Re:clueless
What the GP said is actually very true. I do not understand why you asked for proof, because he gave you an example immediately after his allegation:
They carry cocteau twins and breeders (for example) who are on 4ad. And who owns 4ad? Beggars Banquet - and BB is an RIAA affiliate.
It is a little trick that the big five use, and it has been going on for a good little while now. Take Island Records, as another example. It was the largest indie label in history. Who owns it now? Everyone's favorite dickheads, UMG. Check out the Island Records website, though. See any mention of it being a UMG affiliate?
That is how it works. The big five know that they are hated by the majority of the people who listen to real indie, punk, rock n' roll, et cetera. They buy up independents or spin off their own little "divisions", keep it as quiet as possible, and hope that you won't notice.
If you want to be certain that what you are planning to purchase, whether it be a download or a CD in a store, is in fact not affiliated in any way with the RIAA, I suggest bookmarking the RIAA Radar, and using it constantly. That's what I do, anyway. -

Inspired by Bravery's Honest Mistake video?
A great video (by a great band) that features a similar contraption. It's worth checking out (even if you're not a fan of the music).
Video - Honest Mistake
Incidentally, this is a band to watch for--expect them to be everywhere in a few weeks. -
Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi did something like this with their last album (Bounce). Not to the degree you propose, but a start: if you bought the CD, you got a pass code to the web site that gave you "inside access" to fan stuff, merch, and first notification for concert announcements in your area.
Very cool ideas you propose.

Re:Universal artists? -- Now it all makes sense!
Dude, they've got Lionel Richie. No wonder Apple and Microsoft are in a bidding war!

Let Elvis Costello know about it...
I went to this webpage and submitted a letter to Elvis Costello, indicating my strong disapproval of him allowing his music to be used as a wedge to take away people's control over their computers; I will not buy any more of his albums until his position changes on this issue.
You might want to do the same... -
Re:I'd say the same way everyone has to.
Just like Island Records. They have been only signing bands like Scum 41, American Hi-Fi and Saliva while leaving there good bands in the cold for no reason. They just stopped letting Primer 55 do anything but wouldnt drop them from the label even though they repeatedly asked for them too. Instead they put together tours out of their own pockets and had a blast doing it. Having a record label doesnt really help much unless you want to be a pop hungry carbon copy of creed or nickelback (which just about every new band is sounding like). I agree with the previous post in regards to your shows. You HAVE to do something to grab peoples attention. I have seen so many bands in the past few years that were very good and very talentd but they just stood there and didnt excite the crowd at all. That is the most important thing in my opinion.

Does the Slashdot Cruiser have an airbag?
I'd hate to hit a tree at 30 mph and end up looking like this guy.
