Collaborative mapping
With a GPS receiver in many cell phones we need to figure out how we all can collaborate on creating maps. Here is a map I created with the data from my cell phone over the course of a couple of months. If everyone contributed instead of the data from a few people driving around we could pool the collective data and have great, open maps. This service is free until the end of the year, if everyone who can signed up and we pool the locations we would have a great map (not to mention traffic info.)

Anyone can track my cell phone
Since February anyone has been able to track my cell phone
What is the big deal? Get it while it is still optional -
Already in the states...for free
Since February, anyone with a Motorola i88 or i58sr and Nextel service can track their phone for free. You do have to load a Java app onto the phone first
-
This is already available in the US for free
Since this past February anyone has been able to see where my phone is in real time right here A cool map of everypoint I have driven past.

Rabbit semiconductor Core Module
Not exactly a single chip but a Rabbit core module is what you want. They are $59 in qty of 1 or $34 in qty of 1000. For about $250 you get everything you need to get started including: a C compiler, an open source TCP/IP stack, protoboard, and programming cable. Check out my on-line Etch-A-Sketch I made using one

Path of least observation
The Institute for Applied Autonomy has a nice tool to plan paths through Manhattan that will take you past the fewest cameras. I imagine these kinds of tools will spring up in other areas
Or you can get ahead of them like I have. Get a tracking cell phone while it is still optional -
Track my Nextel phone
You can download a Java App to track your cell phone at www.gadgeteer.org I have a free service running that recieves UDP packets sent by the phone and creates a web page with a link to mapquest showing your current location

Re:There Is at least one already...
I am that guy

Web reporting termometer
I will make you one cheap(about $100) And as a side benefit you can control an Etch-A-Sketch with it. But seriously the Rabbit semiconductor core modules are very cool. For $40 you get an ethernet port with a free (beer not speech) TCP/IP stack, 4 serial ports and 8 general purpose I/O's

GPS in many US cell phones
The FCC has mandated that all cell phone operatores be able to locate an emergency caller by the end of '06. So far Sprint and Nextel have put GPS chipsets in their phones, but only Nextel gives the JVM running on the phone access to the location data. If you have a Motorola i88s or i58s you can download a midlet that will track your cell phone and update a web page with your location

GPS enabled cell phones are available
If you have a Motorola i88s and download a midlet I wrote you can track your cell phone and have it's position update a web page in real time. You can also mark an interesting location to see where it is on a map or aerial photo later. This is possible thanks to Nextel's always on internet connection for $9.99 for 1 Meg per month. Of course if the enemy has web access this wouldn't be too good

Just a designer's concept
For a real useless internet embedded device check out my internet enabled Etch-A-Sketch. But seriously, how do these people plan to get coneected to the internet? If you want to use Ethernet to connect something to the internet the RCM 2200 is a great starting point

Have they registered any names?
smith.name is not taken!

Success was scaring the guy into confessing
Like almost all lie detector success stories the subject thinks the lie detector is working and is tricked into confessing. Show me real double blind experimentation that shows this thing works, otherwise this is just a high-tech diving rod.

Cheap Ethernet microcontrollers
Cheap, small, low power microcontrollers with ethernet jacks are coming out that will put many things on the web The Rabbit semiconductor RCM 2100 is one example. Check out this motorized Etch-A-Sketch The $50 (qty 1) board is serving the web page and controlling the stepper motors
