No Medicine Man! :(
It was a little known indie game from "Magic Carpet Software", but it was really cool, some medicine man dancing for rain.

Vice and Frodo 64
I use Vice on my desktop computer and Frodo C64 on my Android phone. Accordingly, I don't need an extra gadget to play with my Commodore 64.
Gamebase64 has everything you never needed to know about C64 games, Girls of '64 for everything in 8-bit nudity, and AppsnToolsBase64 for everything in utilities, business and productivity applications.
All c64 programs are tiny in modern terms; an uncompressed 1541 floppy disk image is only 170k. So you can carry every significant Commodore 64 program that was every released on a single flash drive or on your phone, and have plenty of room to spare.

10000 apps? I don't think so.
http://www.gamebase64.com/ This database has 20000 games. Those are just the ones they've found and it doesn't even include actual applications, only games. The total number of programs for the C-64 is probably far more than 50000.

Looks to me like a hack of the actual C-64 Q-Bert. -
Re:Youtube video
If you'd rather relive them less vicariously, grab an emulator for your OS and then check this out:

You used a joystick to move your dude and typed commands when you were near something actionable.
Don't misunderstand me, though. I would agree KQ probably goes on that list. Sierra paved a LOT of roads back in their day. More than any other developer I can think of. And KQ was of course a big part of that. -

Re:A return to appliances?Hey (and on the expense of topicness), what's Gamebase?
It's like MAME for the C64. Highly, highly recommended.
