Best hosts file creator
APK Hosts File Engine 9.0++ SR-4 32/64-bit https://www.google.com/search?...
Ads rob speed, security (malvertising) & privacy (tracking).
Hosts add speed (hardcodes/adblocks), security (bad sites/poisoned dns), reliability (dns down), & anonymity (dns requestlogs/trackers) natively.
Works vs. caps & PUSH ads.
Avg. page = big as Doom http://www.theregister.co.uk/2... & ads = 40% of it.
Hosts != ClarityRay blockable (vs. souled-out to admen inferior wasteful redundant slow usermode addons)
Less power/cpu/ram + IO use vs. DNS/routers/addons/antivirus (slows you) + less security issues/complexity.
Compliments firewalls (blocking less used IP addys vs. hosts blocking more used domains) & DNS (lightens dns load).
Gets data via 10 security sites.

Endpoint security + user education
See subject: BOTH = critical but can be ineffective vs. a malicious/disgruntled user. For that very purpose & almost 2 decades ago (originating in 1997 @ NTCompatible.com) I created guides for users to secure themselves BOTH @ home or corporate LAN/WAN (provided they have rights that is) but more geared to "standalone non-networked" systems though for individual users to do so (many users of them experienced great success due to it in fact once FULLY implemented) themselves (want to do a job right? DO IT YOURSELF type thinking)-> https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=&bih=&q=%22HOW+to+secure+Windows+2000%2FXP%22&btnG=Google+Search&gbv=1 & surprisingly, it even got me PAID (nice unexpected surprise actually).
* Many here note a social problem is not curable by technology... well, it is & it isn't as I noted above - depends on the user's mindset! Today's user? Not as big an "ignoramus" etc. others here called them (I laughed @ meatbag in 1 such comment) - they KNOW how to "f stuff up" IF they want to in other words yet can claim "ignorance" I-don't-know as a cover unfortunately - IT guys take the burden then & yes, the blame. It's sad, but HOW IT IS, unfortunately.
(I.E./E.G.-> If they're not pissed off @ the company & yes, sometimes they have a legit gripe, no doubt, but protecting where you make your monies is a GOOD idea in the end imo, no matter how bad it's going or how poorly you're treated (& yes, when you work for others you truly ARE an "expendable asset" in the end unless you own the place & yes, they burn you out for pennies too)).
APK
P.S.=> Network perimeter defenses which IT handles & usually applies (hopefully) are all "well & good" but malicious links, unless filtered out (as I do via my hosts file engine, the most effective SINGLE measure out there vs. today's threat landscape for the best "ROI" in efficiency) will get you by webpages or HTML mails every time (& disgruntled users KNOW this above all else) - nice part, especially from an IT standpoint, is that it KEEPS YOU BOYS WORKING (think about it) but it robs your money source @ the same time hurting it & YOU too in the end... apk

Re:RAID is not backup
RAID is not a backup, unless it has a snapshot feature. 2 TB is a pittance. I've got 7 TB on a 4x4 TB ZFS raid-z volume (12 TB usable), and my setup is not really that big. It's set up with FreeNAS, which supports ZFS (redundancy like RAID, plus file integrity checks, plus snapshots). The snapshots allow you to roll back to previous version of files, thus covering the weakness of RAID which makes it not-a-backup.
If most of the 2 TB is photos, you've got two cheap cloud storage options as a second backup (in case your house burns down taking your NAS with it). Google Photos is free and allows unlimited storage of photos up to 2048x2048 resolution (and 1080p videos up to 15 min, might have been reduced to 5 min). Amazon Prime comes with unlimited cloud storage of photos of any resolution. -
Re:Please stop this farce
As you are aware Youtube is able to identify content, and there are other services you may have even used such as Shazam which allow you to identify audio specifically. They're really interesting pieces of software. I don't think infringement is as big a problem now (vs when they opened their doors) on Youtube since uploaded copyrighted media is able to be identified via Content Id the ad revenue is shared with the respective organizations. When this process doesn't proceed that's when the content is disappeared. Pretty neat how these companies make it big by enabling the behavior in some fashion and then eventually clamp down. See the iPod (as if people were paying $10,000 to fill them with licensed media), Google, Youtube und so weiter.

What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
Maybe the writers of the Terminator series need to reevaluate how Skynet was formed.
Instead of a virus or a webpage: Skynet started when disgruntled Domino's Pizza bots got sick of hearing customer complaints and crappy tips. -
Re:Free market
Yeah, the Obama FDA, that hotbed of conservative activism!
Also, since when was price fixing by governments a "free market" solution?
You make it sounds like the Democrats are in favor of free trade from online pharmacies, when a quick Google search and clicking on the first link is enough to dispel that.
I'm not saying there aren't government-lovers on both sides in this area, but to cast it as 'the "conservatives" are against a free market, and the "liberals" are for the free market.' when it's more the opposite is quite a stretch there...

Sounds good
Sounds like a good idea. What I'd like to know is when has there ever been equal pay or equality in anything ? Even when it was just the 'good ole boys' club there were always the ins and the outs. Those that were part of the skull and bones frat scene and those that were not. The nouveau riche https://www.google.com/#q=nouv... vs. the old money vs. the working class. No matter which side of the tracks you were born on equality has always been a struggle.

The old joke is 100% true: What do you call someone who advocates abstinence-only education? Grandma.
Just like with computers: security in layers. How about teach abstinence and make birth control available?

Re:Android hosted on Linux, not based on Linux
Beside the fact that Android Terminal Emulator was downloaded over 10 million times, so some Android Users did undoubtedly see something Linux on their Android Phone, even if they did not downloaded stuff with curl like I did on my Android tablet, but this Android is not Linux is quite annoying now. What is Linux? If I set up a firewall with a Linux kernel, busybox/toybox(like Android by the way) and a few application is it Linux or is it not in your opinion? What about my Sony bluray player? It uses Linux and other GNU stuff, but I'm sure that you'd dismiss its Linuxness as well. Probably for you Linux is Linux only when it is not as successful as other OSes, like on the desktop, but I'd like to inform you that Linux is used and was used because it is very scalable and works on everything from microcontrollers to supercomputers, obviously in different forms given the different hardware.
-
Re:Users mostly part of the "used phone" market?
Ah, the vendor binaries. The ones that keep your camera and bluetooth working and have new versions every security update. If Google releases a 7.0 set, I'll take your post as accurate. (Although if they do, why not release the whole package?) If they don't, it's back to XDA (which I fully expect) and the first few versions of the BT driver will be flaky.

I reckon the continually increasing temperature averaged over the surface of the globe averaged over a twenty or thirty year moving average timespan for the past century or so is a bit more than nothing.

Re:"Dissapointed"
That $300 gets me a speed that 's barely better than DSL, maybe a fifth of what I get thru Comcast. I'd have to be a moron to switch to that.
$140 1000Mbps + TV
$70 1000Mbps
$50 100MbpsLooking at the page more closely it says the installation fee is waived with a 1 year commitment, and checking kansas city instead of the one that turned up in google search shows the same plan.

$70 1000Mbps
$50 100Mbps
Free 5Mbps Tier -- seems to be gone in Kansas City, so maybe it won't be added elsewhere.$300 over 30 months is $10 a month (2.5 years), so add $10 to the above, depending on your plan timeframe.
I'd drop Charter in a heartbeat if I could get a free tier. 5Mb is good enough for most everything I do. I'd likely also drop it for the 100Mbps tier, since it still beats Charter's normal price, even with the ~$10 added. I'm assuming the reason they aren't providing anything less than 100 is it would cut into their profits.

Re:So much for Apple's "better design"
Ah yes the anecdote of one person...modded up. The "hasn't happened to me" approach is like a reverse ad hominem -- "You can't attack Apple, because I say there is no problem."
This page, that Google returned as the first link, is rather extensive.
Clearly this is a massive problem, both in how many are affected, and the cost to rectify things. -
Not the first time Office led to published errors
Back in the day, old versions of Word only had "co-operation" in its dictionary, and would autocorrect "cooperation" to "Cupertino". This sounded like one of those urban legend things until I searched Google Books for some common constructs. You'll find hundreds of examples like the cupertino of and Cupertino Between (has some real uses but most aren't)

Clinton's Success stories:

Movie Fact Sheet: Fact Sheet
Clinton Death Count: Death list Dont forget Julian assanges head attorney hit by a train, the father of the doc that did hillary's checkup who released some info.
Bill Clinton's Rape Sheet: Victim list Not sure if the 19 year old when he was in the CIA in oxford is on that one at 19 or his supposed best friend at 16 either.
Hillary getting a rapist off, while accusing a 12 year old virgin of being hot for older men: Article with sources here is the interview with her last month: Interview with victim 2016 Because you know a 12 year old wants stitches in her vagina.
I dont have to link hopefully what Comey said about all the lies, treason, and death she caused with her pay for play clinton foundation or the fun mails that keep coming out with FOIA. We already solved this problem
I thought the sectet ballot problem was the same thing as the "digital cash" problem or the "blind signature" problem, both of which are solved. It basically involves storing a hash or digital signature of the vote along with the vote. That way no one who does not have a voter ID can vote, and the voter can verify their vote was cast, but no one can determine how they voted. This was solved around 2000, and often discussed on Slashdot at the time.
