Re:gimmicks?

And they are paid by Ubisoft, but don't let that make you think they're not really gamers. I've spent time with a few of them, and about half are members of the PMS Clan - they're serious gamers who happened to get a job where they get paid to do gaming stuff. A friend of mine tried out for them, and would have made it were she not already busy with her helicopter lessons - and she kicks serious gaming ass.
They also won the Ghost Recon tournament at PAX in 2005. -
Re:Two things:
Some females play video games. We've gotten that for YEARS; it's about as revolutionary at this point as minorities going to college.
I find the Fragdolls website sort of amusing. It seems to do nothing but promote a few girls who play video games.. What else do they do?.. well they're semi-attractive 20-somethings, of course.. just look at their profiles, it's an amature modeling site.
That's unlike any clan I've ever been in. Most of the people in clan [DXM] were so overweight I doubt they could even stand upright for a whole photoshoot..
Their site is paid for by ubisoft, and I wouldn't be surprised if they make a bit on the side so they can devote more time to gaming and attracting males to specific areas such as x-box live games.
And what kind of "serious gamer" puts x-box as their mainstay? Last time I checked, half the genres out there are nearly unplayable without a mouse.
I'd imagine this type of thing would deter more women to play games than anything else.
I could be wrong though, I know when my girlfriend played Battlefield 2 she was all about flirting with the other team to get them to type more than play. We'd win nearly every round. -

Re:pointless
Not hard to find the Frag Dolls, but I suppose that would ruin precious trolling...

Re:Bring on the Game Booth Boy Babes
You mean, like these gamers? (SFW)

Re:Interesting article, but...
Could it be because they're not actually that great when it comes to gaming? Could it be that, *gasp*, like some other gaming groups and clans of females, they're really just hired models, funded by a corporation, designed to invoke the "oh, HOT!" response in the male crowd?
Find yourself a chance to play with some of the top girls in our clan, and say that again. After you've been seriously pwn3d, that is.
While being great at gaming is not a requirement to get into PMS (though a good attitude and sportsmanship IS), there are plenty of gals in PMS that seriously can kick some ass. And even those of us who aren't quite as amazingly good are still serious hard-core gamers. We're in the clan because we love gaming, and love having a bunch of other girls to play with instead of having to deal with masses of braindead idiots out there.
And BTW, if you're suggesting that the Frag Dolls are just hired models, think again - 3 of them are PMS members (one is the other founder of PMS), and they are far from hired models. I watched them win the GR2 tourney at PAX, for instance. -
Re:Interesting article, but...
The Frag Dolls are a small, high-profile, sponsored clan. I wasn't using it as a derogatory remark towards the sort of girls so disparaged in these threads -- for example, the girls who apparently only say they like games to get guys. (Not that I've ever met any girls like that!)
Some of our members are also Frag Dolls, and they're the scariest, craziest, most hardcore gaming ladies you'll ever meet. Just make sure you're not the wrong end of their SMGs...
As for any division in our ranks, well; we all love games, and we all spend a lot of our time playing them. Obviously, as with any large number of women with common interests, you'll find all sorts of different types of people. But we're all gamers first, girls second, despite whatever angles the press might try to take. It seems the gaming press can't get enough of the whole girl gamer thing.
I'm personally off to the Women's Game Conference in a couple of weeks to see what all the fuss is about... -
Re:ClansI'm only 26... You're correct that clans are groups of gamers working together (teams, if you will).
Fragdolls are a group of beautiful women put together by Ubisoft (expenses paid of course) to go to gaming events and promote their games. Slashdot story on them.

Re:What a coincidence
I don't play FPS very often, and I don't actually play many computer games on my 1997-era PC. I'm too cheap to buy a gaming computer.
I'm sure these women can play games and that they are pretty decent, but it's pretty obvious that the concept of the 'Frag Dolls' is a PR campaign first, and a gaming clan second.
It's about attracting male gamers to the Ubisoft product line. They are booth babes who are good at video games. It's manufactured group, just like the Bud girls and Britany Spears. They are using sex to manipulate you.
If the FragDolls were about Gaming first, and marketing second. then you might see more pictures of the ladies playing games, instead of sitting there looking pretty. Do you even see a video game in this lady's profile? What does her eye and hair color have to do with her gaming ability? -
Re:Game Company
If they buy you out, quit immediatley, unless you want to work 80 hours a week for them.
Since Ubisoft pays my girlfriend to work I am sort of partial to them and their success. Cause then I'd have to get a real job. ;)
