Re:Basis for discrimination
Ultimately, the companies that hire Infosys should pay for this outrageous behavior. What other strategy will yield the fastest end to this degradation of American workers?
...or even, put a stop to the entire H1B visa abomination? Here's a list of Infosys Clients.Pick one at random. How about: Kellogg's? (They have such a homey, "All-American" brand image, don't they?)
Make them pay: Shame them, give them bad publicity, DESTROY THEIR BRAND -- do anything legal & necessary to make them drop Infosys as a vendor, permanently.

Indian BPOs in the Philippines
I'm not sure how extensive they are or if TFA takes this into account, but it should be noted that all the Indian BPO majors have a presence in the Philippines.

The Infosys of 2014..

Re:Go to IndiaI know a few years ago Infosys was actively recruiting recent grads for their 6 month training program near Bangalore in S. India. While the salary was nowhere near 2/3 of what you'd make in the US (even as a fresh grad), it was a very interesting experience, and I actually came out of it with some very good practical Java experience. The most important thing, though, was the few lines on my resume listing my experience in India - considering that many businesses are either heavily staffed with Indian nationals working here in the US and/or managed by PHBs who are more than likely to be interested in workers with 'offshoring' experience, the money lost will be made up in job opportunities when you get back.
BTW, according to a few polls I've seen in magazines lately, Indians, in contrast to the Europeans, still hold Americans in pretty high regard. I've never met more friendly people than in S. India.

Re:Education?
I was an IT worker in India. I am Indian. Indian IT companies recrit all sorts of engineer i.e civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical etc apart from comp sci. Since most engineering students have atleast a common denominator of traits like analysis, rigourous coursework, maths etc. the IT companies know that they can train them in sofwtware with relative ease. Of course the CS grads get the more better technlogy to start with (says database. java etc) while the non - CS ones may have more maintenance, mainframe, testing kind of job to begin with. Most IT companies take grads and subject them to 1-3 months intensive introductory software training courses just like a mini college course. Check for example the infosys global education centre Also large Indian companies are in turn opening offices in China , Hungary etc to outsource the outsourcing.

Re:Well that helps
And of course these jobs aren't available to the greater majority of the population, especially to the Dalit (formerly known as "untouchable") segment.
Modern Indian organization (especially in IT) are having all the equal employment opportunities you see in any Western organization.
Can you prove a 'Dalit' is unfairly treated during recruitment at a company like INFOSYS or WIPRO?
'Dalits' (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) are having reservations for jobs in Indian Public sector organizations.
Also, we should not try to generalise India to comfortable sound bytes...the reality is far more complex. -
But who are the masters?
The big point everyone is missing is that all these 'offshoring' and 'outsourcing' companies are not necessarily owned by Indians. For example, about 40% of Infosys, which is one of the largest software/BPO firm is owned by Indians. http://www.infosys.com/investor/investor_frm.asp So, ultimately, who stands to gain from the bugeoning business of these firms? The shareholders - most of which are from 'rich' countries like USA.

This article looks like
a plug for Hexaware. Why just hexaware? There are other SEI CMMi5 companies like vMoksha, Infosys and Satyam.
I noticed the article is not about outsourcing - its more about outsourcing to India. But now the US cos are employing the services of other global service providers from countries like Romania, Russia, China and Phillipines.
Also, why has ONLY software outsourcing attracted so much attention? Right from shoes to garments to even toys, and other manufacturing industries - components are outsourced. I guess the IT boom cast a brief vision of a great lifestyle..... and then went bust - and outsourcing is being blamed for the boom not booming.
One must not forget that even the citizens of the US were once outsourced.... -
Re:Terminate the H1/L1 visa programHere is an example sweatshop. This is not sweatshop labor. Even the Dell technical support jobs are highly prized jobs with employees well treated, quite different from actual sweatshop jobs that exist in other industries in India. Additionally, the Dell technical support workers are in many cases much more highly qualified than TS workers in the US who are frequently minimum wage workers and from my own personal experience are ignorant morons. The only think that is lacking with Indian TS workers is that they are less familiar with American culture so need a crash course in it (!) to be able to communicate fluently with Americans.
I hire with H1B workers and hang out with H1B workers from India in the large Indian community in Fremont, CA. This is not a community of underpaid workers. This is a highly affluent part of our society. Oh, and my personal experience is that every Indian worker is way more intelligent than the average American worker.
