Yeah, I'm SURE that "Rebel Without a Cock" is the same movie as "Without a Paddle".

There was a TV Pilot called Earth II starring Gary Lockwood where this was a plot-point; at the beginning a saboteur was preparing to shoot the rocket on the pad with a high-powered rifle before he was stopped and killed by launch facility defense personnel.

There have been special rifles designed to target equipment rather than humans, so it is not inconceivable that someone could use such a rifle to explosively destroy a rocket once it's fueled or as its fueling.

I found it!

Like Majel he had 25+ years of recorded material from TV shows like At the Movies. He even hired a firm to create a voice from that material. As it turned out, that 25+ years of recording was inadequate to create a working synthetic voice.

I suspect Roger had more material than Majel as he was doing 22 minute review shows for some many years compared to Majel's occasional appearances and scripted "computer voice" work.

This is another good film with an all male cast. You could certainly cast women and keep the premise, but the dynamic would change quite a bit I think.

I'm not familiar with that film, but here's another movie with no women. In fact, it's the only film like that starring Clark Gable.

The question actually might be 'is this a soap opera" purely on the grounds that you seem to have confused Sci-Fi's dramas with soap operas. Here is the clue - dramas typically revolve around a self contained episode. So, Big Bang Theory - Drama. Sure, there are some elements that might carry between episodes, like a character might get married etc, but the format of the show is that of a dramatization, not a soap opera. This is a bad idea, as those of us who are old enough to remember, all know.

Back in the 1980s, before we had internet-connected PCs in our pockets, we had to use different tech to play Pokemon Go. It involved using an electronic resonator which stimulated the pineal gland. This allowed people to see into the pokemon universe, so you knew where they were. There were some problems, though.

The biggest problem was that the resonator did not merely allow you to see; it also allowed you to be seen by the pokemons. Even the magicarp where somewhat dangerous, and it just got worse from there. There were maulings and even some deaths.

A relatively minor problem (then; but in today's context it matters more) is that the pineal stimulation also somehow made people really horny. If sex offenders can't use computers to see the pokemons, then they're going to play with resonators, so you're going to have horny sex offenders hanging out at the lures. Who thought this was a good idea?! For fuck's sake, you want these people to be using the Internet version. Good grief!

They made a movie about it (though they couldn't get the Pokemon licensing, so everything's renamed).

There are 2 huge problems with Netflix:

1. The elephant in the room is that Netflix simply can't afford the +x% licensing renewal contract costs. Its days are numbered. This is why every year it has fewer and fewer selection.

2. The other BIG problem with Netflix is self-censored results:

a) Last night I did a search for "Expendables 3" on the iOS version. As I type in expen it will list "Explore titles related to" with "The Expendables 1, 3, 2" (yes in that order) but then it shows ZERO results. Instead it shows "Redemption" and "Blitz". WTF? I want Expendables -- either on Streaming or Mail order. Instead I get neither. *FAYUL*

Not exactly. While technically they are older (1997) then Tivo (1999) they didn't start streaming until 2007.

Tivo created the idea of giving customers "My TV, My Time". Netflix didn't have the high speed internet infrastructure to continue it until ~10 years ago.

Everyone is fighting over a piece of the pie. I wouldn't be (too) surprised to see one of the big cable companies buy it. I'm kind of surprised Google hasn't bought it yet as they could tie in their YouTube branding.

We'll see.

The problem is that I want to look something up that I don't know -- I may not even have access to the book(s).
The solution is that the internet has become a repository of shared knowledge.

Why isn't Rip Torn in the film?
Rip Torn isn't in the movie, because he was arrested after breaking into a closed Litchfield Bancorp branch office in Lakeville, Connecticut, where Torn maintains a residence. He was charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree criminal mischief. The Connecticut State Police said that Torn broke into the bank thinking it was his home.... On December 14, 2010, Torn pled guilty to a litany of charges: reckless endangerment, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and the illegal carrying of a firearm and was given a two-and-a-half-year suspended jail sentence and three years probation.

That's an interesting parallel to how modern records are made.

Benmont Tench of The Heartbreakers talked about it in Runnin' Down a Dream It used to be, the whole band would be in the studio, and they would rehearse takes, then step into the booth to record individual parts.

Then Jeff Lynne and Dave Stewart changed the whole approach, and he'd be sitting at home and get a call saying "come in to the studio now." He'd record a few keyboard lines, and be sent home. The record was assembled at the mixing board.
