Ex-LucasArts Developers Try Vampyre Graphical Adventure
Thanks to an anonymous reader for pointing to an AdventureGamers interview with ex-LucasArts developers Autumn Moon Entertainment regarding its early-in-development graphical adventure A Vampyre Story. They explain: "With the drop in sales for [the traditional graphical adventure] genre, it became harder to get assigned to new adventure game projects at [LucasArts]. It seemed like the only logical way to be a part of that kind of project again was to create something independently." The late-2005 due project is still seeking a publisher, but is further profiled in the June 2004 Inventory PDF magazine, and the interview also explains the plot ("A young French opera star becomes the object of obsession for a deranged vampire... She must escape his castle and return to Paris"), and possible game duration ("The game will be shorter than Curse of Monkey Island and longer than Full Throttle.") -
Conspiracies - A 'Final Justice' For Videogames?
Thanks to Video-fenky for its loving review of allegedly awful PC FMV graphic adventure Conspiracies, a game that some have compared to classic MST3K film Final Justice for its ability to "plumb the depths of lameness" in an intrigue-filled Mediterranean setting. Apparently, "Conspiracies is the story of Nick Delios, a balding Greek guy in a hoodie who has a living cactus with a face named 'Nionios' and solves crime... it's the year 206X, a world of flying cars and poor dubbing, and Nick... must solve... an alien plot to take over the World Government with android body doubles of top political leaders, starting with Greece first." The official Conspiracies site has more info on this soon-to-be-cult title, paradoxically well-received by JustAdventure, which includes gorgeously random puzzles such as "smuggling a crate full of plastic explosives from outer space so you can stick it inside a bra." Video-fenky happily concludes: "Overall, Conspiracies is a game no PC adventurer should be without, even if it's for all the wrong reasons." -
ScummVM 0.6.0 Released With Freeware Bonus
busfahrer writes "The ScummVM team has announced the release of version 0.6.0 of their famous SCUMM Interpreter. It allows you to play your old LucasArts adventures on non-MS systems and/or recent hardware, and requires the original media to play. This release marks a milestone in the history of ScummVM because as of now, all SCUMM-based games created by LucasArts are now supported by the engine. Together with this release, they announce the release of the rather old, but fun adventure Flight Of The Amazon Queen as ScummVM-compatible 'freeware', having got permission from the original creators." -
Classic Browser Adventuring Goes Open Source
Conrad Sheldon writes "Just a few days after the one year anniversary of its launch, 'adventure gaming engine in a browser' Good Old Adventures has gone open source. This means that you can now create your very own browser-running Sierra On-Line format AGI games, and incorporate them into your web site - it works with the alternative SCI-formatted games as well. With some more work on the open source code by developers, perhaps it will even support SCUMM and other engines some day. The possibilities are virtually endless. Let the adventures begin..." We previously featured this project earlier last year, and it should be noted the source "does not come with the multiplayer libraries, but it is the fully playable... singleplayer version of what is online here." -
Point And Click Adventure Teaches First Aid
Thanks to Biz Ink for posting a press release showcasing a new point and click PC adventure game which explains practical first aid to kids. The game, called D.M. Dinwiddie, Physician-In-Training, apparently "..communicates basic medical and first aid information through an engaging series of adventures and medical mysteries." More interestingly, the FAQ says the game "..is a turn-based adventure game, with similarities in style to popular retail games like Police Quest or Monkey Island." And with exciting in-game scenarios like The Quest For Popcorn, it may be all adventure game fans have to take them through these dark times into the mythical Second Age Of SCUMM. -
Unfinished Adventures
Obiwan Kenobi writes "Just Adventure has an interesting article on unfinished games that were nixed in mid-development. Amongst the casualties are incomplete trilogies, an off beat 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea game, Blizzard's ill-fated Warcraft Adventures and the Star Trek title "Secret of Vulcan Fury."" -
