CARB is synonymous to SCO
CARB "scientists" aren't really considered as scientists by real scientists.
Shoot, even one of the "scientists" from CARB faked his credentials.CARB's also behind MTBE which nationally was mandated by the Federal Clean Air Act of 1990 but was predated by California's own state law, California Clean Air Act of 1988.
And as early as 1986, there was a scientific report that stated that MTBE was a "bad cookie" (finding the exact copy is a tad difficult but it is referred by the USGS in a 1993 report)A major local (to the Bay Area) opponent to CARB is Dr. Bill Wattenburg (an older version of his site is here)
And apparently, CARB wants to require particular" paints (PDF) and barring any scientific/engineering breakthrough, that probably means dark colored cars (black, dark blues, etc.)
And dang, CARB's budget for 2009-2010 is over 600 million, just the imagine how many teachers would have been spared lay-offs...or how many professors, TAs, faculty at UC/CSU schools would have been spared from furloughs.
Not to forget the CARB vs Diesel fiasco

Re:slashdot is not your lawyer
You need to ask a lawyer. His answer will depend, at least in part, on documents you have signed as part of your employment, and on state law.
Personally, I know my company is too confused to ever go after me, my data, and my ideas after I leave, so long as I don't compete directly with them. I don't worry about their supposed ownership of my every thought and dream, despite signing those rights over to them.
1) Ask lawyer.
2) Accept money regardless of advice to pay lawyer bills.
Hmm, unless you phone in to one of those talk shows where lawyers give advice to callers. This guy comes to mind, in the Bay Area but with internet streaming.

KSFO, KGO, and San Francisco RadioThe 2 extreme rightwingers on KSFO (AM 560) are balanced by the 2 extreme leftwingers on KGO (AM 810). The 2 extremists on KGO are Karel and Ray Taliaferro. Listen to their extremist talk shows, which are simulcast on the Web.
At various times, Karel has taken the following political stances. (1) After the American military overthrew Saddam Hussein, thousands of Iraqis staged loud anti-American demonstrations and began to initiate guerrilla warfare against the American soldiers. Karel actually supported the Iraqis. (2) Karel claims that people who oppose illegal immigration are bigots, racists, or Nazis.
You can join Karel's online chatroom to offer your opinions during his on-air program. If you poignantly criticize his stances, then he arranges for the moderators to kick you out of the chatroom.
Meanwhile, Ray Taliaferro has taken the following political stances. (1) Taliaferro claims that Washington is a terrorist government. (2) He insists that the Americans are the primary agent preventing the third world from becoming prosperous. (3) He cheered the death of Ronald Reagan.
If you doubt what I am saying, then I challenge you to prove me wrong. Listen to the talk show hosted by Karel. Join his chatroom, and in it, criticize his extremist positions. Then, see what happens to you.
By the way, I am a liberal. However, there is a difference between a liberal and a leftwing mental case.
Note that I am not saying that KGO is unbalanced. KGO does include a fair representation of the political spectrum. However, Karel and his ilk are leftwing extremists. He hates Dr. Bill Wattenburg (and other moderates) with such a vengeance that he has censored Wattenburg's last name in the chatroom. Go to Karel's chatroom and type "Wattenburg". The software powering the chatroom will automatically replace "Wattenburg" with a sequence of "****".
Note that Wattenburg is another talk-show host at the same station, KGO.

How to handle "humorous fiction news" stories?
such as this one (click any for the "story"):
http://www.cattletoday.com/forum/about8716.html
http://www.kgoam810.com/viewentry.asp?ID=320060&PT =PERSONALITIES

If there are many such stories on wikinews they might get sued by theonion, but seriously, I can imagine a few low-key satiric or urban-legend type stories sneaking by and hanging around for a while.
Oh, if you're going to Canada, you'll need to know this:

Just got on radio show
Hi all. Was lucky enough to get on KGO (810 AM) in San Francisco. The host, Ronn Owens, is a big Tivo fan, so I figured he needed to know about this. I told him that this bill would make commercial skipping illegal. He initially thought I was spreading an urban legend, but he now has his staff investigating this. He tried to get a legislator on the phone, but didn't succeed. He may have one on tomorrow (hopefully not too late). So, in addition to calling my Senators' DC offices, that's my work for today. I was sad that as his show ended he was still thinking that this only applied to the commercial sale of copywritten works (which, admittedly, other parts of this omnibus bill does talk about), but I referred his staff to Subsection 212 of HR 2391 SR, which talks about how "by or at the direction of a member of a private household" a commercial or promotional content is skipped, that person can be held liable for copyright infrigement.
So, why doesn't the EFF have a mention of this bill on their site? Yes, I've paid my dues.

Special Screener
For those of you who can't wait to see it on the 18th just may be in luck! There is a special screener happening the day before in San Francisco (at the Metreon) for $50. I guess it's some form of charity thing, I'm not sure; once I read that you get to see the movie Tuesday night I just kind of zoned out!
Here is the link: Special Preview Screening / Benefit for Amnesty International -
Re:Great....Now only if
They do. The Real client works decently. Check out this link on imaclinux.net for info on how to install it. The information might be a little stale but the links on the page are still good and should get you what you want.
Now click here for a better radio station to listen to, KGO -
Re:Typical Liberal Tactics
KGO. Gene Burns is libertarian, and he doesn't seem to be on much any more. All the other hosts are as liberal as they come, epecially Bernie Ward and Ray Taliaferro.

Re:Thermodynamics?
What the hell makes you think that?!?!
What makes you think not? I have listened to experts on the subject who tell me that electric cars are less efficient than internal combustion cars. Power plants might be more efficient in raw numbers, perhaps (I don't know), but that efficiency is greatly lessened by the fact that you have to transmit that power to where the end user is recharging his car. Sometimes over very great distances. The greater the distance, the more energy is lost along the way. Then you've got the loss of efficiency due to the storage technology, be it the currently used battery technology, or some type of fuel cell technology like that being discussed here. Batteries etc. are not 100% efficient, though people seem to want to believe that. For every watt of energy you pump into a battery when charging, you get back less than what you put into it. Batteries are very inefficient because of that. Also the longer a battery stores a charge, the less energy you get back, but that's digression from the point. You then have to account for the efficiency of the electric motors in pushing the car along. You lose energy there too, though efficiency is sometimes increased by recovering energy through regenerative braking, etc.
The net result of transmission, storage and electric motor inefficiency bring down the total efficiency of electric cars below that of an internal combustion automobile. You don't believe it? Why not read some actual facts? If you can't find it there, you can always call in and talk to Bill Wattenburg. He's a nuclear physicist who specializes in debunking scientific myths, and this particular issue seems to be one of his hot buttons. -
Some Sense From Dr. Bill Wattenburg
The highly intelligent and semi-famous Dr. Bill Wattenburg, former Los Alamos scientist and part-time radio talk show host at KGO-AM San Francisco, had this to say last month.
Basically he is saying deregulation, the sale of existing public plants to private companies, and politically-driven denial of the need for new power plants over the past decade have combined to create the existing situation.
Another interesting thing he has said in the past (no link, sorry) is that if a small fraction of the EPA's money spent on dubious programs were put into insulating people's homes, California could clean its air faster, and lower its energy demands much more dramatically and quickly. But it's just not popular politically.

Electoral fraud seems increasingly likely
As well as dubious voting forms (Sun sen tinel (florida local)), you have to remember that Florida has always been notoriously corrupt when it comes to elections. Xavier Suarez, a Hispanic Independent, managed to get dead people voting for him. In 1990, Bush (senior) appointed him to serve on the board of Legal Services. Also bear in mind that George Bush senior (who was CIA chief before president) was involved in the rigging of various foreign elections (Panama, Nicaraua, Haiti etc). Good practice no doubt. I'm sure it helps that Jeb runs Florida..... You can see how much power the Bush family has by the way it crushed the story about W forcing his girlfriend to have an abortion in the 70s and covering it up (source 1

The Censored Bush Abortion Story - CNN.com
Yeah, Bush had his girlfriend have an abortion. It was covered up. The hypocrite theme resurfaces -- since he is against abortions (in words, not actions; for us, not him). The story of the abortion and its cover up was also covered up by our own national media.
How CNN censored the Crossfire episode:
http://www.kgoam810.com/viewentry.asp?ID=73474&PT= programsummaries
San Francisco Examiner article about the cover up:
http://www.examiner.com/001030/1030sorensen.html
Here's Larry Flint on the topic:
Well, we've been doing an investigation for a little over eight months to the effect that an abortion took place in 1970 in Houston, Texas. He was working for his father's campaign when he was running for the senate against Lloyd Bentsen, and a fellow by the name of Robert Chandler was the campaign manager. He got a girl pregnant during this period of time, and she had an abortion. We've been able to locate the doctor who preformed the procedure at a hospital in Houston. Not only that but we have the affidavits from four of her friends stating that they knew about the affair, the pregnancy and the subsequent abortion. The only thing we could not have which we needed to break the story was the girl to come out, and she would not come out. Whether she was afraid or whether she was paid off, I don't really want to speculate, because I don't know what the actual reason was. But when I started taking this to the mainstream media, I said you don't have to break the story, just ask the question, you know. You asked the cocaine question, so just ask if he's ever facilitated an abortion or paid for an abortion or if he was the father of a child. Just give him the chance to admit or deny it. No one would touch it. -
Bush abortion cover-up
I wonder why I have read nothing in the papers about Larry Flynt's allegation that, during the 70s, George W Bush (who takes a 'pro-life' stance to abortion) arranged for his girlfriend to have an abortion. Is there some sort of news blackout in the US? I'm curious to know if a man was a drunk and cocaine addict, got a 15-year-old girlfriend pregnant when he was a 24-year-old adult, forced her to have an abortion, and refused to tell the truth about any of this... would that person be a good choice for President of the United States? Would that person be someone we might expect to bring honour and dignity to the office? Only curious...
