Re:Christmas Vacation
My poor father has it pretty bad. He is an architect and puts in around 80 a week (not as an option) and for the second (or is it the third?) year running got a $100 gift car. Not any gift card, mind you, but a gift card to the luxurious Ralph's supermarket.
It is more of an insult than a "thank you for your team effort". A simple handshake would be better.
Here is my fathers work

Bless you, Hans.
You have support out here on the 'Net, so hang in there. -
Re:Hmm
They can be "Not Amused" all they like... A second point of reference can only be a good thing. Especially for topics like nuclear power. I have noticed how everyone becomes an expert as soon as the topic of "melt downs" or "nuclear power" comes up. Their fields of instant expertise vary from nuclear physics to statistics to medicine to environmental engineering to genetics.
Having an Wikipedia alternative where a real (I hope) expert watches entries like this and provides good solid data and knuckle draggers are not allowed to correct the "expert" with pop culture bullsh1t can only be a good thing.
Don't get me wrong, I still love the Wiki... I just don't understand why the bad vibes.

Re:About the time of the penguins...
Probably around the time the lead Mozilla developer is standing over Steve Ballmer holding a copy of Ubuntu screaming, "The power of the penguin compels you! The power of the penguin compels you!

Good god that was funny. Bless You
As for "Is this the start of better collaboration, or just a sign the Microsoft has learned its lesson from the antitrust battles?" -> Why can't it be both? Because Microsoft's reason for existance is the same for all corporations. To generate income for the owners (shareholders). Not to be nice, or cooperate with marketplace compeditors, it's to push compeditors out of marketspace, and if your think they are going to "ship Mozilla *anything*" with Vista I got two words for ya.
Shareholder Lawsuit
Microsoft is doing this to avoid federal govt problems and put on a good show. Nothing more. Mozilla will still have to fight it out and gain marketshare the same way it has been. By being a better product. :)
Aw hell... Bless Mozilla too. -

Re:The camel, the back, the straw...
Maybe I'm overreacting, but hey. Fuck them.
No, you are not over reacting. This is the feedback system for corps. If they misbehave, we the customers, have the option -the obligation- to vote with our wallets. Lawsuits, and petitions, and letters to the board are nowhere as simple and effective as not spending money with them.
Good for you, and I will join you. Bad Corp, No Dollar.

Simpsons? What?
I think someone has watched too many episodes of the Simpsons and thought the Springfield Online Police Report was a good idea.

Re:Yay! (Sort of)
It is always amazing that given the incentive, science always finds a way to work through the requirements if the application is worth working on.
It is also amazing that we make them work through the requirements at all. It would also be amazing what they could have done if their work had not been bureaucraticly retarded for how many years now? At least they did manage to do it. Give thanks.

Re:trash to treasure
I have a feeling that in 10 years or so it will be economicly feasable to strip mine old landfills than to go mining for raw ore. Generational recycling and reclamation, if you will.
