Should have used the Moto 680
I'm very disappointed in the phone. I'm astonished Apple didn't use the Moto 680 as the hardware base for the phone. It is a decent phone, a decent music player AND a decent pocket video device. A review is at http://www.howardchui.com/modules.php?name=Sectio
n s&op=viewarticle&artid=186.
The 680 runs a fast Intel CPU, is Linux based, has stereo speakers, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, GSM phone, SMS, MMS, EMail, WAP, Opera, Samba, telnet, Java, 3D graphics, camera that records video, MPEG4, 320x240 screen that plays video in landscape mode, mini USB, 2GB memory, decent battery, smaller than the SE P910, simple iPod-ian sort of controls, headphone jack on top, already out in other countries, well under $400 without subsidy, and has a cute multicolor light up logo.
The nice thing for Apple (and us geeks) is the phone is modular, a great blank slate for putting in your own software. Apple could just drop an iTunes player in there, or strip it to the kernel and redo the whole OS, or just the UI, or anything else. You can even start slow and push firmware updates to it as you write new stuff.
This is the phone I expected. A good start with tested hardware, but able to be fully customized. I suppose it could still happen. -

Re:Oh good
"Whatever happened to doing one thing and doing it well?"
If you look at the phone reviews over at http://www.howardchui.com/ then you'll notice that many of the phones that have "excess" bells and whistles also have excellent RF reception. My Nokia 3650, for instance, both synced without issue via Bluetooth with iSync on my Mac OS X box, but also performed admirably as a phone. Imagine that. -
Re:T226 phone - weak RF
Funny, the T226 gets high marks on Howard Chui for its reception.

If you're down the BT
check out the Bluespoon if your phone supports Bluetooth. Glorious.

On HowardChui.com...
As an aside, I find that HowardChui.com is a very informative resource for all sorts of cell-phone tech. Definately worth adding to your bookmark list!
(PS. If someone wants to buy me the Bluespoon, I'd be much obliged...) -
Another reviewAnother review done about 3 months ago can be found here:
I'm friends with Howard, and got to see it then. It's a decent phone, and the white LED flashlight is really handy at times (much like the Photons). As for the sound meter and themometer, I guess you can use it when reviewing the latest PC =)

Previews of 3650
There are some good previews of the Nokia 3650 over on GSMBOX and Howard Chui's site. I'd still vote for the 7210 though, integrated cam or not.

There's a a prelim review here. It's only for the ICQ portion currently, the full review should be out this week, I think.
