nerd-friendly mobile phone
You are badly informed. The update to the N900 is the N9 (Wikipedia, price comparison). It has been available on the market for over a year now.
You will not get anything better than this from Nokia anymore as the development teams are sacked. There will be no more official software updates for the N9, but the fan community picks up the ball because the OS (MeeGo, a Debian derivative) is quite hackable. I have installed the whole GNU and Qt developer toolchains and can develop both live on the device and cross-compiling to ARM from my laptop. It's also easy to flash alternative OS like Mer.
Some ex-Nokia developers formed a new company, Jolla, and have demoed their first product just a couple of days ago.

Re:Mac
Well, nobody has explained if and how much VAT is included in the 359.
This would be a critical price factor.
Because I can find Mac Minis from 444 including 20% VAT, and 359 + 20% VAT would be 430, pretty near, wouldn't you say.
Furthermore, even if the 359 are including VAT, you can get at this price point a name branded PC with more CPU, more RAM and more HDD easily.
E.g.: http://geizhals.at/eu/a401398.html (339, reasonable quad core CPU, 3GB RAM too, 320GB hdd, optical drive and Windows license)

Pretty reasonable?
Assuming even that the 359 includes some sales tax (that depends from which country these guys plan to sell it):
http://geizhals.at/eu/a401398.html 339 for an Packard Bell iMedia D4500, Phenom X4 9100e 4x 1.80GHz, 3072MB, 320GB, Windows Vista Home Premium (PB80X37003)
http://geizhals.at/eu/a475774.html 349 for an Acer with 4GB/320GB DualAtom. Funnily even a Win7 license is included.
http://geizhals.at/a468358.html admittingly only 2GB RAM, but a Pentium Dual Core and only 293
http://geizhals.at/?cat=syscpq&bpmax=359&v=e&plz=&dist=&sort=p HP offers at this price point even Quad Opterons (admittingly with 1GB RAM)
http://geizhals.at/eu/?cat=syslenovo&bpmax=359&v=e&plz=&dist=&sort=p&xf=445_2048 Levono does have a number of boxes too
Nothing reasonable priced about this offer, sorry. You can get a multiple of processing power for that money; or more storage and memory even for a DualAtom with a branded product. (And I'd argue that it's still cheaper, because you do get that Win7 license, even if you don't need it.)
And while not all of these PCs are automatically perfectly Linux compatible, some are for sure, e.g. Atom based designs have usually mostly Linux friendly hardware.

5D Mk II
I dont't have one, but it seems the 5D Mk II is already out. On Geizhals, an Austrian price comparison website (Google translation), numerous retailers list it as available. At €2380 (the cheapest one that actually has it in stock) it's not exactly cheap, but then again, most professional DSLRs aren't.

Re:Right Now, In the U.S. Vista Cost You $349
-
More like â449,- ...
It's â449 in Germany and approx. 16.1% of that is VAT (rate is 19%), so it's more like $592 (Germany) vs. $399 (US). That's not terribly bad, but still a result of what most large companies are doing at the moment (including MMOs): having the rich european countries subsidize the US consumers, who are getting poorer and poorer in comparison, by sticking to a 1:1 USD:EUR conversion.

Germany compares prices at Geizhals.at
Geizhals.at is the way to go for buyers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Germans beware: Geizhals.de is not what you're looking for.

Re:Pedantic Retort
Noone is buying a retail version. just get a DSP/OEM/SB Version for 130 EUR (Austrian price with VAT)

Re:SliMP3 looked better
Of course, the original SliMP3 doesn't fit well to hifi components either. But I just liked its look better. Matter of taste, I guess
:)
Yes, I like the Audiotron too. I look really good, a simple and clean front. Terratec has a nice one as well, the Digital Radio DR 1000. (They had an even cuter one some time ago, the Terratec M3Po) -
Sure... forum.geizhals.at
forum.geizhals.at, discussion forum (german language only!) for the geizhals.at price comparisons
... Does approx. 3 mil. Page Impressions per month and is 100% Resin 2.1.x(JSP)/PostgreSQL 7.2.3/Apache-based (originally built with Resin 1.2.4, PostgreSQL 6.3 in Q2/2000). Runs off a single dual-CPU Pentium III/800MHz server (including the database, which is also used by other parts of geizhals.at, which has approx. 18 mil. Page Impressions per month).

prices in europe and an alternativePrices here.(from 379 incl. VAT).
An alternative would be the also brand-new NEC ND-1100A: prices. Here's a news item at heise.de (German, translated by Google)

it already is...
-
That's EXPENSIVE!
You can get 256MB PC2100 (CL2.5) in good old Europe for under 70 Euros including (local) sales tax. And the Euros are pretty cheap at the moment, too
:-/. DDR prices. -

er... tell me if i'm wrong but haven't there been DVD Recorders around for quite some time? this link to an austrian computer store tells me that there are already DVD recorders for about $700. or is the HP recorder one with which i can also recorde TV shows?

Re:Still too slow...Check out our own website if you have a fast connection, specifically: this page, and this page. We keep the HTML very trimmed and the pages load quickly (IMHO) after the images are in the cache. I tried to change between these 2 pages several times using Opera, MSIE 6.0 beta and Mozilla 0.9.2, and while the page itself is rendered quickly with Mozilla, there is a noticeable delay before anything appears on the screen.
You can see similar effects with very lightweight pages such as heise Newsticker, where the pages load quickly with all other browsers, but for some reason there's a delay with Mozilla.

so use a shop-crawler
There are plenty of shopping bots that search online stores for current prices, so you don't get the "special pricwatch price" effect. I run the largest of these in Austria (www.geizhals.at), but I know that there plenty of these in the US. dealtime.com is somewhat well-known these days because of the evenbetter.com merger.
