Is Yahoo! doing this?
I noticed Yahoo is not sending you directly to your search results. For example, if I do a Yahoo search on "open source event calendar", mouse-over the search results. The first result is my site http://www.k5n.us/, but that's not that URL. Instead it is:
http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LaRWK35wVER6YAdQ1XNyoA ;_ylu=X3oDMTE2aWs4bWthBGNvbG8DdwRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMQRz ZWMDc3IEdnRpZANGNjU0Xzc1/SIG=11fp6kdli/EXP=1141324 087/**http%3A//www.k5n.us/index.php
So, I'm wondering.... Is Yahoo tracking which sites get selected for a given search term???
And, if so, is this a good thing? It would seem like a good thing since should improve the accuracy of the search results... -
Various good web-based options.
In order of preference:
1. horde-kronolith http://www.horde.org/kronolith/ (horde suite is quite comprehensive and easy to set up)
2. webcalendar http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php
3. MediaWiki with calendar plugin (a little bit tricky to set up, and not as great to use as previous two)
Basically the shared feature of horde is pretty powerfull with a good rights-system. They also alow calendars to be exported etc.
Check them out. -

I use (and love)webcalendar.
-
on the web, LAMP (php), and in my own hands.
I need to really only share things with my wife, so i've got a web calendar and a to do manager modified (extensively).
We use my modified ToDo @ work, along with a Wiki, to manage the "little details" of software development, things where our bug management system is overkill. The main mods I added were more states besides "complete" and "not complete" -- we need "planned", "active", "on hold", "at risk", "not doing", "complete", and "on going". In addition, I improved the sorting and layout, added filters and the ability to move items among projects, a "copy" capability, the ability to assign a release, and a way to store the submitter of the item, with cookies to reduce the entry tedium of some of those.
I love open-source sometimes. I need to subnit my change back to the author to see what he thinks, since he hasn't updated it in a year. -

Thunderbird - disconnected IMAP & postfix & squirel mail.
They had to trust me at first.....but now my company will never look back - Oh and ban outlook unless they absolutly have to use it, like the accountant, who emails directly from MYOB - ie MAPI - then just configure outlook express to send email, but only open Thunderbird to read the reply.
We do keep a windows PDC for central authentication, look at winbind from the samba install - a daemon that you can write pam modules for any daemon to authenticate from the central server. And use rdiff-backup - it rocks for backing up your fileserver a special archive you can get any copy of any backed up file for the last year or more if you have a big enough hard drive :)
Hope that gets you started, oh and openvpn is the shit, with linux and windows support :) and dont forget your jabber server - all encryped jabber and IMAP of course :)
