Much bigger than you think. . .
This is actually much bigger than you think. . . in fact it's much
bigger than Sony or portables
This Sony Connect actually fits into a larger distro called AnyMusic available in Japan that was
created by a cooperation of Japanese consumer electronic firms including Sony. AnyMusic
Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sharp, Onkyo, Marantz, Denon, JVC, and Yamaha
plan on creating consumer electronic devices beyond portables that will
be comptable with the online distro (using Atrac3 and OpenMG X/Label
Gate); also likely the Sony PSP/PS3 will also be compatible as well as
other non-sony devices.
Here are some devices that support the format:
Pioneer
X-AM1
Kenwood
Sony
NetJuke (40GB HDD)

I'm pretty sure it's not an automaton.In fact, I'm pretty sure it's R/C.
While we're at it, I'm pretty sure we're missing the point by arguing whether it is demonstrating the ability to play soccer or football, since it was in fact a contestant in Bandai's annual Robo-One where the goal was to have little anthropomorphic (.PNG) robots pummel (.MPG) the crap (.MPG) out of each other to win by TKO. Dig around the sites and you'll find piles of highly entertaining videos.
For those of you who can't stomach anthropomorphic robot on anthropomorphic robot violence, click here for footage of the little suckers particpating in non-combative activities.

Price, more pictures
None of the press releases are saying it, but:
All three of the Impress Watch articles say it will cost around 40,000 yen - approximately $400 USD. And this is just for the reader, subscribing to the e-book service costs $5-10/month. They do, however, have the option of just purchasing single books for 350 yen, about $3.25.

K-Tai Watch article

There are also MANY more pictures of the device available at the above URLs. There's even some showing a manga on the screen of the thing, for those of you interested in that sort of thing.
I do have a few pictures posted in my article as well, but it's really nothing you couldn't have found yourself. -

US debut
The new Muramasa has been out in Japan since January. It has had some nice reviews and keeps up well with Pentium-M modells of similar clock speed (see this Japanese review). And it is much cheaper.

/.edFemale printer from Epson
Posted_on Mar 16, 2004 - 10:52 AM by zmcnulty
Its a printer by women, for women.
I first thought this was just being marketed at women, but no - it was completely designed by Team8, an all-woman project team specifically created by Epson for this project.
More information on what makes a printer female inside.
Seiko Epson will release the Colorio me: E-100, atransportable inkjet printer developed under the printer easy for women to use themeon April 23rd. The printer is officially Open Price, but indicators suggest it should cost around 20,000 yen.
The Colorio me: is an inkjet printer designed by Epsons Team8, an all-woman project team formed specifically for the purpose of creating a printer easy for women to use. It has a handle on the round-style case for transporting.
Its an inkjet style printer, and prints using one ink cartridge with 6 colors. The printer resolution is a maximum of 2880 x 1440 dpi. To confirm what is being printed, it features TV output, and connects to the PC via USB. The size is 256 x 154 x 163mm (W x D x H), and it weighs 2.7kg.
Another feature of the Colorio me: is its ability to connect to cellular phones (with cameras)and digital cameras and print directly- and in addition to SD cards, Memory Stick, and CompactFlash, it supports miniSD cards and Memory Stick Duo when equipped with seperate adapters.
Loaded on board is the Cell Phone with Camera Correction mode, and images are printed on glossy card-size photo paper. Pictures taken with a cellular phone can also be printed easily. Finally, infrared and Bluetooth (Ver 1.1) wireless support is available as an option, and when the size and print mode is set via the operation panel on the printer, it can print wirelessly.
In addition, the Colorio PM-D1000 video-deck shaped inkjet printer will be released in May. The price on this one is also Open Price, but indicators suggest it should cost around 40,000 yen.
The PM-D1000 also supports miniSD cards and Memory Stick Duo with seperate adapters, as well as the Cell Phone with Camera Correction mode. It also has wireless (infrared and Bluetooth) support as an option. The size is 430 x 420 x 109mm (W x D x H), and the printer weighs roughly 8.3kg.

Here's a LOT more information on this ...The below information is from minidisc.org.
Sony plans to release FOUR new devices in April. They are expected to cost $200 for the MZ-NH600D, $250 for the MZ-NHF800, $300 for the MZ-NH900, and $400 for the MZ-NH1, with Hi-MD blanks costing about $7. They are also planning to release a bookshelf system, the LAM-X1.
There are a few concept ideas also. Look here (Japanese) to see a bunch of other Hi-MD items, including a Hi-MD Camera!
Click here for a translated (Babelfish) document with a bit of technical information.

Re:Why video on a screen ?
Call me silly, but the last thing I want is a tiny screen for playing games , what I'd much prefer is a device the size of a gameboy or cellphone , or a bit smaller, for which I can buy a screen I can attach. That way when I buy the normal device I know that if I don't want to play games(99% of the time) I'm not going to lug around the TV screen.
so yeah you are silly :) -

Hardware spec not changed
Part of this story is bogus. The official spec of PSX is lowered to make it ship at scheduled date as the in-house validation to the first-announced spec takes certain amount of time, but the hardware is not changed. At least Japanese media reports so. Those dropped capabilities are offered later as free firmware upgrade via internet.

Re:apple threatend to sue samsung?
apple is like disney, they go after anyone that looks like they are makeing a similar product.
Not everyone, just the people who blatantly rip off Apple designs in an attempt to fool consumers. The concept is called "trade dress."
Trade dress is why Apple sued eMachines and Future Power over their eOne and ePower iMac knockoffs. Check Google Images for "emachines eone" and "future power epower," and see how similar they are to the original iMac.
Now look at Samsung's iPod knockoff. Trade dress is also applicable here. It's pretty obvious to me that Samsung started with the iPod design and made what they believed to be enough changes to avoid legal action. You can bet that they would have made it white, if they thought they could get away with it.

Getting the USB Toothbush to work under gnu/hurd?
