Re:Good news, but
I googled it, and I discover
"The Eureka rebellion is considered by some historians to be the birthplace of Australian democracy. It is the only Australian example of armed rebellion leading to reform of unfair laws. The Southern Cross flag has been used as a symbol of protest by organisations and individuals at both ends of the political spectrum."
Sounds foundational to me. Why shouldn't it count, just because the rebels mostly weren't born in Oz?

Re:US Citizens only
Here's a probably dumb question.
Is transoceanic travel by ship feasible anymore? I've always wanted to visit Australia, and have always hated airports, etc. Are there still ships you can do that on?
Yes, and it's surprisingly cheap. Goto the UK, steal a loaf of bread, and voila!

Re:Mohammed and the Han
In the last two millenia I don't know of any country that waged war with Australia and attempted to invade them. The aussies were involved in wars as a part of the british empire but it was alwasy in far off places.
How about Japan? -
Re:Most disturbing.....
Also consider the Aboriginal peoples of Australia. Their culture is thoughtto have lasted anywhere between 50,000-150,000 years (and still counting...)
Though, that is an extreme case... -
Re:wait, that doesnt make senseWasn't australia FOUNDED by outlaws?
Technically Oz was founded by Brits (just like the US), first as a penal colony when the prison ships anchored on the Thames started to stink up the London gentry's riverside properties. Later waves of immigration (mainly in Victoria) accompanied the Australian gold rush. Of course, long prior to this there was a wave of immigration during the melanesian expansion that led to the Aboriginal population.
Anyways.... I personally am rather surprised that the Aussie government is complaining about GTA; after all, they have a fine tradition of road warrior fiction.
