Re:Anyone else hope
As an Indianapolis resident, I'm pretty happy with the move. It's actually a pretty good location as far as accessibility, too. A close drive from Chicago, Columbus OH, St. Louis. And it is not a terrible drive from Wisconsin. And increasingly better amenities as far as entertainment goes.
That said, every gamer within driving distance should register for this year's GenCon Indy. It's a lot of fun and it doesn't require flying out to California or New York like every other convention these days. -
Not even most active
Look at Star Wars - coming up is Star Wars Celebration IV, where around 30,000 people will attend. Having been to the last Star Wars Celebration in Indianapolis, I can easily believe those numbers.
Now look at the last Serenity convention - the Flanvention. Even if it had not abruptly folded the day before it was to go off, it only had some 500 people attending - as did the one the year before that I attended. Now partly that was a limitation by choice of the event organizers, but I'm not sure they quite reached even 500 the first one.
I really, really like Firefly and Serenity - but they have no-where near the fan base that Star Wars does, in either size or bredth or sheer fanatisim. This was just a case of Browncoats gaming the polls before the Star Wars Bantha could wake to smite them. -
Re:Real E3
The layout for the exhibitor's area at Gencon Indy has been revamped, and a substantial area set aside for the electronic gaming folks. Some of the companies will save some money, because they were already attending GenCon, such as SOE and the makers of City of Heroes.

Gen Con is the tabletop industry's version of E3,...
Gen Con has run annually since 1968. (40th anniversary in just 2 years, wohoo!) It is the grandfather of gaming cons. E3 started in 1995.
For most of its life, it took place in Wisconsin, but moved to Indy in 2003. Since then, they have begun running additional shows in other locations. Gen Con and its progeny were even spoofed in the movie Galaxy Quest. -
Re:Indy
The big one is in Indiana. They're branching out into other areas though. Here's a link to the Gen Con website.

Re: Alpha Complex Dandy
I guess I have two questions:
Will you be at GenCon Indy, and how do I get in the game?

SolCal Gen Con
If you're in Cali in December, you should check out Gen Con. It's in the fair city of Anaheim and is loaded with geekness.
