Re:Pffftt... those are wimpy.
Let's not forget i.am/bald for those of us who like fantastic artsy websites without the use of Flash (though there is some Java toward the end.)

Re:Read the book and the sequels!Definitely read the book! It's great, and IMHO much better than the movie (even director's cut).
What is really surprising is that the two sequels written by [checking book case] K. W. Jeeter are also really good! They're named "Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Humanity" and "Blade Runner 3: Replicant Night" (presumably in order to leverage the Movie title in marketing), but they really are "DADoES?" 2 and 3 (As opposed to a cheap ripoff-merchendaise scam following the "director's cut" re-release).
Jeeter has done an incredible job writing the books, and manages to build on the original in a way that strengthens both it and the sequels.
I really had my doubts about those two books, but I after reading them, I have no reservations recommending them to anyone that liked the original! Oh, and don't bother visiting my homepage, it's one of those places that never really gets started. At least for now.

Re:OK Andover, cut the shit.
I agree totally. If this is truly what has happened, and this would suggest something horrible has happened to osm, we should not only actively boycott slashdot for this behaviour, but email taco every day that we do not go and explain why, report to other news sites, post on other news sites in our support for osm daily.
Obviously now that
/. is coprporate this will be the only way to get them to do right. It is really interesting how hypocritical /. can be. They advocate open sourcing everything from toasters to nuclear codes but /code has always been woefully behind and released "when [taco] feel[s] like it." (direct quote) They talk about allowing free speech, anonymity, and privacy, but make /. all but unviewable without an account. Then they pull this shit. It was bad enugh when they wee disabling accounts for "trolling" and indeed IP addresses. It is the reason some of the newer trolls (Karma pimp? where art thou?) have disappeared. It's not like they really encourage positive participation anyway. Moderation will automatically make you leak karma like there is no tomorrow, so the only people who will do it have vested interests. Posts critical of
/. practices (like these) will be modded down. YOu can't moderate down signal 11 or you will be bitchslapped by Taco. You also cannot annoy Taco in any way or he will bitchslap you too.At one point there was supposedly a bug in slash that allowed posts to end up at -2. Probabaly an urban legend, but interesting if it was true. Given the way posts are moderated, it would not be hard to (re)impliment silently because anyone who dared point it out would be moderated down to -2. Thankfully this has not happened yet.
Maybe we should support and send articles to the troll-friendly slashdot2.org? Perhaps that page could become the place to report bullshit on
/. since /. no longer reports on it anymore (they used to report when they were hacked, DDOS'ed, down, or anything, now they are down in some fashion almost daily with no explanations, and all kinds of nefariousness goes unexplained, like the undocumented bitchslap system). -
if you ask me...CmdrTaco should bitchslap Mattel's karma back into the Stone Age. Oh wait - I guess this article's doing that already
:)OK I've been at work waaay too long... time to go home heh.

RE:ugh, NeoGeo
>I mean SNK is still tryin to pawn off those games in the arcades with their now-crappy graphics and gameplay
Sorry.
I couldn't let this one slide.
The gameplay in SNK's King of the Fighters is the best gameplay that can be experienced in a fighting game to date.
BAR NONE.
For example: Can you avoid projectiles in Street Fighter Alpha 3 ?
Answer: Yes. However projectile aversion is extremely limited...
Your options in SFA3:
1. Jump.
2. Block ( not really aversion)
3. Super Technique ( Some characters the rest are SOL.)
4. Counter with another projectile.
Your options in K.O.F.98:
1. Short Jump.
2. Long Jump.
3. Super Technique.
4. Dodge (in Extra Mode) or Roll (Advanced Mode)
5. Counter with another projectile
6. Block -->Counter Attack.
7. Block -->Roll
The point of this list is to illustrate that your options for attack/counter-attack in KOF98 are infact massive when compared to SFA3, making KOF a true game of skill, instead of relying only on attrition as in Street Fighter Alpha 3.
>First, its a "24-bit" system...i think i remember it having one 16bit processor and one 8 bit processor ... the carts were HUGE ... AND cost about 150 to 200 bucks.
True. However, and this is just an opinion, is that the some of things that SNK does with an 8-year old system still leave me breathless. Superior game design..end of story. I'm not only a neo-geo advocate... I'm also a client. I have one, and it was the best 200 bucks I ever spent on a system. Yes, even the playstation.
Also, did you know that King of Fighters 97 was in the fighing games top ten in Japan for about 20 weeks ? It beat the pants off of :
1. Street Fighter III
2. Marvel vs. Capcom.
3. Virtua Fighter.
>This is pretty much a 3d gaming world >now...time for the NeoGeo to go awaaaaaaay
Nope. Superior game design makes a superior game.
No matter how many Mortal Kombat clones get released.
