OneDrive *doesn't* properly support HEIF
OneDrive doesn't properly support HEIF, or at least didn't as of September last year. https://mspoweruser.com/micros...
Microsoft has reached out to us, clarifying that OneDrive on iOS will automatically convert HEIC files to JPEG when you back them up on your iPhone, so you will still be able to view them as regular image files in your Windows 10 device and iPhone.

These things cost $799! LOL
Lenovo's $799 Miix 630, unveiled at the show, is a Snapdragon 835 machine with a 12.3-inch display. Like other Qualcomm-based Windows 10 PCs, it will ship by default with the Windows 10 S operating system, but will be upgradable to Windows 10 Pro for free within 180 days of product activation, Neowin says. (Originally the updated cut-off date for upgrading for free from 10 S to Pro was March 2018.)

Meanwhile you can get a decent machine with an i5 or i7 for $799.

My prediction - the official benchmarks will come out and they'll be terrible. These machines won't sell well, at least not at $799.

Re:Paid off
> I suspect someone got paid off big time.
The visible part is that Microsoft moved their headquarters to Munich. The somewhat less visible part is that Munich's new mayor, Dieter Reiter is an explicit Microsoft fan.
And there's another thing, an anti-pattern we free software enthusiasts *have* to learn to recognize and avoid: most of the IT problems in Munich were structural and not related to whatever the underlying operating system was. Those were exacerbated by transition stress. That's the result of an Accenture study on that very subect.
The invisible parts? Is corruption like an iceberg, where 8/9 are down there, invisible?
Probably yes.

Re:I bet they're disappointed
Nope. Microsoft began to build a new HQ in Munich in 2013 and it was completed in 2016. The old HQ was in Unterschleißheim, which is a small town near to Munich, under a different city council.

Re:Windows 10 x86 (desktop version ) Runs on this
The headline mentions Windows 10, but the posts here seem to look toward Windows 10 Mobile (the phone version). What seems to be missed is that this SoC has x86 emulation baked in. According to this this article (linked from the story), this new ARM chip is capable of running regular, desktop Windows 10 applications.
Good points. Running Photoshop shows it is at least decent emulation. The article at the end mentioned this might mean Win Phones can run regular Win10 programs, the question is why? Photoshop on a phone? Word or Excel? I would think this is initially aimed at the tablet market. Given the persistent rumors that Apple is also working on OS X/ARM compatibility it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Re:Pushback
Many businesses do. We'll be going from 7 Pro to 10 E just because of the loss of control. This type of meddling is just the beginning. If we wanted our users to download Candy Crush on their work laptops, we would have stuck it out on the file server. How soon before malware slips into the "store"? It's already happened with Apple and Android.

Re:LTE eats battery, texting over wifi is better
Actually, MS is pulling support for Skype from 85% of Windows phone users.

A quick breakdown
6 million Surface tablets, ~20 million XBox Ones, ~20 million Windows Phones (I thought that would be more like 20 total). That means a majority is desktop/laptop sales and "free upgrades".
The strange part is the 200 million in 6 months. I'm not entirely sure how that was done, nor do i have the time to really dig into it. Maybe ATM's and POS registers have been upgraded? -
Re:happened to me today
The EULA prohibits users of Windows 10 from suing Microsoft.
That didn't seem to stop this lady from winning $10K or prevent two more suits from being filed last week. Also, the New York State Attorney General's office is soliciting reports from consumers who were damaged by Windows 10 installs.

Microsoft is working to improve theirs
Good to see this major issue being addressed by research. FWIW Microsoft is improving its emoji support and image design to be less confusing. Details here http://mspoweruser.com/windows...
