Re:Library Purges
There used to be a "book rate" that was subsidised for book shipping. It may have been discontinued.

Re:Lunatic Japan
I'd suggest you also get the IE View extension in addition to that one. Personally, I use both. IE View remembers which pages/sites to *always* open in IE. This way, if you're browsing Netflix, you can keep Firefox on most of the time, and only just use IE for the streaming DRM parts. And if you install that one, you may also want to install Firefox View which installs a context menu in IE.
And last, this is not directly relevant to your post, but there is also Opera View which can be useful once in a while (but which IE Tab can do as well, since "IE Tab" can also let you open links in external applications within its context menu -- in addition to IE).

Re:Google imitating Microsoft security holes.
The
.dll.linux is actually just a .so, I think - see article from the guy who wrote FoxyTunes. Of course, if you just wanted to launch things, you could start arbitrary programs from JavaScript using nsIProcess.
Firefox extensions are just as dangerous as ActiveX. Anybody who thinks otherwise are either uninformed, idiotic, or malicious. -
ColorZilla
ColorZilla is great for web developers. It's like a dropper tool you can use anywhere on the page. Has a ton of other features too, but I only use the dropper.

Re:Sounds like . .
If you want Page Zoom functionality, the ColorZilla extension has that ability.

Here's your Firefox ActiveX
FireFoxView is an extension that lets you click on a link or page and view it in Firefox.
You might also want to try
Mozilla ActiveX control for VB apps. -
Re:Dear god...
If you're wondering about those orange box borders, FF's Colorzilla extension says it's: #FFA500.

Re:Why do you need a switch for Render Engine?
Or better yet, just use IE View & Firefox View. Context menus in both IE and FF to view current page in the other browser.

Fix for the Firefox bookmarks thing
PlainOldFavorites will give you a "Favorites" menu in Firefox, which directly accesses your IE favorites. It's a bit slow, but it will provide identical-to-IE favorites inside Firefox, even if for nothing other than fixing the arrangement of the imported stuff.

Mirrors
Mozilla.org will probably get hammered!! Here's a google cache of the Firefox Mirror List
And while you're at it don't forget those extensions:
FoxyTunes: http:www.iosart.com/foxytunes/firefox/
AdBlock: http://adblock.mozdev.org/
Or you can just go get more at: update.mozilla.org
Happy Browsing! -
Re:No Linux support either
XPIs can be written in C++ as well.

However, I wouldn't be suprised if Google was hacking into the winsock or something and not just doing normal plug-in stuff.
Whoa, welcome to 1998 -- Slashdot automatically makes links! -
I deal...I deal with it this way: I've got the "IE View" Extension installed, which adds a little thing to my context menu in Firefox, at the bottom, titled "View this page in IE" which, as expected, launches that page with IE. Works on links too, just right-click, and select "Open Link Target in IE"

Ohh! What's this? A Firefox View for IE? Wonderful! (Same thing as IE View, but installs through Firefox into IE, allowing to view a page in Firefox that's loaded in IE)
