Re:AdBlockTo think that the Internet today can continue without ads based on some magical elf business model is simply absurd. Everyone says "Well they'll just have to find a new business model," but no one has any suggestions.
No, we'll just see glorified personal blogs go the way of the dodo. And I, for one, won't miss them.
An example of the new business model: MacDesktops. They run by donations because they provide a good service.
Or affiliate programs, where people get a cut of stuff actually purchased through referrals from their site. Picture our friend Wil Wheaton posting a great review of something he really likes, like his iBook, and getting a cut of the profit whenever someone clicks through and buys it. I buy things from Amazon through AtAT because I really like their site and want to support them.
So the future net won't be like TV, it'll be like PBS; you pay for things you like and support through direct action.

Re:Not the top end
I'd say that the fastest computers will always be fucking huge. If engineers could somehow magically fit the total power of the Earth Simulator into a single 1u chassis, people would still cluster a few hundred of them together. There's no such thing as enough processing power, as people always find a way to utilize it.
Hmmm ... good point. Sometimes I slip into "Apple Mind" and forget that technology has progressed and think that my workstation is a super computer (referance to the G4 'your own personal supercomputer' ad campaign). No matter how much processing power we can cram into a small space, someone will still stick a bunch of them together and run dnetc on it (: -

No no no, isn't this what you meant

No market influence?
My favorite line from the article:
...appears to have no influence on the market...
After the success of the initial iMac, EVERY DAMN THING came in 5 plastic fruity colors that, oddly, matched the origional iMac colors. You could not escape Apple's market influence. Even now their design's are copied. XP looks like OS X if they just ass slacked on it (And has that edgy X in the name), Vaio's have tended to look like PowerBooks, and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Tux gets a Aqua makeover... No, wait, to late. -

Re:Friends, Foes, Alliances
Good answer, and good to see an actual Slashdot 'celebrity' reading the posts below +4 (aka "slumming")!
I guess you're right, who can argue against more flexibility? (And I'm not even talking about the blessed Natalie Portman here... God, I don't even *have* a Mac (yet), but GOD BLESS those artsy Mac dudes with their super-hot desktop pic sites.)

Some real pictures
The G4 and the Cinema display aren't translucent anymore. They just have a couple of clear parts. MacDesktops has some nice high-rez pictures from different angles.
