Re:Chrome on Debian?
Yes. See this.

Re:They are selling six versions.....
I think that a lot of people will wait till XP support dies before wanting to switch.
I was just thinking about the Ubuntu family of versions Desktop, server, AMD64 desktop, AMD64 server, Kubuntu and how many more? Yes, I know some are based on Ubuntu like Ubuntu is based on Debian. I wonder how much confusion there is over Linux distros for end users, and can they see any difference between the Linux distros and the Win7 and Vista family trees.
I look forward to Ubuntu desktop, home premium media center edition. NOT! But wait, there's more!
All this bitching about MS and then see that page of Ubuntu versions, hmmm... they must have a large supply of chairs 'handy' in Redmond.

What did you think that key with the menu box on it was for?

Re:Within the retail sector...
I'm 99% sure that Ubuntu or Debian people can do similar things with DEBs. Of course, the downside with the package approach is you have to have one package per distro (take a look at Skype; skype isn't in any linux repositories, but it supplies 4-5 RPMs and a binary tarball).
Skype offers an APT repository for Debian and Ubuntu users:
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/repositories.html
And so do many other companies. For example, Google also provides an APT repository:
http://www.google.com/linuxrepositories/apt.html
Thanks to Synaptic, adding a new repository to Ubuntu is pretty easy, even for your average user. -
Re:Yes
...nothing to click? So what are all these screenshots?. What you've said is that you tried to do something non-standard, didn't take adequate precautions to be able to repair it, and it broke your computer. Do you change BOOT.INI options in Windows willy-nilly? I fail to see how it's Ubuntu's fault that it didn't keep you from breaking your computer by doing something stupid. Do you also randomly replace the gas in your car with diesel to try to get it to run faster?

Re:My Ubuntu Experience
Install KDE and you get Konqueror, arguably the most powerful and efficient file manager
.... even mac users envy it ... and it's easy to install on Ubuntu.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingKDE/ and here:

the short of it is:
apt-get install kubuntu-desktop -
Re:Ubuntu
Why is Ubuntu in that list? I may be misinformed, but it was my understanding that Ubuntu was based off of Debian.
You're not misinformed, although the author may still have a point of including it on the list of base distributions. There's a slew of Linux distributions based on Ubuntu. Still, you're right. The grandpappy of them all is Debian.
Here's a fairly comprehensive list of these distributions. -

Re:WPA is horrible in Ubuntu
Not quite so easy. Hardly impossible, but something so basic should be automatically configured when installing in the first place.

Re:Why (Re:Microsoft developer community?)
wireless bridge and ubuntu wpa instructions (assuming you have the right hardware, if you don't, you won't *ever* gett it running).
http://www.debianadmin.com/enable-wpa-wireless-acc ess-point-in-ubuntu-linux.html
i also am upset about lack of wpa support, but i'm not upset with linux or OSS devs. that's dumb. it is the h/w mfrs that screw over the linux distros by not making drivers - or at least allowing the OSS devs to do so.
are you mad at a rock or the guy who threw it at you? you sound like the kinda guy who'd be mad at the rock.
good luck. -
