Re:Interesting...
I agree. Now that he has leaked the biggest revelations yet to the Iranians he is in really deep doodoo. Even the space aliens will be after him.

Politics, not Snowden, and "human smuggling"
It should be noted that 'people smuggling' isn't related to slavery; it's the politicised term for the people who help refugees get to Autralia. The efforts to stop people smugglers are about the current Australian government's (xenophobic) anti-refugee policies; they're the result of domestic politics, not a cooperative effort to stop human trafficking.
It's not actually xenophobia when you attempt to enforce your national borders.
The situation between Indonesia and Australia is similar to the situation between Mexico and the U.S., where the Mexican government in some cases actually busses illegals to the U.S. border in order to aid their illegal immigartion into the U.S.. While most illegals are economic refugees, the bussing mostly involved "undesirables" in Mexico, which included Mexican criminals, but more frequently were refugees from Guatamala and El Salvador, which Mexico preferred to make "not their problem". PBS did a documentary on this a while back:
http://www.pbs.org/itvs/beyondtheborder/immigration.html
The "cooperation" being negotiated in this case is primarily dealing with people using Indonesia as a transit point, and less so export of Indonesian "bad apples", just as with the U.S. (although Indonesia will happily export locally grown Al Qaeda to get rid of them). A significant number of these come from the Middle East, including a large portion of them from Iraq, and to a lesser extent, Lebanon. Here are some examples:
http://www.niqash.org/articles/?id=3308
http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13920705000600One of the agreements being negotiated has been buying unused boats which could be made sufficiently seaworthy to get from Indonesia to Australia:
http://qz.com/118198/australias-election-frontrunner-thinks-buying-broken-indonesian-boats-will-stave-off-asylum-seekers/
...but it benefits Tony Abbot's opponents to find ways to undermine that plan as much as possible, and it benefits Indonesian politicians to be complicit in that, and seize on any excuse, lest the illegal immigrant refugees end up stuck in Indonesia instead (Indonesia doesn't want them either). So at this point, it's largely an argument between the mostly empty regions of Australia and the more densely populated regions (analogous to the red state/blue state U.S. division that had Arizona enforcing immigration laws that the U.S. federal government would not).So basically, politics, not Snowden.

Re:..came on..
Did you actually read the article? The press release referred to in the summary and in the actual news articles (not the forum post you refer to) give current dates. The press release is for May 23, 2012. So, unsurprisingly, the reverse engineering for 40 year old tech has taken some time and has been continuously documented for at least the past few years but, CURRENTLY, Iran is claiming to be releasing it. That is news.

Re:Is Iran really such a threat?
So you are saying the Fars News Agency, an Iranian web site, is actually a US media site and was founded by a former adviser to Dick Cheney? Because the very first link in the Yahoo web page I originally included points to it. Perhaps I should have used that link originally, but I thought the Yahoo web site did a better job of fleshing out the story.
But you are welcome to begin believing that even native Farsi speakers are unable to translate correctly, because the following is obviously a mistranslated peace overture: "The Zionist regime is a real cancerous tumor that should be cut and will be cut, God Willing," Ayatollah Khamenei underscored.

Re:Today's dose of fearmongering...
Of course they wouldn't want to kill the Jews in Iran. The Jews in Iran are a major deterrent to any Israeli military action. They are hostages. They cannot leave Iran and cannot have any contact with Israel. To the extent they openly support the Iranian regime they do so to avoid the obvious consequences. The Jews in Terezin had great things to say about the Nazis too, and the red cross inspectors found nothing out of the ordinary when they visited. Having token jews is a great thing for Iran, strategically. It allows them to pretend it's just about "Zionism". If you want a more open and honest viewpoint of what Iran's agenda is, look at those of their proxies. Notice the rhetoric is directed sharply against the Jews as a whole and not just "Zionists".
As far as that article goes, yes WND was the first to report it, but it was later run on Iranian state websites, such as Fars News Agency. Here's a link. No, they didn't publish it in English for obvious reasons, but even with Google translate you can get the gist of what they're trying to say. Many other news outlets covered it as well -- though perhaps not the ones you read. You catch the "cancer" comment last month, or did that one pass you by as well?

Re:Oops!
US district court is NOW saying Iran did 9/11
I'm seriously surprised they are leaving Pakistan for the dessert... Could that be because India is friends with Iran as of late?

Odd
What a difference in detail

I am dismayed at Israels constant call for war against Iran when it will be Americans fighting the war not the IDF, I wonder how much war rhetoric they would be spouting if the US didn't back them up.

Re:This smells of propoganda.
Here in the US, we are so stupid to think that Iran scientists and government have nothing better to do than sit around a table and come up with stories to tell the world; for no purpose or goal at all?
*snicker* Ok. I'll bite. How's that cure for AIDS coming along?

Re:Stupid slashdot editors
The Fars article ITSELF refers to it as being home-made. Article linked from the summary: http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=8912250816.

Re:So...
The comments from Assange make it clear that WikiLeaks is not just acting as a repository, but rather clearly targeting organizations (governmental, commercial, etc.)
This makes no sense. Assange is targeting "organizations"? Governments and commercial organizations? Of course he has leaked some information about organizations. So what?
Or are you alleging that Assange is running some kind of targeted intelligence gathering operation? That he is actually out there, hacking the banks personally, or has recruited others to do so on his behalf? It seems a bit far-fetched; it's more likely that he is just leaking stuff that people send him, in which case the "targeting" is out of his hands.
Or are or you alleging that Assange is just a front for some intelligence organization? Hmm: Pakistani General accuses Wikileaks of being part of CIA/Mossad psyops. Maybe. John Young of Cryptome also accused Wikileaks of being a CIA front. And some Chinese officials have apparently said the same. But if it is a CIA front, does that mean that opposing Wikileaks is unpatriotic?
See how deep the rabbit hole goes....

wait, couldn't they fix it with one of these

Re:Left out the best part
On top of that, they lack the ground/air/satellite based communications infrastructure necessary to operate a UAV/cruise missile remotely; which is the only way they could put bombs on target without detailed aerial imagery of the flight path. In the end this is only slightly more advanced than a V-1 and that's assuming the stories and videos are legit. Given Iran's tendency to announce bogus advances I wouldn't be too worried about this thing unless they also have access to a really big slingshot.

Re:Is common to have these kinds of reactions
Here is what is considered a credible threat for that part of the world.
-
Wrong
Ok, then here it is from the Fars News Agency, Iran's supposedly "independent" news agency:
Iran Introduces AIDS Cure
And here's one from the Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran's state news agency:
Iran discovers formula to cure AIDS
That good enough for you, or do you want to keep thinking it's a propaganda game against innocent little Iran? -
Re:Consume with several grains of salt
Actually the Fars News Agency does have a release in Farsi, though not in English.

It was Iran..
They did claim recently to have a cure for aids..
TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- After 7 long years of arduous work, Iranian scientists here on Saturday introduced a herbal medicine which cures Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
