Re:Why switch?
My 3-year-old son loves Frozen Bubble, although he's not particularly good at it yet.

Simple direct-media layer
One word: SDL
SDL, Simple Direct Media Layer isn't that at least three words? Err four ... ;)
SDL rocks, and Frozen Bubble is too much fun -
Re:A PDA should mean less work not more
Froot rules. I'd love to see perl-SDL ported to the Zaurus, though (we have Perl, we have SDL)...
...then we might be able to play Frozen Bubble!!! -
Re:I love this, first Winex 2.1 and now this
Snood for the masses. I actually went to the trouble to PAY for Snood when I was using Windows, so I was a little bummed that I couldn't use it on Linux. But then I discovered the above solution. I also played the game that Snood was a ripoff of via an NES emulator.

Re:an entire year of college was spent playing

Re:an entire year of college was spent playing
For a Linux equivalent, try Frozen Bubble.

Re:an entire year of college was spent playing
The closest thing to Snood under Linux is called Frozen Bubble. It's also got a really fun two-player mode that my wife and I enjoy together.

It might not be a classic, but...
Frozen Bubble. Is that game ever addictive. The music is a bit repetitive but very fitting. And the cute little noises it makes when you shoot the little spheres.. delightful. An easy way to kill a few hours. It's Perl/SDL so I'm sure you could compile it on OS X.

Two words...
Two words... Frozen Bubble

Re:Does art work in Open-Source?
I have never seen an open-source style game that didn't look like a pile of crap... open source artists are not as good as professional artists
Which means you haven't seen Frozen Bubble. This game looks fabulous! If you had seen it, you (hopefully) wouldn't make sweeping generalizations about the artists in the open source community.
People, if you know any artists that have some free time, ask if they would be interested in getting involved in projects like these. Having a game under your belt, even for artists, can be a great portfolio starter to get you involved in the gaming industry. -

First stable distro to include Frozen-Bubble :-) !
(Warning! this is a shameless self advertisement
;p)
Mandrake 8.2 is the first stable distro to include Frozen-Bubble, a full-featured game with colorful animated penguin eyecandy, 50 levels of 1p game, hours and hours of 2p game, 3 professional quality 20-channels musics, 15 stereo sound effects, and 7 unique graphical transition effects (erhm, this game has been sponsored by MandrakeSoft).
(my own private conclusion: you need this game ;p)
(thanks to contribs of many other people, hopefully the game is available for previous releases of Mandrake, for Debian, Red Hat and a few other distros)
