Although not totally related but I think a game like this illustrate better on possible outcome. They should have fund a game like this: http://www.molleindustria.org/en/oiligarchy

is there info on the actual games?
As a fan of propaganda videogames, this is relevant to my interests.

Re:Gosh, streisand effect much?
Doubt they really care about "Marketing". It was created by a well known sociology researcher, Paolo Pedercini (at least inside sociology and communication academic circles) , whose academic focus is mainly on the effects of propaganda trough mass-media, and the effects of market induced censorship. The app itself was created with a very propagandistic, almost surreal slant towards criticizing the mobile phone industry. Most of his previous applications were created with the objective to verify the limits of freedom of speech, and to analyze the eventual outcomes from the interested parties. If he's following the same approach, probably he is more interested in objectively observing the reaction from Apple than its actual deployment inside the App Store. Yep, It looks like he's trolling but if you read his CV, you'll see he's quite serious about this kind of research. This is not that different from a medical trial, as inserting a foreign organism to see the reaction from a body.

Re:Android phone made of hemp by ...
A publicity stunt? I guess so, although the developers are independently funded, all their games are free, and they've been around for a while. They essentially produce donationware, so it's not of financial benefit to the developers. Their site is here: http://www.molleindustria.org/en/home. I recognized Every day the same dream, McDonalds Videogame, and Oiligarchy.
A friend pointed out to me MIT Press published a book that discusses most of the games in a political context: Newsgames: Journalism at Play by Ian Bogost et al, 2010. -
Censorship is a bipartisan failing
The professional liars then go on to cherry pick the example of "McDonald's: The Game", made by these guys as a representative example of the sort of games kids play.
And the Gore's didn't cherry pick their examples of the music kids listen too when they started the PMRC and scheduled senate hearings?
The point you are missing is that censorship of movies, music and video games is something that both some on the left and some on the right are engaging in. It is a bipartisan failing. One the plus side, there are also some on the left and some on the right who think music, movies and video games are being used as simplistic scapegoats. -
Re:Al Gore wanted to restrict access to games
Here's Fox "News", just last week, talking about how educational games such as Sim City are produced by a left wing conspiracy with the goal of frightening young children into protecting the environment: link.
Funny, because when I played Sim City I made it my #1 goal to cause a nuclear meltdown without using the disaster menu.
The professional liars then go on to cherry pick the example of "McDonald's: The Game", made by these guys as a representative example of the sort of games kids play.
Of course, a more popular game would be Modern Warfare. I haven't played one of those titles in MW2, but I distinctly recall a scene in which torture is used to get important intel from a bad guy, after abducting said bad guy from the streets of a sovereign nation (Brazil, I think). Which message would you rather expose your children to: "Torture is okay as long as the government says so!" or "Cities that bulldoze all their greenspace and get all their electricity from unregulated coal power plants end up with smog."?
Actually, if you watch Fox News, I'm guessing I won't like the answer....

Muslim Massacre
As a 'Guardian'- and 'New Yorker'-reading leftie hipster emopants, I knew that by playing this game I was participating in what some people would call a hate crime - but as far as design and playability are concerned it is no different to Commando, Cannon Fodder, and ethically it is no different to running around in the backyard as a 10-year-old pretending to kill 'Germans', 'Russians', 'VC' and so on. That this game got buried so quick and dismissed as dull etc missed the point. Games like this are a legitimate reaction to the 24/7 media saturation of the 'threat of terrorism'.
If anything there should be an iconoclast construction kit game - pick the faith (or cult) you wish to offend, uppload a few sprites, bob's your media outrage. Faith Fighter comes hilariously close - seeing God slip in the occasional headbutt and Mohammad (PBUH
;) point at the sky and shout 'Allah ahuackbar!" is hilarious. See if you can unlock the end boss ... you'll never guess who it is.
