Reminds one of another New York street sign shame
Reminds me that the last time such a directive came down from DOT, New York City . Which was a bit of a shame. A minor issue in the grand scheme of things but just another sign of the marching blandicization of modern society.

Actually in New York street vents are all over the place. Knowing what street vents are separates the real NYers (and civil engineers) from the rest.

I've walked most of the Corridor and biked the length of the Motor Parkway in Queens.
I used to walk the Woodhaven/Rockaway line years ago, it's really falling apart now.
I'm a huge fan of hidden and forgotten New York, and I found a great resource called Forgotten NY.
The great thing about the Google Satellite maps is how easy it is to find the old ROWs and follow them around. -
