Re:New Trend?
Oh, you mean the powerbook.
Once again, Apple is ahead of the curve.

Re:I Hope[DUH
... hit submit before I finished ...]Another interesting reference is an article preview from Electronic Design Betamax vs. VHS - the verdict is still out. by Peter Fletcher.
I have to admit to not reading the whole article, but even in the preview, it states It turns out Beta did have the higher performance of the two. There's a book reference "Newnes Television & Video Engineers' Pocket Book" by Eugene Trundle which contains the various specifications.Anyway, my perception is still that Betamax was better than VHS technologically, but I only have hearsay to back it up as I don't have a copy of Eugene's book, and even if I did, I probably wouldn't understand it!
If someone can post proof that I am wrong, I am more than happy to stand corrected, but until that point I'm afraid my hearsay is better than yours!

Re:They're called "plans"...
Lars,
Why don't you try educating yourself with a few pieces of information instead of relying on ideology? You will be less likely to look foolish. If you don't like the sources, the facts are generally available elsewhere.
Here are a few hints for further research:
- Invaded 2 countries
- Attacked 2 other
- Threatened a fifth country
- Killed about a million Muslims
- Filling mass graves at a rate of 10-30,000/year
- Used Weapons of Mass Destruction on own people
- Initiated use of Weapons of Mass Destruction after invading neighbor
- Tried to assassinate former US President
- Tried to shoot down US aircraft hundreds of times
- Supported terrorists in the Middle East and elsewhere
- Defied UN sanctions
- Defied UN Security Council demands
- Fed people into paper shredders
- Tried to restart banned weapons programs
- Tortured, murdered, and raped as part of state policy
- Kept a large prison solely for children
- Tortured children in front of parents to make them talk
- Looted the country of on the order of $40,000,000,000
- Built lavish palaces with money UN permitted for food and medicine
- Violated cease-fire terms
- Committed numerous acts of war
- Committed numerous war crimes
All in all, a regime only the hard left, anti-Semites, or a weird Arabist could defend.
Are you one of them, or simply ignorant?
Cheers

Sony's plant was also destroyed by fire...
From this article:
Macworld : More PowerBook 5300 woes: battery, power, and circuitry flaws. (Product Support) : Lu, Cary
More than any previous PowerBooks, Apple's most recent high-end model has been plagued with a host of troubles. First, Apple replaced the lithium-ion (LiIon) batteries it had begun to ship with 5300-series PowerBooks (see News, December 1995) because two of the Sony-made batteries had caught fire. Now , ironically , Sony's LiIon battery-producing plant in Koriyama , Japan , has itself been destroyed by fire. The Koriyama facility produced 3 million LiIon batteries a month (about three-quarters of the world's supply) , and Sony's second LiIon plant , in Tochigi , Japan , won't be operational until the spring. Thus , even if Sony figures out what went wrong with the LiIon batteries , no new ones will be available until at least mid-year. So Apple will have no choice but to continue shipping 5300-series PowerBooks with nickel-metal- hydride (NIMH) batteries , which it began doing when it resumed PowerBook shipments. -
Re:Gee,What next, will Jon be tried as a terrorist?
That's actually quite a real possibility.

Re:I let this particular parody get to me ....Take a look at his previous work... (1998 and talking about portals) here, 2002 and more portals. How many damn classes can you teach about web portals? Those who cannot do, teach..
.. Here's a debrief from EduCAUSE that summarizes some of his ideas -
- No more institution centric home page
- There should only be one portal. (don't want the students using Yahoo! or Excite - we want them to use our portal)
- There must exist -complete- customization available to the user. Otherwise, they will continue to use another portal that allows them to do what they want.
- Replaces your desktop
Congrats Howard, get your closed source, proprietary formats working together. GOD this guy is listed as a futurist! Here's another damn article about portals in 2015. JEEZ give it a break. -
Re:I don't get it...
The databases they are talking about are sites like eLibrary that simply have arrangements with all the world's periodicals to archive their articles. eLibrary then charges a fee to access their collection of old articles.

Re:How objective is www.linuxsucks.com?Oh, and for those too lazy to read my writeup, I figure I'll make life easy for yas =p From my Journal:
"Well, I just couldn't believe the insanity of this claim, so I did some research. Turns out Infospace, Inc does own linuxsucks.com. However, it was originally owned by Go2Net (scroll down to the bottom), and Go2Net was bought by Infospace Inc in 2000, so the domain is now hosted by Infospace Inc/Go2Net. Go2Net offers hosting, and is therefore hosting the site as a subsidiary of Infospace Inc; it has been hosting LinuxSucks.com since before Infospace Inc's acquisition.
Hence, LinuxSucks.com is an amateur effort; it was neither created, nor funded my Infospace Inc, nor was it created or funded by Microsoft.
As for Microsoft's supposed ties to Infospace Inc? Microsfot did a case study of Infospace Inc's use of "Microsoft Message Queing 3.0", and how it "Reduces Costs While Improving Reliability at InfoSpace". Hardly the deep, cash infused ties this tin-foil hat wearing zealot implies.
Sorry, but that was just SO moronic I couldn't stand it."

He didn't need to be there, assfucker.
Jeffereson did not put anything into the Constitution. He was not even present at the convention, but was in Paris, as the U. S. envoy.
Perhaps you need a history lesson, my friend. Jefferson and Madison (the "master builder" of the Constitution) communicated via letters while Jefferson was in Paris. It is widely agreed upon in academic circles that Jefferson had a great deal of input into the Constitution, despite his conspicuous absence from the actual Constitutional Convention.

NPR, Read it Instead...Yeah, I like NPR a lot, but their webmonkeys all seem to be beginners.
For you linear types: ELibrary has transcripts of all the NPR shows that get transcribed. Paid access site, but cheaper and faster than ordering a transcript from the network.
