Re:It may be fraud
To give you an idea of what a "bargain" this is, the M540V is currently being sold by a company called M-Tech for the reduced price of $560

Re:Graphics Cards
For the most part the GPU is integrated (soldered) into the laptop motherboard. However a couple of years ago I wanted a "Gaming" laptop (which I never ended up buying.) I looked at Alienware and some other company and then I found these guys: http://www.m-techlaptops.com/indexofnotebooks.htm Who make some (you'll have to check which models) of their laptops so you can upgrade the video card. I NEVER bought anything from these guys, I just thought it was a cool idea that they acutualy offer that feature. vwgtinut

Dell buys a Clevo / Uniwill laptop distributor!YAY??? Why is this big news? Is Alienware really that well regarded in PC communities? All they do is take components and assemble them, spray paint them and sell them at a premium. Other than the snazzy paint job, where's the value added?

Re:Who buys these?
Ah, but if you get the laptops from where the high-end marker-uppers get them, you can save some money. M-Tech is the direct vendor for Clevo, the company that actually manufactures all of these laptops. The one in this article looks like the D900K. The reviewed laptop costs $4247. The same config from M-tech is $3825. Granted, that's without any kind of software bundle, case, or extras.

Re:Made by Clevo
Yep. I have the Clevo D470K, which is shown here as the "Sting 417 Gaming Laptop". I love the machine to death, with the only downside being the annoyingly loud fans on the bottom.
Although not the cheapest option, if I was going to order mine again I'd order it through Sager. Sager appears to provide great support, driver and BIOS updates, and I frequent their site all the time since my vendor is lame, outsources their support (which isn't particularly good anyhow), and refuses to offer BIOS updates. My hard drive went bad, and they wanted me to ship the entire machine to them to get it replaced. As I was about to go on a trip, I ended up just replacing it myself at my own expense.
So, I don't have a problem with boutique laptops per-se, just make sure you buy from a quality vendor, even if it costs a little more. -
Wait for the AMD X2 dualcore version
Wait for the AMD dualcore version. Less heat, WAY more performance. It's a standard Clevo D900K notebook, also sold by M-Tech, VoodooPC, Alienware, etc.
