members to speak out publicly in its favor. Up until then they avoided any mention of it, but I've noticed lately they're all yapping about how wonderful scientology is and how much it has helped them. What a bunch of fucktards. If you have any doubts, check out http://www.clambake.org/ for the truth about scientology. Their "teachings" are so moronic it's scary. Poor Tommy paid something like half a million smackeroos (probably a lot more) to progressively learn the story of Xenu, the evil alien overlord, and its sticky engram traps. How can anybody have any respect for this spectacularly idiotic man?

    I'm reading the replies to your post and can understand where they're coming from. The problem they have is that they have minimal exposure at most to Scientology. My mother tried to raise me Christian and I ended up Atheist. Anyone who tries to compare Scientology to Christianity truly doesn't understand. To those that would like a better understanding and read a fascinating history of a cult, I recommend you read A Piece of Blue Sky.

    The Church of Scientology has already threatened Google and gotten results moved; I can, in all honesty, see the RIAA going for it.

    It would be an earthshattering case, but here's the thing: the RIAA stands a disturbingly good chance of winning.

    I hope, I pray they don't were they to try it- and try they most certainly will, because they think they can get money out of the lawsuit and they want money. That's very likely a major motive.

    I work for a company that is literally ran by $cientologists. They are dirty dirty people!!!

    They require us to take these courses that are based off of L. Ron Hubbards business strategy and they are WEIRD. They portray L. Ron Hubbard as a god in these "business" books.

    Another weird thing is how we all have to use this weird terminology around the office. The word "hat" means "job".. My "hat" is to fix stuff, for example. That's just one example, there are a lot of things, but this is how the religion works too.

    They require their followers (or whatever they're called) to take courses, which costs thousands of dollars. They have a lot of their own terminology, which is meant to make people become interested in $cientology.

    I think level 8 is the highest rank in their religion and when you reach that point you supposedly have mind control powers. You learn about the "lord" xenu (who is an alien who put us all here on earth, which is a slave planet.. or something) by Level 3.

    Their so called "religion" (i call it a cult) is very secretive until you join. You're not supposed to know what xenu is until Level 3, and the reason is, is anybody that isn't retarded would realize that us being put here by a god named xenu from some other planet is absurd. By Level 3 you're already so brainwashed that you'll believe that shit.

    I picked most of this info up from either people here at work or operation clambake (which is the same as xenu.net).
