webtv
Isn't this exactly what webtv or msnt or whatever it is now called was made for? http://www.msntv.com/pc/

KISS
Keep it simple as possible. If all she wants to do is the internet, set her up with something like MSN TV or maybe even a Wii once the browser comes out and if it supports SSL. Also, some cable companies offer web browsing through their digital cable box, and I'm sure that there's some linux distro out there that runs in a very small storage footprint (256MB or less) that can be run in a set top box configuration.
Bottom line, if she just wants to surf the internet, get her something that just surfs. -
MSN TV internet appliance
The closest thing I can think of is a MSN TV device. Apparently, they still make them(!).

fools
If someone told you that the PSP is a portable gaming device, shoot these people. The PSP is not a portable gaming device, it is really a convergent portable entertainment device.
Right, because the history of convergent entertainment devices is long and illustrious. They would be fools to not want some of this action.
And going with a brand new disk standard that nobody has and nobody sells as a medium for selling movies? It's a brilliant maneuver from some of the industry's best minds.
I should say that the Sony reps I've worked with about other things have been completely with it and didn't lose sight of reality. So what happened to this guy?

Re:Microsoft will never like thin clientsNonsense.
1. WebTV/msntv
2. Thin clients fall directly into the MS mindset. Everything runs off the server, and you subscribe to a 'service', perpetually. No 'piracy' allowed, and they have ultimate control over your desktop, and your wallet. Stop paying, your PC doesn't work anymore.Microsoft (and Oracle and Sun and all the others) will 'like' whatever model brings the most profit. If they can make thin clients work in the mond of the user, they will.

Re:Here's a handful of good CSS resources
You wouldn't happen to know of a decent Mac-browser emulator would you?
One project that I worked on had us testing against WebTV, for which this tool came in handy. -
Re:Why do I have this vision ..
Had? WebTV still exists as MSN TV

Re:Finally
Microsoft bought it and renamed it MSN TV.

TrustE is owned by Microsoft
"and that Microsoft be audited by a third-party to assure compliance - perhaps it will be TrustE, since Passport's privacy policy remains approved by TrustE."
I remember this big stink a few years ago about Microsoft having the majority stake when TrustE was founded.
Heck just look at the Privacy Statment at WebTV/MSNTV.
