African Environment
Here's a shot I took the other night of the sky here in the south east of Africa. Sorry it's small (internet here ain't cheap, hehe) but the clouds and trees show that those are real stars in the sky not just sensor noise. enjoy, http://edified.org/external/africa-stars.jpg

Re:no hd?
The point is establishing the distributions system and the licensing.
Higher Resolution will come, HD even.
But first this has to be.

It Works!
It works...on a Mac- you can use the app Grab or just CMD-Shift-4 then press space. This will turn your cursor into a camera- hover over the window you want and click. The screencap is a png bounded by the window that includes all the transparent niceties like anti-aliasing to clear on rounded corners, drop shadows and transparency (try a transparent terminal window!). You can even snap windows that aren't focused or windows that are occluded and it will get the whole thing. Try it on Dashboard Widgets and Dock Icons too.
Pretty Handy. I'd be surprised if there isn't a way to do this in Windows Vista (since aero presumably doesn't use old school screen buffering)- though it may require some shareware. Good luck!

Dude looks like The Crow
"People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right."

I probably shouldn't be calling people emo while listening to My Chemical Romance... -

Make is visible!
Here's an example of how you might comply- just make the text visible, then you're providing the same opportunity for both blind and seeing. Check out the comment section on the bottom of this page (Optical Illusion) or this page (Pumpkin Carving).
This is a fun topic for me 'cause I've been experimenting for the past 2 months. I've written a pretty simple filter that rates text and links. Most of the time form-spam has keywords in it because that's what the spammers want- live links that have their keywords. It works for now, I don't expect it to work forever. Anyway I mostly avoid captchas.
Two weeks ago I started collecting statistics about what is getting tagged spam and how it got caught. Yesterday alone 103 attempts were made (by various botnets as is apparent form their IPs) and 103 messages were filtered out immediately. -Ed -

Almost true...That's almost true but there are a few companies getting better. For MacOS, Linux, Solaris or Windows you might consider Cepstral.
If you're a Mac user you'll be looking forward to Alex, the new voice included in 10.5.
Anyway to keep this all on the topic of pumkins, here's my geometrically correct soccerball pumpkin.Happy Halloween All.

Two years eh?My 2 year agreement will be up in March. I've never considered using Verizon's data network or "Get it Now" because it's too friggin expensive. They charge like $2.99 to download ONE SONG in something that sounds like 64kbs 22kHz played from a tin can (I work with youth who buy this garbage). Anyway point being if any provider lets me sync my music library to my phone either via cable or on free airtime, I'll switch. I don't even care who I have to switch to. In California ever tower is licensed by every company; all the prices are essentially the same.
It doesn't matter. I don't care. I'll switch. And I bet there's a lot of people just like me.

It's a conspiracy!
important investigation of a coverup in Congress yesterday?
Yes, North Korea is doing nuclear tests to draw press away from the investigation. You're right, it's a Republican conspiracy. Or maybe nuclear tests in North Korea isn't news worthy.

Not Moot
You're right- it's not moot. Here's another reason- there's been so many times where I've pulled data off a fried compy for a friends and guess what? WMP-DRM is enabled by default- unless we can get Windows to boot and back up licenses they have the pleasure of reripping their entire CD collection. Headache. Now that license transfers are encumbered- yeah well, I'll start by says "sorry, your music is gone."
On the other side of things it also means that every time a friend installs iTunes I get the question can I put all my stuff from WMP into iTunes. By default Microsoft makes that answer no. I think there's an MP3 option in WMP now but it's not the default (maybe I'm giving MS too much credit) but in any case DRM is on by default. "Protect My Music" ???? Protect it from me maybe.
I think it's just a case of MS wanting to make it a headache fro anyone to switch away from the WMP cartel. At least in iTunes (iTS aside) the default encoder in non-encumbered AAC. There's many devices that play unencumbered AAC and anyone can add it with a simple codec (no headaches!). More proof that the music industry isn't pushing MS to do this- they just want it to be a pain for you to switch to iTunes.

Instant Gratification
and are willing to pay for it and take the trouble to rip it."
It's never been any trouble to rip a CD- and usually not even to get artwork. The only real appeal (for me) of iTMS over used CD's on Amazon is instant gratification. That means I get to listen to a song as soon as I decide to buy it. Some times a friend will com over and say "have you ever heard 'X' " then we usually muddle over how it went, then I usually plunk down my 99 cents to get it now on iTunes; even if there's a good change I'll buy the whole CD later.
Thats the total appeal for me. Same with the movie store- the appeal is that I can get it now.

Hacking the ZuneI can't believe no one has brought up hacking the Zune. What if someone could flash it with firmware that doesn't on-the-fly DRM encode shared files? Far fetched? Maybe...
How long before The Zune is running Linux. What follows? Whatever you want.
Anyway- I'll stick to my iPod, and Used CDs from Amazon iTunes+AAC. -
Hooray! Cheaper at the same price point!
Editors? We don't need no stinking editors!

Apple Remote
I just yesterday realized why I like the Apple Remote so much. It's because I can use it without looking. I know where all the buttons are and I know what they do. I don't have to look or think.
You're right: Common Man.

ExampleIn some bacteria the enzyme photolyase works to repair thymine dimers (from UV DNA damage) but requires light in the visible spectrum.
It's probably a protein with a magnetic ligand that requires a specific energy to activate. Of course I wouldn't actually read the article.

Re:Glad to be an American.I think this is an important bit left out of the summary [emph mine]
"We found no instances of forced overtime and employees confirmed in interviews that they could decline overtime requests without penalty . We did, however, find that employees worked longer hours than permitted by our Code of Conduct, which limits normal workweeks to 60 hours and requires at least one day off each week."
Looks like lots of overtime may be due to the overriding social/economic climate. These are the people who want to work 7 days a week (probably to support a family living elsewhere). Not saying it's right- but there's a lot more to the story.
God bless the people.
