Re:The popularity of Oregon Trail
Funnily enough, I'm wearing the second shirt right now. It's a Busted Tees shirt, and they're currently running sale and have a coupon.

The rounds.
http://www.xkcd.com/ - Fun, nerdy webcomic.
http://forums.somethingawful.com/ - Has likely the best general automotive and games forums around.
http://www.dealmein.net/ / http://www.slickdeals.net/ / http://www.bensbargains.net/ - The sites that post deals every day have gotten me some awesome bargains in the past.
http://news.google.com/ - Duh.

Re:Reviews
Does netflix rent games yet?
No, but Gamefly does, and they've got a 21-day free trial promotion running. -
Re:Prepare to be toppled!
I actually have just the opposite experience. I see TONS of things on Amazon that are cheaper than anywhere else (proof [note, some are probably expired]) since they have low prices and a lot of exclusive promotions and rebates. I've rarely waited more than a few days for anything to be shipped, and once it had, I've gotten it quite quickly (then I got Prime, and now it's even more amazing). Incidentally, I *DO* only order things that come from Amazon themselves, so that may be where the difference lies.
This isn't a small sample size, either. I've ordered hundreds of things from them. Only been let down a couple times, and they made it right. I know I sound like a total shill right now, but I'm really just a huge Amazon whore. -
Re:The problem is vastly different capabilities
while 512 MB of flash memory may still have a decent price tag associated with it whey you're buying them by the Million they're reasonably inexpensive.
Considering you can get 1GB cards for $10 retail, I'd say that the price is pretty much trivial. -
Re:Nostalgia, Anyone?
I'm not even going to get into fatwallet.com...
It's too bad fatwallet is full of bastards who would sell their mother out for a quarter.
Use some other, less-evil sites instead:
http://www.dealmein.net/
http://www.slickdeals.net/
http://www.techbargains.com/
http://www.bensbargains.net/ -
Don't forget bargain-spotting sites
In UK http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/
In US http://www.dealmein.net/
Basically people sharing bargains they spotted, misprices on websites, etc.
-
Re:Great Deals?
The problem with Fatwallet is that the signal-to-noise ratio is WAY too small, and good deals get buried constantly just because of all the other crap that is posted.
I much prefer a "highlights"-style site such as DealMeIn.net. -
One more coupon/rebate site....
http://dealmein.net/
A lot of online coupons/rebates from consumer electronics to kitchenware. Pretty nifty site. -
dealmein watchs both and more
I use an rss feed from http://www.dealmein.net/ People pitch in a find deals then post them. Sometimes you see FUD or ill considered postings but on the whole its really useful in the non-ebay world.

Re:Does this happen much?
I've never noticed it either, and I deal with prices for around 4-5 hours daily. The "deals community" would notice pretty quickly if something like that were the case.
So if it does happen, it's not at any stores that are worth shopping at. -
Re:Are CRTs on the way out?
I bought a Dell 2005FPW (20.1" wide screen, 1680x1050 resolution, 12ms response rate). I paid $407.85 for the monitor and a 5-pack of CD-RW discs (The discs brought the total over a minimum for an extra discount.
Watch http://www.dealmein.net/ every day for a month or so, and you'll find a similar deal.
I like mine... I noticed ghosting problems when I ran those LCD tests that are designed to show such problems, but don't usually notice a problem when actually gaming... -

Re:Essentially free?
DealMeIn.Net (ran by a fellow slashdotter) and other sites like it frequently have low-end consumer grade wireless equipment for free or almost free after rebates.

Re:Hate to be a spoilsport but...
Actually, Amazon DOES frequently have incredible deals that are completely legitimate. They have exclusive rebates (like the $100 off Apple notebooks one), great coupon codes (a couple months ago they had a $29 off $129 order coupon in their Kitchen section, they've also had buy 1 get 1 free on board games and buy 2 get 1 free on video games), often give out free promotional certificates or gifts with purchases of certain things, etc.
As someone who runs a site dedicated to great deals, I think I'm qualified to say that Amazon is a godsend to people looking to save money. -
Ooh me me me!
I hear there's this website called DealMeIn.net that's really good!
